629808 tn?1222245070 Does anybody know of a medication that treats both major (grand mal) and absence seizures? My major seizures are controlled with carbamazepine (Carbatrol), but it does nothing for my absence seizures. Lately I have at least 5 per week. They are really starting to disrupt my life. Any suggestions?
Avatar n tn Hello! I don't know if this will reach you, but I'm desperate for help. I was put on Lamictal 3 weeks ago for tonic clinic seizures (starting at 50mg every three days, I'm now at 50mg every other day and so on). I'm having anxiety, tons of auras l, and loss of appetite. They took my levels today and we will see what comes of that soon. Does this ever subside? Will it get better? I'm so miserable right now.
1303966 tn?1296740010 The drawback is that, like many seizure meds, lamictal is very expensive (one month of 90 200mg tablets of lamictal costs ~$530/month; for lamictal XR, the cost is about $1,900) . Luckily I get help paying (only pay a few dollars, actually), but it is rediculous to have such necessary meds cost this much. Sometimes your doc can also give you a large bunch of samples....I managed to get about 6 months worth of samples, before I got help paying for the XR.
Avatar f tn Then when me and my husband found out i was pregnant, i was switched to Lamotrigine which is the safest for pregnant women with seizures. I know its really hard for us women with seizures now that we are carrying a life inside, we need to be extra careful. I understand you...I sometimes feel like going to have an attsck but doubt it since I am taking meds, sometines I would think maybe my medication is not controlling it good. Or maybe these are just adverse reactions to the drug...
Avatar m tn I have not had any trouble taking Lamotrigine 250mg BID for atypical seizures. Methylphenidate 20mg BID commonly called Ritalin, prescribed for concentration issues. I have taken these for well over 2 years now with no indication of petite mal or grand mal seizures, or seizures of any kind. My ability to concentrate has increased dramatically. I asked my neurologist about sleep and he told me to take the Lamotrigine 250x2 1 time/day.
2133558 tn?1368828158 You may dosage needs to be changed or you may need more than one medication to treat the seizures. Please consult your doctor for further management. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn Does prednisone effect dilantin and lamictal levels? I've been on dilantin and lamictal for over 5 years for seizures. I'm being tested for autoimmune hepatitis, I just had a liver biopsy. I don't want to take a chance on having a seizure.
Avatar f tn I don't hear very many good reports about keppra with regard to it's side effects. I do hear many complaints about mood swings, aggression, cognition and memory problems, etc.. However, I have read a few comments saying it can actually HELP with mood swings and bipolar disorder (which she doesn't have). Please comment on this. My daughter has just begun this medication for seizure disorder. She has had seizures several years apart from each other.
Avatar m tn t mention the age of your son or the dosage of Lamictal. Lamictal is a pretty good drug but without the other information, it is difficult to make any suggestions.
284002 tn?1244547555 I am currently in therapy as I believe my depression is part biological and cognitive. I was at a dosage of 300mg for a week and felt VERY anxious now the doctor wants me to take 150 one day and 300 the next and see what happens. My therapist suggested I try to add an SSRI like Zoloft in the mix... I'll check my Dr.
Avatar n tn Need input on coming off depakote. Currently taking 750 mg x 3 daily. I USED to have seizures due to a stroke, but I have been seizure free for a year. I am on 30 mg of abilify & 200 mg of lamictal. I want to come off the depakote due to weight gain & memory loss/confusion. My Neurologist has given her approval, but I do not want a manic episode at all. Can you help?
452529 tn?1361847855 My son has been treated fro Epilepsy for 2 years. None of the meds have worked He too, is on Lamictal and (Keppra 1500mg three times a day) and he is a different person. We have just discovered that he may not have Epilepsy, but an autonomic nervous system disorder called Neurocardiogenc syncope. I would like to hear details of your seizures activity....when do they occur, and what are you doing at the onset or shortly before.....
Avatar n tn I need help understanding all of this. For those who have had seizures, you understand how terrifying it is to have one and to figure out why????? Why did the Lamictal not work??? Thanks and I look forward to your response.
Avatar f tn I also want to add that I'm very glad that lamictal helps you. I felt lamictal helped me for years when I was really bad off. I have been off of it for two months now and have had no problems. Did you know that studies have found that bipolar disorder can actually lessen/disappear after the age of 25? I'm 29 now, and not even sure that I have it anymore. It certainly hasn't seemed like it for 3-4 years now.
