I understand your hesitancy to take Meloxicam. Meloxicam is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with analgesic and fever reducer effects. It's often used in Arthritic and inflammatory conditions. However any NSAID comes with concerns - including OTC NSAIDs such as Ibuprofen.
Several years ago Glucosamine & Chondroitin was popular with medical providers. It was hailed as the new and one of the best "treatments" for restoring cartilage and reducing pain.
benzos like xanax, valium and klonopin are not designed to be sleeping meds and anything u use for sleep can be psychologically habit forming but benzos are physically habit forming as well....dalmane and restoril are 2 benzos made for sleep...habit forming tho....maybe break ur pills into quarters or thirds...and go down a small piece each week...OTC meds like valerian root or melatonin may help..tylenol pm...
I don't think Meloxicam is a good choice for anyone , it will ruin your kidney like mine, I was told by a kidney doctor to stop taking them they were ruining my kidneys. I have been taking Meloxicam for years for arthritis. Now I have stage 4 kidney disease. Stage 5 is kidney transplant or dialyses. it's your choice.
I'm looking for a relatively mild, non-habit-forming, liver-friendly sleep aid, either prescription or over-the-counter. Is there anything out there that you all have had success with? Thanks much in advance.
but it breaks down into a drug called meprobromate which is habit forming..indirectly, soma is habit forming and not the best choice in muscle relaxers for any addict to take. It is a drug that can work well if not abused..but some people tend to like abusing soma/ and if used daily in big amounts it must be tapered like benzos and trams....someone who takes 2 soma a day as RX-ed is not in addiction territory and most would not have an issue...but an addict may so it is not worth it...
It is an expensive drug, but so was our habit. I understand that it does not work for everybody, but I certainly think it is worth a shot for some of you.
Let me know what you think. Do you think taking Lyrica is cheating? I do feel a little guilty, because when I took it my body went ahhhh. I thought it would work like a stronger aspirin, but it works much better.
I also have high blood pressure and take Ibuprofen (which is like meloxicam as its an NSAID), I was told to drink MORE water so that the Ibuprofen doesn't make the blood pressure worse. Its some sort of chemical thing, a pharmacist told me once. Ever since then, my blood pressure has been so much better. Good luck to you.
I got x-rays and was diagnosed with degenerative arthritis in my big toe joint and on 9-18-13 I started taking Meloxicam (Mobic). The 1st two nights of taking Meloxicam I felt achey at night and had a fever of about 100- 101. That went away for a while, but then started happening again now every night from about 10-1-13 to now 10-11-13. I get a slight fever at night (100-101) and sweat bad all night long. Bad enough to where the sheets are wet. I usually lose about 3 - 3 1/2 lbs.
My doctor said this drug is being prescribed more and more to help recovering addicts fall asleep at night. It is non habit forming. I took it every night for about 3 months, then stopped. I fell asleep perfectly normal the next night. Everyone is different, but maybe talk to your doctor and see what they think.

If that is what it is used for then it's not working on me, I am trying to detox from methadone, so I can try other pain treatments, and I still have severe withdrawal symptoms.
Ambien can be habit forming if taken long enough it relaxes so you can sleep. Percocet is very habit forming, mixing these drugs with out your Dr. advice may be dangerous so you may need to see him or her. Tapering will be your best way to slow down the dosage, dont try to quit cold turkey it could do you more harm than go. Get help let us no how your doing.
I have gained a considerable amount of weight will taking Meloxicam. Once I stop taking will the weight come off??
Now after reading about Meloxicam side effects today, I am suspecting that perhaps the issue is the Meloxicam.
My symptoms seem slightly different each day. Initially it was a few days of mostly lower leg weakness and overall lack of energy. That changed to a few days of lower leg tingling and numbness, and then the numbness and tingling moved to mostly my right side leg and arm and slightly in my left leg.
I also take meloxicam, and tylenol is about the only thing that I know of that can be taken in conjunction with it. You still need to be careful not to take more than the prescribed dosages, though.
I believe there were studies done recently that showed too many people take over the counter tylenol, believing it's safe - too much of it is hard on the liver. Most people really only need one regular strength tylenol, not two extra strength.
Anyway, that got a little off topic.
Tramadol/ultram/ultracet (ultracet having tylenol in it) is habit-forming and not recommended for people with prior addictions...it was originally advertised as not being habit forming but it affects the same receptors as narcotics do...tram also has an antidepressant componenet which makes wd even more difficult due to the depression factor during detox...it is supposedly not "as" habit forming as other narcotics like hydrocodone or oxycodone if taken as prescribed...
but most are either habit forming or antidepressants that 1) take time to work, and 2) may have side effects you wouldn't tolerate.
You must get sleep. That is your goal. Wondering around in day slightly fogged in with sleep deprivation is just asking for trouble. The best would be to see a psychiatrist who is experienced, and can ask you the right questions about what is going on in your life.
I once went three solid weeks without sleep.
