Common Questions and Answers about Kaletra and combivir

kaletra

Avatar f tn m currently taking Kaletra and Combivir.
Avatar f tn Is combivir an appropriate HIV nPEP regimen for one time unprotected encounter with CSW of unknown status in Kenya? I'm a 24 yr male from UK. Insertive vaginal and oral. Asked about Kaletra and doc said it's low risk doesn't recommend, but I am still very worried. Started within 12 hours, but still within 72 if kaletra should be added. I feel terrible of course but appreciate any advice.
Avatar n tn Over the next week roughly August 21st through August 30th my Headaches and sore throats became ALOT worse. Around August 30th I was taken off the PEPs(kaletra and combivir)after being on them for 42 days and almost within a day or two my headaches and sore throat reduced (but didnt go away). Right before I came off the medication I began to have a very very slight pain in my chest and armpits. If i took a deep deep breath I could feel a small bit of strain on my chest.
Avatar n tn Four months ago i had a condom break on me on a girl with her period that had unknown status and dr put me on Combivir with Kaletra, and i stopped after 10 days when the girl showed me her test result. I did a test 1 month ago and i was negative, and now i am in the same spot. I already started on the Combivir every 12 hours and the kaletra every 12 hours i have left... Please Dr, what are my chances of risk??? I do not want to take PEPs if not necesary..
Avatar n tn I went 30 hrs after my exposure to the hospital and they gave me PEP (1 combivir and 2 kaletra twice per day) coming back to my country after 3 days i forgot the pills that i bought in switzerland and the doctor here suggested i take 1 atripla pill instead every night !!! do you think this is feasible ( what is your assessment to the situation?!
Avatar m tn Again i have started PeP after 28 hours . This time using both Combivir and Kaletra. After the first dose i experienced rather severe diareha and some mild acid taste and abdomen pain. So i have a lot of questions regarding the oportunity of PeP in both cases. I am a bit worried about the short term side effects and long term side effects. Should i continue PeP with both drugs? Will they damage my liver etc . Looot of questions :) Thank you in advance and excuse my poor english. P.S.
Avatar m tn if I have a PCR RNA viral load test done 1 week after exposure, what can I expect from the reliability of the results? If I get a negative is it actually the cases that I very likely did not contract the virus or might the retrovirals just suppress the viral load to an undetectable level?
Avatar m tn Please help me! Here I have few concern of my own experience. I was put on PEP (Kaletra & Combivir) 68 hours later after protected vaginal sex and unprotected oral sex (the CSW gave me bj). I got rash on day 8 of my PEP accompany with mouth ulcer and white tongue. My test on week 6 is negative. And on week 9 I got another negative test called Combo Test. Unfortunately, the same kind of rash appear again on week 11 with same mouth ulcer and white tongue.

Avatar n tn rash on the foot, shortness of breath, sore throat, sore arm pits, malasie, bad headaches, fatigue, constipation, and diarrhea after 42 days i was taken off the PEPs (kaletra and combivir) and almost immediatly the sore throat was reduced and the headaches have gotten slightly better. however my arm pits are still sore. i tested negative at 7 days and 30 days.
Avatar m tn On Friday morning I came to my senses and took 2 Kaletra and 1 Truvada and set a plan so I wouldn’t mess it up and that’s the regiment I will stick too. I will take the 3 pills every morning with food at 8am then the 2 pills every evening at 6pm for the 1 month period.
Avatar m tn   Also there was some inconsistency in terms of which medicines I was taking. Day 1-4 combivir with kaletra, day 5-6 only combivir and day 7-10 combivir with tenofovir. So far I've been taking pep for 10 days so far and the side effects are really bad especially nausea. It's been really rough time and I feel like I can't handle the medicine anymore..feel really sick from it.
Avatar n tn Hi Teak, i went to the university hospital in switzerland and the doctor said that despite the low risk its better i go for PEP .. he gave me combivir and kaletra ... only i want to say that despite my decision to take PEP and i hope i will be able to handle it ... your answer gives me peace that there is almost no chance i get hiv from oral sex ...
Avatar n tn But as I was not sure of this I decided to take pep, which was at first combivir and kaletra for 2 days, afterwards combivir only. I adhered toi the regime in 100%. I recently tested with hiv duo test 30 days after completing pep and the result was negative. As I am not from UK we have a different testing schedule (i suppose the old uk-one with 6 weeks, 3 and 6 months). But can I consider my 4 weeks post pep reliable?
Avatar m tn Hi, appreciated . Anyway went to doc today and be said no harm getting on PEP so I've just started my dose of combivir and kaletra. 4 pills twice a day.
Avatar n tn Measuring the efficacy of PEP is very difficult and large studies are underway. Combivir is likely effective and whether other regimens are more effective is unknown and, I suspect,, will not be known for some time, waiting on completion of the trial underway That said, the regimen you are on is among those that is recommended. At this time there is no benefit to be derived from adding a 3rd drug.
Avatar m tn My partner claimed that he is negative yet I know that he had few partners before me. I talked with HIV specialist and he put me on PEP (combivir+Kaletra) for 28 days which I started at ~65 hours. My adherence to the regime is extremely strict. In addition to the usual digestive side effects, I did not experience any other problem until last week. At 1.5 week mark I started to have a throat discomfort which is still around (more like a post nasal drip rather than sore throat) and stiff neck.
Avatar m tn Hi everyone: I am in my late twenties, married but, working in a foreign country. Wife is back home and sometimes I get really lonely. Anyways, 4 weeks ago I slept with a prostitute at a brothel. I use a condom but, realize after that the condom had blood on it. Now, today I went back to the same brothel and had sex with the same girl but, this time the condom broke. I didn't feel it but, she told me that the condom broke because, "she felt it brok".
Avatar f tn I had many exposures, unprotected vaginal sex, to someone who had hiv, i did not know at the time. I had a test 12-13 weeks after exposure and was negative, but I took combivir for 3 weeks 4 weeks after the exposure. Do you think the timing I took the medication had an affect on my antibody test, since I took it at a time that I could have been seroconverting.
Avatar n tn RN, I was stuck by a tbs syringe after giving heparin sq. After finding out that he was + hiv. I started prophylaxis combivir/kaletra 5 hrs after the incident. There was no blood in the syringe. I let it bleed and washed it with soap/water. What are the odds that I can convert to hiv+. I am also worried about the possible side effects of the drugs. I am planning to discontinue the drugs-...I feel tired easily and has a history of high cholesterol/triglycerides.
Avatar m tn I am on Combivir and Kaletra. My first dosage was taken about 20-22 hours after the potential exposure. I've been taking it like clock work every twelve hours since. After seeing my doctor today I am concerned. First, my day of lab blood tests for HIV aren't back yet (it's been two days) so that is concerning. Like I said, no unprotected activity short of oral since a negative test in May. That doesn't seem to ease my worried mind much though.
