For the past week I have been taking an antibiotic called Biaxin (for a sinus infection) which I know can trigger yeast infections. I have had yeast infections before and some have been frightening and painful, but this feels a bit different....
There is no itchiness or discharge, but I have some redness and some concentrated red sores. There is also some pinching feeling on the skin. Does this sound like a herpes outbreak? Should I start taking my acyclovir?
The doctor took blood and did a throat culture, in case I had strep or mono. Neither was present. BUT he gave me a different antibiotic for the sinus infection called Biaxin, for acute sinusitis, which has been working wonders after one day on it. But I just read that Biaxin is given to HIV/AIDS patients for Mycobacterium avium complex!!!! Is it possible that he did an HIV test without my knowledge and is now trying to treat me for it????
I have been frequently prescribed antibiotics (no penicilin or sulfa as I have been allergic since a child) over the past two years for having several bouts of sinus infections, throat infections and bronchitis symptoms. Suddenly, since April I started developing strange symptoms while taking any antibiotic. The antibiotics I've taken since April are Avelox, Zithromax, Clindamycin and Biaxin (all of which I haven taken previously over the years w/ no problems).
Biaxin (clarithromycin) is an antibiotic related to azithromycin which is widely used to treat STIs however biaxin is not well studies for STI treatment or prevention. As a result, while it is likely that biaxin may be effective against common bacterial STIs, there are not good data to say this with confidence. Most women do not have STIS and it is unlikely that your partner had and STI or if she did, you may not have acquired one.
Was in ER yesterday with chills, low grade fever (had for weeks), COUGH (had for weeks). Chest x-ray ok. Told to take Biaxin (2 500mg pills once a day for 3 weeks), along Prednisone Pack, and an inhaler
CT Scan results:
1. Small focus of soft tissue density at the anterior left ethmoid sinus.
2. Mild mucosal thickening at the inferior left maxillary sinus and minimal degree of mucosal thickening of the superomedial left maxillary sinus.
I have always had some sort of sinus issues but nothing like in the last few months. In April I got a bad cold which turned into a sinus infections. I did 7 days of Ceftin (I know it should have been longer but it was killing my reflux) well, I ended up with a partially treated sinus inf so I then did 21 days of the Ceftin. It got better but then 10 days later started with horrible sinus headaches. Did another 21 days of Ceftin and then went to an ENT.
I went through a similar thing one year - 5 bad sinus infections is 9 months. They were all caused by an obscure allergen in our home.

I was on Biaxin alone for 3mos and felt semi normal which for me is great. LLMD added Doxy and it has made all my symptoms come back worse than before. I want to quit the doxy but im told to just ride it out. I am wondering what exactly Doxy helps with? I kno biaxin helps with Bartonella for example. But what does Doxy do exactly for someone with late stage chronic lyme?

just one last point, the biaxin and amoxicilian were taken at different times around 2-3 months apart. Biaxin was for a Resp infection and the amoxicilian was for my saliva gland issue. I am a man. Next day, having been prescribed Biaxin for bronchitis, I took four 500 mg pills at once. I know this was foolish, but I had panicked.
5 days later I developed an infected ingrown hair at the base of my penis. I am over forty, and I believe I know an ingrown hair when I see one - when I take Biaxin I get them all over my legs.
Next day, the bump had not opened up into an ulcer. I saw a hair growing out of the middle of it, and squeezed the bump.
I had a cough and congestion for about 3 weeks before the doctor was able to diagnose me with a sinus infection. He gave me 875mg of Amoxicillin-twice a day for 10 days along with ZyrtecD and Mucinex. I finished the antibiotic and one of the others at the same time. Two days later, I was still coughing--post nasal drip. I had finished all the meds so I bought some more Mucinex and started that again. In another 2 days I was still had post nasal drep so I started Claritin.
i'm 23y/o i live in alaska and i've been using a cpap machine for about a year now. in the past 2 months i've had 2 sinus infections. i have never had a sinus infection prior to this. Can this be due to my cpap machine?
