imitrex

Avatar f tn Im now on Butorphanol spray, demerol, ativan and sleeping pills, all for pain management, ,i have also been on preventatives for years,i have not worked for 20 yrs from my intense migraines. Although Imitrex im sure works for alot of people which is great if your body reacts well to it, unfortunately for me it didnt. Wishing you well in your journey.
656111 tn?1273820739 I had migraines for years and couldn't find anything to help much until I stumbled onto Omega-3 supplements (fish oil capsules). I started taking them for my cholesterol, but noticed after a while I wasn't having any more migraines. My doctor told me it may be the anti-inflammatory benefits of the Omega-3, the same thing that protects your heart. You can google "Lifeguard Health" for the brand I use, but there are many out there.
Avatar f tn Recently I have been experiencing persistent migraines. These are awful! I vomit and the whole nine yards. I have been taking Imitrex for the migraines, but have increased my intake to about one Imitrex every second day (that's what the averages tell me). My pharmacist raised the alarm and now my doctor is running tests. I didn't know, but apparently Imitrex, taken in large doses, can lead to stroke! This is the first forum I have ever joined.
Avatar m tn So, during the past year I have been taking Vicodin 5/500mg once or twice daily, some days none, just for my migraines, I never got high. I also used Tramadol 50mg for the sme purpose and for back pain, for almost two years, this one twice a day almost every day. Since I started to wean off my Xanax addiction I quit taking the Vicodin and Tramadol, except for 1 day had bad migraine and none Imitrex pills, my insurance only covers 9 pills and paying them is more than 200 dollars.
Avatar f tn I have a long history of migraines and so had to have a med I could take on treatment. I opted for Imitrex because it is okay with the Peg, Riba, and Incivek. Interestingly enough, I have not had any bad migraines on treatment but I think that is because I know most of the migraine triggers and have avoided them like the plague. Before treatment, I was taking Cafergot and a tiny dose of Tylenol # 3 when I got the migraines, which was not often these last few years.
Avatar f tn I really understand your pain. I've getting severe migraines for years. Have ever figured what the trigger for you is? Light, stress, food allergy? I started having them as a result of a bad snowboarding accident. I am pretty loyal to Imitrex. But always at max dose of 200mg. There is a new drug from makers of Imitrex called Trixamet. It is Imitrex plus an NSAID. I got a sample from my doc. I loved it.
5527883 tn?1392586811 Well, if it's the only solution, and you need the Vicodin for your migraines, then put a solid plan in place for when you need them including having someone else holding them for you, trying to catch the migraine in its early stages (if you can) so you don't need the Vicodin as much, or as much of it. I DO agree that opiates have been proven to worsen the cycle of migraines.
Avatar f tn I have tried numerous medications. (Amerge, Imitrex, Toradol, Fioricet, Maxalt, Indocin, Lithium, Imitrex Injections, Vicodin, Perocet.. I beleive there is a few others I just can't think of them at this time) I am now being treated with Zonegran, Depakote. The Zonegran was working for a little while but I have seemed to reach a plateau. I have not been migraine free at all since November, but there have been times where my migraines have been less painful.
Avatar m tn imitrex is a medication that is for migraines and it is one of the BEST classes of medication for migraines because it actually interrupts the physiology of the migraine... I will talk more about this in a little bit to answer your question about what it does and how it works... but I have to get into what happens during a migraine so it's a bit of a long answer so first I'll answer a few more of your other questions...
Avatar n tn Ask your doctor for Imitrex 100mg, is not narcotic, non addictive and it takes away your migraine right away. I'm also a migraine surferer and have tried a lot of medications and Imitrex works wonders.
Avatar f tn When I was having frequent migraines and my insurance would only pay for one refill of Maxalt each month, I obtained prescriptions for both Maxalt and Relpax and filled both each month. They worked equally well for me.
1051752 tn?1253833456 Advil is not migraine medication and can cause problems by making headaches worse. Imitrex is migraine medication that is specifically for migraine and it will stop a migraine. Most migraines do not come with aura. Take that into consideration when you get a headache that feels exactly like your regular migraine just without an aura. That means you are having a migraine. You don't need an aura to have a migraine. Take your migraine medication for a migraine.
