Lamictal dosage reduction

Common Questions and Answers about Lamictal dosage reduction

lamictal

Avatar f tn I also want to add that I'm very glad that lamictal helps you. I felt lamictal helped me for years when I was really bad off. I have been off of it for two months now and have had no problems. Did you know that studies have found that bipolar disorder can actually lessen/disappear after the age of 25? I'm 29 now, and not even sure that I have it anymore. It certainly hasn't seemed like it for 3-4 years now.
Avatar m tn Do you mean that is your starting dosage? You have to ramp up Lamictal dosage slow. I am at 200Mgs of Lamictal a day and it took me 2 months to reach that effective dosage.
524020 tn?1223161005 There is only one catch with Lamictal. It takes a long time to build up to the effective 100Mg dosage. With Lamictal you have to start very low over several weeks before you can start 100Mgs a day (the effective dosage) Even after you reach 100Mgs a day then it will be another few weeks at that dosage before you notice a difference. Took me a total of 7 weeks before I noticed marked improvement from the Lamictal, but when it starts working you will feel better if anxiety is a problem for you.
Avatar f tn If they have to reduce your dosage for some reason during tx does it reduce your chances for success?
Avatar f tn The Lamictal does make me somewhat tired but I take it with other meds that do knock me out. Lamictal is a mood stabilizer and not a antiphycotic like Seroquel. You may want to do some research on Lamictal and Abilify. Sorry I can't help you anymore than I have, perhaps someone else on this site can give you a better answer.
Avatar m tn I take 200mg of Lamictal. Like 007Bunny, I had to have my dosage increased, in order to control both depression and hypomania, after being taken off Zoloft. I did have a small rash, which I didn't mention to my doctor. I should have, due to the risk of Stevens-Johnson syndrome associated with Lamictal. It went away after a month or two, and never reappeared after that. I was up to 450 of Wellbutrin a day, but have now been lowered to 300mg. I am unsure how much my Zoloft dosage is.
501086 tn?1210123831 I was having some memory issues, but that has also improved with the increased dosage. GREAT NEWS!! Lamictal now has a generic. I was paying $150/month WITH insurance and now have been buying it through a VERY large retailer for $10 for a 3 months supply.
645390 tn?1338555377 I have been on it about 4 weeks or so, and I am still titrating up to the full dosage, which should be in the next 2 weeks. (I am taking it to see if it will prevent my head/scalp/face/ear neuralgia's.) I am just wondering if you have to wait until you are on the full dosage to see if there is any improvement?
1856494 tn?1340542614 Hi libzo, I am sorry to hear you are not feeling well. You are almost finished with incivek? About a week after incivek I started slowly feeling better. My mg never got lower than 10 though. But hopefully finishing incivek will help too. I think you are on incivek. If so and you you haven't seen this info, you may wish to read through. I book marked it when someone on this forum shared with me when The doc thought I may need procrit.
Avatar m tn Around a week ago, I decided to lower my dosage to 150mg. of Lamictal. This is what my psychiatrist had suggested 8 months ago might be capping my happiness. She left town and I had an appointment made with a new guy at a new place this week. About 10 days ago, noticed before the appt my script would run out. So, I had about 2-3 days where I would not be able to take any Lamictal at all. I decided to break down my 200mg pills into about 190mg,180mg... and then about 6-7 150mg. pills.
Avatar f tn When I was put on Lamictal, my pdoc warned me that the med's slight anti-depressant effect could potentially set off mania, and that I should keep some of my Lithium on hand just in case this were to happen. But you should definitely speak with your prescribing doctor! Good luck!
Avatar f tn Everyone has to increase the dosage of lamictal (lamotrigine) slowly starting at 25mg. I have been on as high as 400mg but had to drop back down to 200mg because it is an antiseizure med and I am having ECT and 400mg would interfere with that. I have been on it for years and didn't see any difference in weight with it. Other drugs I am taking are not so weight friendly. I am now exercising and trying to diet but little success. How did you lose your weight?
