Jaw pain from infected tooth

Common Questions and Answers about Jaw pain from infected tooth

Avatar m tn The dentist and surgeon weren't sure if the infection had spread over to that tooth as well, but they wanted to try to root canal it so I can still chew on that side. The pain from that tooth is incredible. I can't bite down on it, tap it or anything. My dentist said he can't root canal it yet because the surgery site is still too new and he might aggravate or rip my stitches. I'm not on antibiotics because I was on the a few weeks ago and got very, very ill from them.
Avatar n tn i get pain in my left side upper and lower jaw when i lie down the pain travels from the back teeth to the front and stops when i sit upright for a while just had a root canal done but pai is still there on and off not much pain in the day but lots at night and cant get any sleep. what can it be ?
Avatar f tn I've just had a partial root canal for my bottom molar, and I had a few deep injections. At first I thought the pain was coming from my tooth, but I think it's from the injections. If I tough under my jaw it triggers the pain. I've been taking anti infammatory pain meds, and I'm on an antibotic. I spoke with the dentist to have the rest of my root canal put off for a few weeks. If I'm still in pain is it safe to continue? Will this pain eventually go away?
5598716 tn?1439146795 I'm getting ear pain, neck pain and face pain all on the right side where the irritated tooth is. That whole right side from my neck up is sensitive and painful. I wish I'd remembered to ask for an antibiotic and pain medicine at my appointment yesterday. I completely forgot and my dentist didn't offer. I don't ever think I've had a toothache this bad before. It's probably infected and who knows if I have an abcess.
Avatar m tn Good Morning, A couple months ago I had an infected tooth extracted. The extraction was a little more complicated because the tooth was fused to the bone; so upon extraction....a larger than normal piece of the bone was removed. It was a moler in the top left (my left). I was given Amoxicillan weeks before the extraction and after.
659608 tn?1318292966 It is however more than possible that you could have an infection in your jaw, say, from an impacted or infected wisdom tooth. Tooth pain can often make the ear and neck hurt as well (just as an ear infection can make the teeth hurt...). There is also the possibility that there is nothing wrong with you dentally either and you are suffering from neuralgic pain.
5635541 tn?1371396878 Feels like swelling is worse. Pain seemed to have subsided a bit from tooth yet now where lymhnode area where swollen is quite sore...I'm wondering if I should go sbout going back to hospital though I have no money to do so to get another set of antibiotics or is this normal. I have seen no signs of swelling improvement at all n quite conecerned. I just want the tooth out...
Avatar m tn 5 days after the filling was done, I was still getting a lot of pain from both the tooth and my lower jaw. The tooth that was filled is extremely sensitive to the cold air test and the dentist suspects that there may be an infection in the tooth and has put me on a course of amoxycilin. (This seems plausable as there was a 10 day delay between my old filling breaking and being able to get it fixed). However I am still experiencing terrible pain in my lower jaw.
Avatar n tn You may find that dentists do not spend any time counseling their patients relative to the things that cause tooth and root decay, or how to get free from it. Why should they when they make money from dental disease. Dental decay is the number one disease in the world. The primaryPrimary amyloidosis Primary biliary cirrhosis Primary hyperparathyroidism Primary insomnia Primary lymphoma of the brain cause is diet, and no amount of dental work can stop the decay process.
Avatar n tn The last time I visited he said it was mostly healed, wasn't infected and looked fine and the pain should settle down. In short it hasn't. Two weeks on from my last check up, I'v had the most awful pain over the weekend, have barely slept and am irratable and snappy.
Avatar f tn Hi, combination of your ear pain and the jaw pain could be due to sinus congestion. There are many cases where individuals that suffering from sinus congestion also experience pressure in the ear, with earaches and even jaw pain. The earaches you are having may be an infection in the ear due to blocked sinuses. Other causes of aw pain can be due to infection of salivary gland like parotitis, infected foci, osteoporosis related jaw disarticulation or fracture.
Avatar f tn I went to the dentist recently and dentist said that I had some decay on my wisdom teeth and that he wanted to pull them to stop infection and spreading he sent me to get an opg xray (I think that's what it's called) and when I went back he told me I had a really bad infection under the tooth in front of my bottom right wisdom tooth and it would need root canal treatment as the infection is really close to the jaw bone...
Avatar f tn Have the Sam e thing.Got a sinus infection that infected my eye and caused upper jaw pain. And some in my ear.
Avatar n tn Yes, you should definitely see a dentist in regards to your pain. The infection can spread, not necessarily from tooth to tooth but it can spread in the jaw which then can infect other teeth. It is important to get dental care especially since you have very severe symptoms. If you do have anxiety with dentistry, see if you can find a dentist that does sedation dentistry.