Avatar f tn I'm 19 and have been epileptic for 6 years, I have tried a variety of medications including keppra (giving me suicidal tendencies) and a couple of others which didn't control seizures. I have always been on Lamictal, which is slowly being increased after any fits or 'episodes' until the right dose for me is reached, in conjunction with this I also take Ethisuxomide, a drug that has worked well in controlling my absences.
Avatar f tn So I decided to ask different psyctrist for opinion, he said SSRI class is not working for me so he told to try different class because it work well for anxiety. He gave Lamictal, and told me that we r going to increase the dose slowly to avoid rash. Yesterday was my 1st dose of Lamictal and ended up in ER because I had allergic reaction and blister rash in mouth. ER told me to stop the med.
Avatar f tn i have decided to stop getting lamictal ( currently on a 200 dosage). I am afraid of withdrawal symptoms but i want to get off it. I was thinking i probably need to follow some sort of plan regarding how often or how much of it i should be getting as a dosage daily. I know i cannot do it over one day. Is there anyone that had stopped taking lamictal after a couple of years and did not suffer any physical symptom? If so how did you go about it? thanks, love, lotuspond.
479255 tn?1208116148 I have Partial Compex Seizures also. I had my first grand mal seizure when I was 11. I now just have the Partial and I'm 33 yrs old. I have been put on Keppra 2 times and it has not worked for me either time. I am now on Lamictal, Trileptal and Lryica. These 3 seem to be the best ones that have been working for me so far. I have gone thru 4 1/2 weeks without having a seizure. The longest I have gone. I have 2-3 a month, usually.
Avatar n tn drug of benzo family can be used to control seizures, especially Klonopin. and Klonopin can be used for any type of epilepsia, and it is safe to take Klonopin when you have to stop taking some antiepilepisa drugs for some reason. but I don't recommend you eat more than 3 types of antiepilepsia drug, because the interaction between these drug reduce their effects.
1540869 tn?1351214013 8 years for seizures. The seizures were a result from Chemo after breast cancer. The lamactil at first helped the seizures. but I had balance issues. I got to the point of using a cane.(broke a shoulder) The Lamactil was increased because I had an increase in seizures . I Had more siezures so again it was increased, I could not think, concentrate or remember things. I insisted the Dr. take me off of it. He would only do it in the hospital .
1116472 tn?1260075052 I have been prescribed Lamictal (taking the generic Lamotrigine) for about 3 years now for my bipolar disorder alone. I started with 25 or 50 mg to see if I'd be allegoric and develop the rash that rarely happens but can be severe. My body didn't reacted poorly to it (my mother also took it before me and was ok as well) and I was moved to 100 mg then 150 mg and now have been on 200 mg for a year and a half.
Avatar n tn I really am not completly sure if they affect each other or not. But my dad has been having seizures for about a year, he is taking Lyrica but it still isn't stopping the seizures. Anyway, a couple weeks ago he had one beer while on vacation. Later that day he ended up having four grand mal seizures, the most he's had in one day. I don't know if it would bother you or not but I thought you might like to hear his story.
Avatar f tn m told can cause anxiety) and Lamictal (mood stabilizer for Bipolar). Buspar works great for me and is the kind of med that you can feel accumulate in your system. That way, you don't suffer if missing a dose. I take 10mg 3 times a day. It used to just be 2x, but my job got stressful and we made an adjustment. I was originally given Xanax which was a huge mistake on my GP's part.
Avatar m tn Do you mean that is your starting dosage? You have to ramp up Lamictal dosage slow. I am at 200Mgs of Lamictal a day and it took me 2 months to reach that effective dosage.
787406 tn?1339203183 What medications are you presently taking for these seizures? Such medications may help resolve symptoms as well. A seizure is said to result from abnormal electrical activity in the brain. There are different kinds of seizures and it is important to identify the underlying cause whether low blood sugar or sodium levels in the blood. neurological conditions, infections, and even certain medications. Do keep us posted with the result of the neuropsych test.
Avatar f tn Hi people who have seizures can seem like they have add, this is because when you have a seizure's, you can have a hard time learning and hearing what is being said to you while you are having a seizure and lose time. There for a lot of children I think, that are not add but maybe having other things going on, and missed because the doctors just think of add and not look at everything that is going on with young children these day's.
Avatar n tn i been on lamictal many years and its great for me. maybe its that the seizures themselves are getting worse and u need to increase the med.