Avatar m tn Depakote 1500mg was no good for me -- at first it seemed to help but then after a few weeks I gained 25 lbs, lost some of my hair, and had recurrence of rapid cycling with major depressive episodes. Doc took me off that and now I'm on Lamictal, still trying to get the right dosage of that, doc wants me to gradually increase to 200mg/day but I feel better on just 100mg and am going to discuss with him.
Avatar m tn It has been 11 years since I was first diagnosed with a bipolar spectrum disorder: first, cyclothymia, soon after bipolar 2, and, recently (after thorough re-examination of my long-term history) bipolar 1. My medication regimen has evolved to the point now where I'm maintaining on Lamictal and Celexa, with later additions of bupropion and most recently Strattera for symptoms of ADHD that persisted.
Avatar m tn Tapering off just means to reduce slowly. The only lower dose of Lamictal is 25mg. When you started Lamictal I am sure you were on 25mg for one or two weeks and then moved to 50mg for one or two weeks and would have increased again... Tapering is opposite of the increase procedure.
1303966 tn?1296740010 Sorry to hear about everything! I know how you feel...have been on a number of different anti-seizure meds for 14 years now, and totally understand how you feel. If it helps, things usually improve somewhat after you've been on the meds for 5 or 6 months....kind of get used to the dosage, although it isn't easy to deal with all the side effects.
Avatar m tn I am currently on Lamictal and Prozac and doing okay...not great but okay. I believe the Lamictal is a maintainence drug for mood swings and it contains a antidpressant. My bipolar leans more to depression than mania and I have to be on a antidpressant. When beginning a new antidepressant I tend to get mania for a short time but seem to adjust after the first week or two. Hey, if you are feeling good...why mess with something that's not broken! Best of luck.
Avatar f tn I was put on 200mg Lamictal 2 months ago, and my doc is upping my dose to 400mg. I have been extremely depressed the last few of weeks and can't get out of it, which is the reason she upped it, since it is supposed to help w/ depression also. What is the max therapeutic dose that anyone knows of? Has anyone ever taken that high of a dose and what were the effects? I'm also on Topamax for migraines. Those are the ONLY medications I am taking. The Lamictal does seem to be working though.
1114269 tn?1258680912 I was diagnosed as bipolar type 2 back in June 2005, and since then have been on Lamotrigine (Lamictal) on an increasing dosage. I have been at the max dosage that my doctor said is allowed (350 mg/day). So that means over 4 years that I've been taking this drug. I have found that since taking lamictal, my depression has all but vanished, but it does not control my manic behavior at all. So as an anti-depressant, I think it's very effective for me.
1994124 tn?1422574099 Im on 250mg depakote extended release and 200mg lamictal now , once a day. Im on transition to lamictal as per advice by my neurologist. I also take 4mg of folic acid to safeguard my pregnancy.
Avatar f tn Hey! I take Lamictal and it works wonderfully on me. I didn't start at as high a dosage as you did - I started with the Lamictal starter pack 25 mg, then 50 mg, then 100, and stabilized on that (it took a month) then went to 200mg, where I really felt stable at 200mg. All together, it took me about 2 months, but began to feel the effects of being stable at about 3 weeks. It affects everyone differently, and with you jumping right into 100mg, I can't say for sure.
Avatar f tn Like most medicines, I had to up the dosage (eventually) and capped it around the typical bipolar dosage of 200mg. I think I started on like 25mg or 50mg. All in all, I recommend bringing up Buspar. I had never heard of it until I told my p-doc I wanted something for anxiety that wasn't going to be a problem as a 'drug abuse' type deal. She told me Buspar (buspirone) was the only medication that was produced specifically to treat anxiety.
1674921 tn?1304177675 s complicated because an NSAID like ibuprofen might be appropriate for one patient while acetaminophen might be better for another, depending on things like your risk of internal bleeding, the ability of your liver and kidneys to process different meds, and your needs in regard pain reduction.
