Common Questions and Answers about Jaw pain after tooth pulled

jaw-pain

Avatar n tn Is it a jaw bone infection? After I had the tooth pulled I was put on clindamycin. I went back to the oral surgeon because the pain is so bad and he said it is healing nicely and gave me Percocet and said to give it a couple more days. It has been a week since I have had the tooth pulled and the pain is getting worse. I am taking 2 Percocet (325) every 4 hours and that isn’t taking the pain away. Only lasts about 2 hours. I can’t live like this, it is terrible. I don’t know what to do.
Avatar n tn after having a tooth pulled it leaves a hard trama to your jaw and around the area it was pulled from so yes you will be in pain and yes some swelling will happen. I had the same issue after having a bad tooth removed.it took about 2 months for that knot to finally go away, use an ice pack on the side ot where the knot is, it will help sooth the pain. 2 days ago i just had 6 teeth pulled and guess what, i got the knot back again.
Avatar n tn I am having diffculties opening my mouth because of the pain and soreness. What I need to know is this normal to have pain in the jaw area after a wisdom tooth extraction? And if so, how long should I expect to experience this pain?
Avatar f tn I had a tooth extracted 3 days ago. the area where the tooth was pulled does not hurt but 2 of the injection sites hurt terribly. There is intense pain towards the back of my jaw, ear, and lower jaw bone.they gave me antibiotics but have not been running a fever. They don't seem to help. I have also been taking 800mg ibuprofen which helps for about 3 hours then the pain is back. It is not getting any better. The pain is almost unbearable. Any suggestions?

Avatar f tn I had the same pain it was an absessed tooth they gave me antibiotics and it made it so much better I didn't get it pulled because you have to do it without pain medicine .
Avatar f tn I'm scared ive had a root canal before and a tooth pulled and both times got heavy duty pain killers for after i figured now I'm prego n won't get anything =/ i know ill be in alot of pain after ... Thanks for the icepack suggestion will def.
Avatar n tn I had a tooth go bad. Dentist was unable to re-crown, not enough root left. He pulled it and made a bridge. The area where the tooth was pulled really hurt for several days afterwards, but finally let up a bit. Yesterday, three weeks later, I was fitted with my new bridge. The area was so sensitive that I had to be numbed to place the bridge. It really hurt after the bridge was placed. Now, 24 hours later, my jaw hurts, I have some ear pain, and I about died when I drank coffee this morning!
Avatar n tn Ever since visiting the dentist two weeks ago and having a tooth pulled, my jaw has been locked up. I have pain when I try to brush my teeth, and if I try to push my lower jaw out to line up my teeth there is pain near my ear. How do I get my jaw back on track so to speak?
Avatar f tn I do have an exposed root at the gumline on that tooth and have very sensitive teeth to begin with. After a week she had me come back and she filed down the onlay some to make sure that there was no contact with the other tooth. The tooth below it hurts when the tooth with the onlay starts in as well. The dentist says that if Ibuprofin is controlling the pain this well, that I probably don't need a root canal but it may be a possibility.
Avatar n tn I have always been told that teeth should not be crowned until you can positively identify the exact tooth causing the pain. Otherwise, the dentist may crown the wrong tooth. The only way to know for sure is to wait until the tooth cracks further and a piece breaks off. That has happened to 2 of my teeth. Then I had them crowned.
Avatar n tn SOMETIMES THE PAIN SEEMED MORE LIKE MY JAW BONE, AND TOOTH PAIN. MY DENTIST CHECKED THE BITE, AND TOOK X-RAY. I WENT SEVERAL TIMES, AND HE COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING. I WAS REFERRED TO AN ENDODONTIST WHO BASICALLY DID THE SAME THING. HE SAID THE ROOT CANAL WAS OK (FROM X-RAY) AND IF PAIN CONTINUED, I NEEDED TO HAVE THE TOOTH PULLIED. IN NOVEMBER 2007, MY DENTIST PULLED THE TOOTH. IT WAS VERY LARGE AND BROKE IN SEVERAL PIECES. IT TOOK HIM OVER AN HOUR TO REMOVE THE TOOTH.
Avatar n tn for a couple months, and I experienced and on and off low grade fever for many months as well. But then after a few months I had extremely severe pain form between the tooth and my maxillary sinus on that side, and then pain back to my jaw, and below my jaw down my neck with swollen lymph nodes. Plus when I bite down that tooth and only that tooth hurts.
Avatar f tn any how i woke up today and was in minor pain meaning it was bearrable but i felt it im wondering why im in pain since i had the tooth pulled that was causing the pain.
Avatar n tn I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled a week ago. The dentist who pulled them had me awake with local pain killers. The right two were the hardest to get out and they spent an hour extracting them. I knew when they were doing it that they were pulling fairly hard on my jaw and possibly unhinging it as I go to a chiropractor often to get my jaw aligned.

