Avatar f tn She is on a ketogenic diet to help with the Lyme, so she gets low carbs, no sugar or processed foods, no dyed foods, no grains. I have called her pediatrician and scheduled an appointment to evaluate her, but thought I would ask here as well, because it'll be two weeks before they can see her. Thoughts, insights? Anything specific ringing a belly that I should look deeper into? Is there a connection to children's emotions and lyme, or is this two separate issues?

Avatar n tn Given your current situation and your extremely high blood sugars, if you want to reduce then using diet, then a very low carb diet / ketogenic diet would be the way to go. This diet however, may still not be enough to get your sugars down and you may still need insulin / other meds. Please know that if you eat a ketogenic diet you need to follow it strictly.

Avatar f tn I was excercisin religiously and watching my carb intake.i was eating between 100 to 150gms of carbs. I was not on a ketogenic diet. After that visit i have been extremely ill. Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea. blood sugar dropping rapidly when after exercise. My doctor said it could be the phentermine but that the metformin xr could also be reacting to the phentermine. I stoped the metformin, felt better then my sugar started going up.

Avatar n tn Hi, low carb / ketogenic diet. I don't eat any grains, fruit, starchy vegetables, or anything with added sugars. I eat salad and green vetables, nuts (in moderation), meats, eggs, cheese, butter, cream. Look up Bernstein diabetes university on utube. lots of great information.

Avatar n tn I personally eat a Ketogenic diet of 20g or less net carbs a day. Most of my diet comes from meat, cheese and non-starchy vegetables. The high levels of fat in my diet help keep me satiated and promotes weight loss. I also tend to avoid artificial sweeteners as much as possible. I eat gluten free and grain free.

She went on a diet very close to Ketogenic strictly for 6 months and then added back some fruit but remained off all sugar, white flour products etc. Just with this diet her tremors went to a minimum and have remained that way. Something to look into......

However, if you do not test and monitoring you will not know if it is enough, or whether you need to intensify your efforts, cut carbs further, or need meds. Losing weight will also help with diabetes. Sounds like you lost weight from cutting carbs a bit and exercise. This is then good weight loss. Please get yourself checked. Out of control diabetes can lead to lots of complications that are really unpleasant.

You eat less than 20g of carbs a day, moderate amount of protein 50-100g/day (60-75 is ideal for most people), and 100-150g fat/day. It is a high fat diet that switches your body from using carbs for energy to using fat for energy.