Avatar f tn My lower left wisdom tooth is infected. I am scheduled to get it extracted in a week from tomorrow. I first went to the dentist three weeks ago and he prescribed me amoxicillin, which I took and the pain and swelling went away. I then went to the oral surgeon a week later for a consultation. He said I had bone loss near the wisdom tooth from the infection, which scared me. He told me to wait to take another dose of amoxicillin until the day before the extraction.
Avatar m tn it hurts me a lot and makes facial swelling. Please advice what drugs can reduce pain from the wisdom tooth. i dont want to have the tooth out. best regards!
Avatar n tn Its possible but I'm not sure how likely it is. If you go to your regular care physician to get it checked out and it doesn't resolve the problem, I would then go to a dentist. If the symptoms progressively get worse and you get an oral symptom such as swelling in the mouth, then you should immediately go to a dentist for care.
Avatar m tn I had one removed lower left 6 days ago an still have a lot of pain. No swelling in my jaw or pain elsewhere. Just my jaw where tooth was at. Not stiff. So i doubt infection possible. Jsut wondering how long to expect pain...
Avatar f tn From everything I have read, it sounds like my partially impacted wisdom tooth is now infected. If that is the case, what do I do next? I don't have a regular dentist right now. We changed insurance and my next check up with a new dentist is the end of May. Not sure how much more of this I can take. I've only been able to eat yogurt all day because I can barely open my mouth.
Avatar n tn My dentist told me at the time that my bottom wisdom teeth would probably never come in.Well, they are.I have had extreme pain for about two weeks.Just the past couple of days i've noticed that it's causing my ear and jaw to hurt.Today I woke up and my gland in my neck, directly under my ear is swollen and it kind of hurts.I have a bad smell and taste coming from the tooth.Plus it is so swollen that it feels like I have a hard bump on my gum underneath that tooth. My question is.
Avatar n tn It certainly can be a dead nerve. You need to get an x-ray and have it treated.
Avatar m tn No pain. The left side of chin and lip from the corner to the center of the jaw is STILL numb. My extraction sites are a bit sore but no real pain to speak of. JUST THE NUMBNESS and now my teeth feel like they are being squeezed together but only on the left bottom toward the front. Day 3: Still no real pain but the numbness is getting me very very worried :( and the squeezed teeth feeling is still there.
874521 tn?1424120397 It's just as painful to leave that as let your pet be as it is at the moment - an infected painful tooth is present. As for pain, a local may numb the gumline, but a regional nerve block needs to be done for a tooth extraction and general anesthesia needs to be done to prevent wind up and failure of any other pain control methods as well as to be able to treat any other dental issues that are present.
Avatar f tn And i saw where you were wondering if you shud take a antibiotic.Well my experince with my tooth,as it was very infected, and after the doctor pulled my tooth,I asked for an atibotic, and he said i didn't need an antibiotic because they don't kill infection.I questioned that remark, because i've always understood they did.I still asked for an antibiotic and denied me any.Well.....By the next morning i woke up VERY sick, was very yellow.VERY YELLOW.My yellow eyes were glowing yellow.
Avatar n tn Doing bloodwork, xrays, etc will get you a more concrete answer before subjecting Mac to un-necessary (or damaging) therapies. One of the main concerns is an infected tooth that finally gets a drainage ability, then reduces in size, then the body tries to heal and the skin heals faster than the tissue underneath and it seals it back up refilling again. A salivary gland issue or lymph node issue are also possible causes.
Avatar n tn The right eye tooth needed a root canal next, but the pain continues in the first implant. I went to an oral surgeon and he said the implant was infected and in my sinus cavity. This implant was removed. The my jaw did not heal correctly, because there were bone fragments and pus were the first tooth was removed, and implant. The second implant was pinching into my jaw and they was a notch there, and this implant was remove.
Avatar n tn The pain continued all week and by Saturday, I took 3 hydrocodone to try to get some relief from the pain. Tuesday, May 13th, I went back to the dentist who said that the problem was beyond his scope. Then, I went to the endodontist who put me on Augmentin. The dentist and the endodontist conferred and sent me to the periodontist. The periodontist (5/14/2008) basically said there was nothing that could be done except to wait for months for the infection to heal.
Avatar n tn sorry for your kitties issues, did the Vet have a good look at her teeth? I'm asking b/c this could very well be cancer but it could also be an infected or abscessed tooth. In any case this poor kitty is in one H of alot of pain and its makes me scream that this Vet didn't prescribe any pain meds for her....you know yourself how painful a toothache is and kitties don't show pain well at all, some even DO continue to somehow eat...
Avatar n tn If she's young and the teeth are somewhat straight, they may be able to provide antibiotics and see if the roots will move up more and get further away from the nerves. If not, permanent numbness may occur, going from the back of the jaw area to the lip.
Avatar m tn I've had patients where the infection spreads up the cheek and pinch the jaw muscles, making it very hard and painful to open up to get the infected tooth out. With anything health related, its always best to tackle problems as soon as possible.
