I was taking Bupropion and Lamictal, and switched to Effexor. I have been on Effxor for three weeks. I have had the worst fatigue I have ever felt. So now I am unsure if it was coming off the Lamictal or if it was the Effexor. I am going to stop the Effexor, but I don't know if I should go back on just the Lamictal, The lamictal When I first started taking it, up to 200 mg worked fairly well.
I guess my question is, is , has this kind of fatigue been know to be a side effect with Effexor?
Two days ago I forgot to take my effexor XR 150 mg. and lamictal in the morning. That same day at approx. 4pm, I was just cleaning and feeling fine. All of a sudden I got real dizzy and started vomiting, I started to sweat, fast heart beat, tingling in hands, legs and around the mouth, shaking and was very weak. My mom called the paramedics and they took me to E.R. and they gave me medication to stop vomiting. I have been on and off effexor for 20 yrs.
Hello All, I'm currently going through a mental breakdown. I suffered the same symptoms ( no sleep, can't eat, nausea, crying) to make things worse I went to the hospital like I did before because it's scary having 24/7 panic attacks. They didn't let me stay due to insurance reasons...I ran out of klonopin and am wondering if that is what is causing this. I'm also on effexor xr which I think is making my anxiety and panic worse it's been three weeks with the effexor.
I am in my mid 40's I have been on Effexor XR at 225/mg and Lamictal 300/mg a day for several years to treat bi-polar. I have been having problems with cognition, memory and concentration for many years and it seems to be getting worse. I have problems finding the right words, for example, I'll name 4 or 5 males names in my family before I say the right one, or i'll say glass instead of window.
Hi everybody: I take Effexor XR, and have recently been told to take Lamictal to help the other drug along a bit and to stabilize my mood because of the PTSD. I was also told to watch for Stephens-Johnson's syndrome. Is this rare? It kind of scared me and I haven't started the med yet. I'm allergic to alot of meds, is this an allergy? Is anyone on this, and does it seem to help?
I am taking 300 mg of Effexor XR day and have been for about 4 years. My problem is after a period of time I seem to build up a tolerance for the medication. This is now happening with the Effexor XR. Has anyone had any luck combining this med with other ones to help me with the depression with is quickly worsening again. My psych. is also trying to work out something but it is getting to the point where I am just ready to quit trying because nothing seems to be helping. Any suggestions?
Paxil began losing effectiveness and after seven years, doctors tried new medications like Lexapro which was less helpful. Finally I began Effexor, then Effexor XR, then increasing the dose last year. Though depression bleeds through occassionally, (feels more like the blues than a dark suicidal hole), I think I'm doing very well on Effexor XR 150 mg. But I can not help but wonder .... Will I eventually need 225mg? What will it take after that?
Psych: Effexor XR, Topamax, Lexapro, Seroquel, Trazadone, Xanax (prn)

Im 47, born in 1963, weigh about 140lb,female, on Effexor xr, and alergic to sulfa. I left the part about drug alergies blank when i filled out my profile though. But anyhow no wonder you are still sch a worry wart, that dose is to low. I was on 75mg for years and finally uped it to 150 and became much more confident, allot less worried . You really need to up that dose. I didnt realize the xr came in 37.5. But keep me posted on what you decide.
yes bev i have been on effexor xr since 2001 and i gained a tremendous amount of weight and then my thyroid bit the dust so now i'm on meds for that. i'm hoping that will help me lose weight. it's really hard. but this profuse sweating is just awful. i'm in texas and it's already been 100 many days. i am just wondering if there is something herbal or ANYTHING that would decrease the sweating. i drink tons of water a day.
Ahh Pristiq, The new SSNRI. Actualy just a slight tweek on Effexor XR.
Interesting fact about Pristiq..... Wyeth's newest Antidepressant medication Pristiq, is actually kind of a sister drug of Effexor XR. In fact in terms of the active ingrediants molecular structure they are about 98% the same.
You know why the Drug Company Wyeth would produce a drug so much like Effexor XR?
I am taking effexor XR, 75 mg, once daily. Other than that, I take a multi-vitamin, extra vit-c, citri-cal calcium, vit-b, omegas, glucosamine and condritin, and an herbal remedy for ovairian cysts called DonQui. I sometimes also take white willow bark for pain, either in capsul form or as a hot tea beverage.
Hmmmm, I wouldn't think that medication was the culprit since you haven't changed anything but honestly it's a good question for your doc.
I'm wondering if stress/anxiety may be contributing since you've recently stopped Clonopin. I know you said it's been a couple of months since it's stopped... but you were on it for 10 years. I don't know, just my best guess.
In 2012 I had a myriad of neurological symptoms that scared the hell out of me.
I was recently prescribed Lamictal for depression/anxiety related symptoms. My psychiatrist thought it was worth a try because it doesn't have some of the side effects like the Effexor XR I've been taking for 5 years. Effexor works for my anxiety/depression, but I don't like the sexual side effects. Lamictal, though, seems to only be approved for treating bipolar disorder and epilepsy. I have never been diagnosed with bipolar disorder nor do I have epilepsy.
I was a great student, participated in activities, and had a decent amount of friends, but suffered anxiety and depression without being aware of what it was. Eventually I was diagnosed, put on Effexor XR and Klonipin. For almost ten years I did extremely well. In college, I was diagnosed with ADD and put on Adderall.
My junior year of college, both my grandmother and cousin passed away within two weeks of each other. I became extremely depressed again and had to readjust my medicines.
Hello Doctor, I am a 30 y/o male. I live in Hong Kong and back in July I took a trip to the USA to visit my family. I had been taking a combination of Effexor XR 37.5 & Lamictal 25mg with good results (about a year) for what I thought was treatment resistant depression and anxiety. The problem started the day after I returned to China. Had a busy 1st day, we did not have any food at home, so my GF wanted to go to the local supermarket to buy some snacks.
I called the pdoc back and he's having me take a 75 effexor xr and my pristiq 50---I guess a ween off of it, no more brain zaps for now, I dont know what will happen after I stop taking effexor all together, we shall see in a few weeks.
As for the comment above, I too have seen people have to pay out of pocket for perscriptions and its usually elderly and people like me, who had been laid off and take medications and are put into a situation of having to pay out of pocket, what to do?
The doctor increased my Effexor XR from 150 mg per day to 300 mg. and then added Celexa to it. I am feeling better. I had a bad Bipolar episode in Sept.-Oct. and was depressed, seriously depressed until we found a good cocktail mix in February. I have finally pulled myself out of the dark pit of depression. He, the p-doc, was changing my meds every 2 wks. until we got lucky with this mixture.
I have heard alot of people have had success with Lamictal; did it not help you?
