i have been taking these capsules called inderal la for my depression and anxiety and they are not helping at all with my condition and i wanted to know if anybody else was taking the same medication and if it has helped them.

On January 18, 2011, my doctor put me on Inderal LA 60 mg because a stupid doctor upped my thyroid medicine too much and my heart rate and BP went off the chart. I have not taken any thyroid hormone since January 18th. While the Inderal has helped lower the BP and heart rate, I am having significant side effects from it and just wondered if others had experienced the same thing. I am quite fatigued but the most disturbing thing is I'm having very vivid and scary dreams.

i took citlopram and felt suicidal and my doctor stoped those and gave me half inderal la capsules. but these capsules are not working at all and my health is getting worse.

Hi Lauren, I know that Inderal can be taken for migraines and anxiety and that it quite effective in both. I am on 80mg of Long Acting Inderal twice a day for anxiety and it really has helped. It is released slowly into the blood stream and lasts whereas other beta blockers can be wearing off within an hour. Inderal has worked wonders with me. As xanweaner has said, visit your doctor to discuss the options and go from there.

I used to be on Inderal (80mg LA and 20mg for breakthrough episodes) and after awhile it seemed to lose its effectiveness. I also took Xanax, but only rarely and it helped with the anxiety. At one point, I was put on a daily dose of Xanax and within a couple weeks, I realized I had to increase the dose and/or frequency to maintain the effect. I stopped taking it daily, and for the past 10 years, I have only taken it on rare occasions...

I have been on Inderal for many years for a tremor in my hand. Inderal is prescribed for short term anxiety like the kind you get before having to speak in public, headaches, and blood pressure. I have never had any BP problems on it, but my pulse is lower....which is a good thing! I wouldn't worry, I think you'll be fine, but if really concerned talk to your doctor about it. Take care!

And he has prescribed me 40mg inderal (proponlol) For my palpitations (fast hrt rate then skipped beats pvcs and pacs) and then anxiety... And also for my anxiety he prescribed me 2mg diazipam..... Told to take just 1 inderal a day and 2mg diazipam when needed (before i take the inderal i spect).. Wants to see me Monday to check up on me.. I pleaded with him to start me off on the lowest dose inderal but he wouldnt, he insisted i take 40mg once a day...

Hi I have many different heart arrhythmias and I take Inderal la 60 , my heart rate is most of the time in the 50's I am having a Colonoscopy and my Dr. wants me to do Magnesium-Dulcolax prep . I feel that it would be dangerous to take it since that would probably increase my slow heart rate. What is a safe prep for people with heart condition like that?

Thanks for the reply.....I agree the hardest part is taking propafenone 3x's aday. Dr.had me stop the Propafenone( I don't really know why) and go on 80 mg.of Inderal LA....wow....I went to pieces as far as my AF....stayed on the propafenone for 7 days....got worse everyday. With Drs' ok I went back to propafenone 325 x 3 and Inderal 10mg x 2 aday...maybe they will formulate a LA form of propafenone soon.

i took inderal for years i took 10 mg twice a day , it was good for me but after a while it didnt help with my pac/pvc so i switched to timiolol and its great, bneen on it for 17 years with no problems .

I take Inderal LA 120mg 1x a day and I also take bcp (Yasmin) and Metformin 500mg 2x for weight loss. My doctor knew I was on Inderal LA and said it was fine. Talk to your doctor about getting on Metformin. It works great and with that I've lost 60 + lbs with it. I have all the symptoms that you have too, except I don't have high blood pressure. I wouldn't consider the lap band surgery (only as a last resort).

They have been using different meds to try to help with the headaches and now she is on Inderal LA 80 once a day. It helps some but what do we need to do? Do we need to go through with the TEE or what?

Especially if you are prone to anxiety, the not knowing only makes it worse.

Beta blockers have been prescribed for anxiety for a long time. As someone above mentioned, they are especially effective in social anxiety situations...ie before speaking in front of a large group, etc. In that scenario, a person takes one about 30 min-1 hour before the event. A regular dosing of these types of meds (Inderal is one that is commonly Rxed) can also be very useful in combatting anxiety on a daily basis.

Inderal is fairly commonly prescribed for anxiety. It is more commonly used to treat "stage fright", or public speaking type fears, but it is also used as a treatment for chronic anxiety. Like anything else...you'd have to wait and see what kind of experience you will have. Did you tell your doctor about your low resting heart rate? That is something he needs to know...and you need to be very cautious the first few week or so of taking the Inderal.

In 2006, I had an infection in my tonsils so bad that I had a temperature of 104 for one week straight, and then 101 for 3 weeks. I was in the hospital twice for elevated heart rate, the first time I was stuck at 140, the second my BPM was 185 while resting, even while observed for hours at the hospital. The ER doctors were stumped, but noticed when my temperature when down via meds, my heart rate would lower to 100-115.

ve been taking Propanolol since Dec 2009 20mg as needed until a new cardiologist switched me to 60mg of Inderal LA. The extended release or long acting works so much better than using the other and I don't notice as many ups and downs with my HR. He just switched me again to 120mg but I had to go back to 60mg twice daily because the 120mg at once gave me some major symptoms esp shortness of breath and tachycardia.

Correct. Nobody on here are doctors, but we can give you our opinons. I suggest to find a doctor ASAP to get this under control. I also suffer from migraines (not period related) but you may need something along the line of Imitrex to ease the pain away and something like Inderal LA to control how many migraines you get. I've been on Inderal LA for over 5 years now and been a suffer since I was 15. As far as your gyn issues, you need a doctor.

but found too many breakthroughs lately so my dr switched me to Inderal LA. last week.... my dr explained back in 2010 that the lower doses were better to begin with to get your body used to it and so I wouldn't become immune to it so quickly. My system is very sensitive and it only takes a small amount of meds to begin with for me to notice it.

Inderal is not likely having a major effect on your blood pressure. If it is short acting Inderal, taking it prn (as needed) for anxiety, I doubt it is having any effect on your pressure. Even if long acting, that is a low dose that is not likely to produce any antihypertensive (blood pressure) effect. 2. Not likely. 3. I would wait until you have 24 hour ambulatory recordings performed before starting medication.