Avatar n tn I have a friend that has dealt with debilitating migraines all of her life and she swears that the prescription drug Maxalt is the only thing that is effective for her and she has tried many medications including imitrex. She told me they are dissolvable tablets such that if you get sick and vomit, you won't vomit up the medication. I will get a migraine headache every once in a blue moon and I take the regular OTC stuff for it.
Avatar n tn I have a headache almost everyday of the week and a migraine 2-3 times per month. I only take the Relpax during my migraines and may take tylenol, ibuprofen, or excedrin for my headace without any relief. My MD had spoken with me about taking medicine daily to prevent the occurence of my migraines. I really do not want to take another daily med because I want to have a baby in the next couple of years. The Relpax gives me really bad "jet lag" the whole rest of the day after taking it.
1569579 tn?1299187685 Under the treatments for migraines why isn't Imitrex or Fioranal listed?
Avatar f tn m not sure if my body had simply grown tolerant being on the same dose dly for 5-6 yrs or if it was because of the increased demands my body had to go through this past year, but I made the difficult decision to increase my oxycontin to 50mg three times dly. I have also been on fioricet and imitrex PRN for my many headaches and migraines. I suspect that my headaches have increased in frequency and intensity to the point that I have them daily because of all the meds I take.
Avatar n tn I took the medication and I was sitting in my reclining chair and in about 15 mins I became paralyzed for 2.5-3 hours. I had no other medications in my system. I DO NOT use drugs or drink alcohol. Only Imitrex. My husband honestly thought I was joking. I could not lift my head. I could not move my arms or legs. I could not swallow my drool. I swear if my breathing and blinking where not involuntary I would not have been doing either of those.
Avatar f tn does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.
Avatar f tn t do anything until recently and even with pain killers such as vicodin and morphine(which was via i.v.) and imitrex there was no relief.I normally go about 3 weeks with a migraine get a couple days free but then it comes back normally in the middle of the night to where I wake up crying from the pain.I have had this current one without break for 5 weeks and 3 days.Is it normal to suffer for this long and for this many years with few breaks in between?
709686 tn?1277432159 of all migraines hit me about 2pm. When I got home I took a 10mg Imitrex tablet and laid down. Now these Imitrex tablets make me very sleepy so once the headache began to fade I went soundly asleep around 6pm and slept until 6am. Since I skipped dinner last night I was quite weak this morning until I ate breakfast. I only took one 10mg norco tablet during this time as I am on my "taper" schedule. I was quite proud of myself.
1046692 tn?1255391835 Is it safe to take Lexapro and Imitrex? There is a warning on the package against this but I thought I would ask the professionals first.
Avatar n tn Yes, let me know what the doctor says even though I been to neurologists and headache specialists they just don't know! thank God for the imitrex i mean it goes away after 15 minutes of taking it, but how much longer do i have to take this for? It can't be that safe to keep taking this. Did you try 100mg's of imitrex? That's what works for me I had tried 50 and it didn nothing once I got 100 it was a whole new world.
1079216 tn?1258200805 Hi charmed6418, Thanks for joining! I have the same problem of sometimes thinking that my migraine is a different type of headache and then I will treat it with the wrong type of medication and the migraine just gets a whole lot worse!! My neurologist always says the same thing to me "it will be SO rare that any of your headaches will be something other than a migraine! always treat for a migraine!!!" but...
1103688 tn?1257894552 Not all triptans are made with the same ingredients and so not all triptans will have the same side-effects. For example, Imitrex is the only triptan that is also a Sulfa drug (many people have Sulfa allergies). Imitrex is known to cause the side-effect you mentioned in some people, the severe heart palpitations.

2104296 tn?1334841551 This treatment would not have been effective for me prior to a lot of acupuncture and my body getting off of narcotic pain relieving meds which my body had grown dependent on. I now have demerol generic pills for my emergency medication and don't tend to use it more than maybe a couple times a year.