Avatar n tn I had a tooth pulled on the lower right. I still have infection; but, the tooth is gone. I am on sithromax antibiotic and am still in pain. How long will it to clear up the infection in my jaw and cheek? This discussion is related to lasting pain after extraction months.
Avatar m tn Five days a go I had a tooth extracted, the tooth broke up and couldn't be pulled normally. So the dentist took 45 mins of drilling, cutting and elevation to finally get it out, which wasn't a nice experience. He stitched the area and I was given two sorts of antibiotics, in high doses, to combat any infection. After 5 days I still have a very swollen cheek and gum. Also my jaw hurts at the hinge when I try to open my mouth the most I can open is 1/2 inch.
Avatar n tn When anesthegia wore off I was left in chronic extreme pain that extends from the middle of my lip and jaw to my ear and up into my eye socket. The pain is extreme but centered on the lower row of teeth where the crown was put on. Yesterday the dentist checked everything, did a second xray, and found nothing. He stated the tooth is probably dying but admitted it had shown no signs of problem upon examination other than one corner had broken off, which was the reason for the crown.
1947337 tn?1331423890 If it is a bad tooth im really scared to go to dentist because I had to have 2 jaw teeth pulled about 6 months ago because they were so bad granted, I have never had bad teeth before, anyway, getting those pulled were excrutiating and I was in pain for 3 months in my neck and jaw. I did not know at the time that I had chiari or I might have not had them pulled. I was only diagnosed about a month ago with a 20mm extension. Fixing to start PT and on pain meds, valium, and steroids.
Avatar m tn hi i had my upper left tooth pulled its in the back area mostly its tooth number 14 its a big tooth i had root canal done on it in the past and it was good for a while but it started to act up again so i thought i would just pull it for good and get a small bridge there soon but i thought in a few days after i pulled it that the pain would be gone for good but the first 2 weeks was so bad the pain i took alot of pain killers it helped a little and i did the salt water rinse that helped a little
Avatar f tn After that, the tooth pain subsided completely. However, the past 3 mornings I have woken up with the worst headaches I have ever had. Is this normal for getting wisdom teeth out or is this a side effect of the Percocet? Is there any reason to be concerned about this?
Avatar f tn I finally got a diagnosis for all my jaw and facial pain. After a specialized X-ray, called a panolypse, it was found that I have a derangment of the temporal-mandibular disc. It allws the mandible to strike the trigeminal nerves, causing all the pain. That's why the sx were confusing as to which dx I had. Neither one as it turns out. I have to have a tooth pulled on July 6th, then will have a splint made for my mouth, to change the alignment of the bones and disc. They hope.
Avatar n tn She said if I was not dealing with TMJD issues she would try to retreat it - but she feels CERTAIN the pain is associated with the jaw and is all referred pain. My pain from the tooth radiates back to my jaw and the masseter muscle and trideminal nerve. She wants me to try to get the jaw issues under control first before retreating the tooth. She does not feel it is fractured further either - she tested the gumline etc.
