m currently taking Kaletra and Combivir.
At first, I thought it was likely I was experiencing side effects of the PEPs(kaletra/combivir) but ive been off the PEPs for 3 weeks now. My Question is, what is the likelyhood of me not being infected with the virus? In all honestly the chances of all this happening by some coincedence right after a extremly questionable sexual encounter is too far fetch for me to believe and I have essentially diagnosed myself with the virus even though my 90 day test is October 16th.
So i have a lot of questions regarding the oportunity of PeP in both cases. I am a bit worried about the short term side effects and long term side effects. Should i continue PeP with both drugs? Will they damage my liver etc . Looot of questions :)

Is combivir an appropriate HIV nPEP regimen for one time unprotected encounter with CSW of unknown status in Kenya? I'm a 24 yr male from UK. Insertive vaginal and oral. Asked about Kaletra and doc said it's low risk doesn't recommend, but I am still very worried. Started within 12 hours, but still within 72 if kaletra should be added. I feel terrible of course but appreciate any advice.
Also there was some inconsistency in terms of which medicines I was taking. Day 1-4 combivir with kaletra, day 5-6 only combivir and day 7-10 combivir with tenofovir. So far I've been taking pep for 10 days so far and the side effects are really bad especially nausea. It's been really rough time and I feel like I can't handle the medicine anymore..feel really sick from it.
Four months ago i had a condom break on me on a girl with her period that had unknown status and dr put me on Combivir with Kaletra, and i stopped after 10 days when the girl showed me her test result. I did a test 1 month ago and i was negative, and now i am in the same spot. I already started on the Combivir every 12 hours and the kaletra every 12 hours i have left...
Please Dr, what are my chances of risk??? I do not want to take PEPs if not necesary..
I went 30 hrs after my exposure to the hospital and they gave me PEP (1 combivir and 2 kaletra twice per day) coming back to my country after 3 days i forgot the pills that i bought in switzerland and the doctor here suggested i take 1 atripla pill instead every night !!!
do you think this is feasible ( what is your assessment to the situation?!
if I have a PCR RNA viral load test done 1 week after exposure, what can I expect from the reliability of the results? If I get a negative is it actually the cases that I very likely did not contract the virus or might the retrovirals just suppress the viral load to an undetectable level?
My primary care physician indicated to me that he did not have much knowledge re Combivir side effects. He said in reading about Combivir that it can affect lactic acid levels in the muscles and that this may contribute to muscle soreness. I am waiting to also pose this question to the specialist he referred me to. After about 4 days the soreness went away. Now, I admit I am lucky and don't have much experience with the flu and "flu like symptoms".
My doctor said healthy individuals often had severe side effects and potentially positive people sometimes saw lighter side effects. That has me even more concerned.
Can you provide any context for the effectiveness of a PEP treatment like the one I am on? Can you provide any context for my concerns about not having severe enough side effects? I know this was a ridiculously stupid incident in a very high risk environment.

Here I have few concern of my own experience. I was put on PEP (Kaletra & Combivir) 68 hours later after protected vaginal sex and unprotected oral sex (the CSW gave me bj).
I got rash on day 8 of my PEP accompany with mouth ulcer and white tongue.
My test on week 6 is negative. And on week 9 I got another negative test called Combo Test.
Unfortunately, the same kind of rash appear again on week 11 with same mouth ulcer and white tongue.
Hello I ran into an incident last night and ended up having unprotected sexual intercourse with a stipper. I started the first dose of Combivir last night and was wondering if the side effects get too bad and I cannot take it for the full 28 days, what I should do. They cannot get any other PEP prophylaxis treatments besides the Combivir and was really worried about the side effects of this medication, as I am already feeling nauseated.
I have read the interchanges you have had on the HIV Prevention Community and have to say that I agree with Lizzie Lou and Teak. If you had seen me, I would not have given you PEP as the cost and side effects far out way the likelihood that you were exposed to HIV or, if you were, that you would become infected. In addition, I must say, I am very impressed that you or your doctor can feel 2-3 mm (less than 1/4 inch) lymph nodes. I know of no other clinician who could do so reliably.
Thank you kenzorio. The doctor said there are not enough data available to properly answer the question and recommanded to keep as well. I'm just concerned about side effects of combivir. Another question tho, once side effects are experienced do they get worst or they stabilize?
About lactic acidosis does it keeps build up in the system the more you take combivir or does it stabilize?
rash on the foot,shortness of breath,sore throat,sore arm pits, malasie, bad headaches, fatigue, constipation, and diarrhea
after 42 days i was taken off the PEPs (kaletra and combivir) and almost immediatly the sore throat was reduced and the headaches have gotten slightly better. however my arm pits are still sore.
i tested negative at 7 days and 30 days.
RN,
I was stuck by a tbs syringe after giving heparin sq. After finding out that he was + hiv. I started prophylaxis combivir/kaletra 5 hrs after the incident.There was no blood in the syringe. I let it bleed and washed it with soap/water. What are the odds that I can convert to hiv+.
I am also worried about the possible side effects of the drugs. I am planning to discontinue the drugs-...I feel tired easily and has a history of high cholesterol/triglycerides.
