Common Questions and Answers about Ibuprofen gel prescription

ibuprofen

Avatar f tn I have a shoulder problem and used to be on strong pain killers, but my doctor told me to change to heat rubs!
Avatar n tn I have a lot of back / spine issues. I take some pretty heavy medication, but as far as OTC meds go, I find Liquid Gel Advil helps me the most. A couple of things to keep in mind: Ibuprofen can damage your kidneys and acetaminophen (Tylenol) can damage your liver. Prescription meds like hydrocodone have acetaminophen in them. Good luck.
Avatar f tn I have been taking 4 7.5 mg hydrocodone for apprx. 1 year. This was prescribed for DJD in my right knee. I have been told I am too young for surgery. I have not been taking it as prescribed because it never worked. I take the entire 4 per day at one time about mid afternoon. This relieves my pain for about 8 hours. My doctor has told me that if I take them every 6 hours as prescribed before I experience pain they will work but this has not been the case.
Avatar n tn t always easy doing it, would make my hips feel better the rest of the day,) ibuprofen, lidoderm patchs or a prescription gel, like the Voltaren gel. My joint pain generally responds to heat better than ice (though lately I've been having trouble with bursitis in both knees and ice seems to work best for that.) Hope tomorrow is a better day for you.
Avatar f tn Sometimes we have to piece together many things to get some pain relief. I use prescription gel, patches, ibuprofen, nortriptyline, & some narcotics.
Avatar f tn Also wondering about the role of prescription meds. I've been on bupropion for a while now and I'm wondering if that may have any effect on my body chemistry. Anyone else on long-term medication?
Avatar n tn You should be just fine unless you have an allergy to ibuprofen. Prescription Motrin is 800mg of Ibuprofen so that is the equivalent of four of the 200mg Ibuprofen. If you don't break out in a rash or have breathing difficulties after taking one or two Ibuprofen, please don't lose sleep over taking a third. As I said, as long as you can take Ibuprofen in the first place without having a problem, three won't bother you.
Avatar n tn I know how bad it can be. I had a joint replacement in my left thumb but the implant failed and wound up having 9 surgeries, countless meds, procedures, etc. I don't know if you've tried glucosamine chondroiton. It can help rebuild cartilage if you haven't gone too far. It was too late for my hands but it may be helping other spots I have. What kind of doctor are you seeing? I get some relief from a prescription gel called Voltaren.
Avatar n tn Hi, Folliculitis or inflamed hair follicles goes away without medical treatment within two to three days. Self-care measures, such as warm compresses and topical medications, can help relieve the symptoms. However, persistent or recurring cases are likely to require treatment which depends on the type and severity of the infection. Over-the-counter pain medications such as ibuprofen or paracetamol may help. Oral antibiotic may also be prescribed to prevent infection.
3122657 tn?1357432602 Hi all so far 3 months into treatment i was pretty much sailing through it but not by body is hurting my back my legs just everything i ran out of Acetaminophen and want to know if anyone here knows if i can take Ibuprofen for the aches i am undetectable at week 4 no liver damage if someone could help me out with this Thanks Much love Karen
1148241 tn?1294052796 I recently quit taking Vicodin for my joint pain because I was concerned about liver damage. I have been taking Ibuprofen instead. I've been taking two in the morning and then two in the afternoon. It says don't take longer than 10 days though. I have to take something though. My knees and wrists and fingers hurt too much if I don't. I know you guys aren't Drs but experience counts for something if its what your Dr has told you. What do you guys take?
397118 tn?1219762250 been taking tylenol 2 to 3 times a day but not helping I have an appointment to see a chiropractor but I want to know if you all know what is safe for someone like me to take over the counter or prescription for pain on my shoulder blade and upper back. Thank you so much and I hope you are all having a great day!
Business man2 Hydrocodone only comes with either acetaminophen or ibuprofen. Tramadol is another medication that I use with my patients that is of equal effectiveness but does come without the other medications. However, some patients will experience nausea with tramadol. Good luck!
199177 tn?1490498534 I just happened to read something the other day where someone said they were using an Ibuprofen 'cream' topically. But they said it's only sold in Germany... but that it could be ordered online (it's non-prescription). No idea how effective this really is - just passing it along.
486038 tn?1300063367 I can't think of any OTC drugs that might help except for ibuprofen but I'm not sure if that would do the trick. Watch out taking ibuprofen especially if you have stomach issues (ulcers, heartburn, gerd) because it can cause stomach upset and bleeding if you have an ulcer. Ibuprofen helps with inflammation and pain. What have tried so far? I wouldn't try heat..it might make it worse. I can't believe they just want you to "make do and handle it"!
623065 tn?1275503695 Ask for a script for prescription strength ibuprofen and maybe a script for Lidocaine Gel which you can rub on your gums/tooth to numb it. I had to have a root canal and 3 wisdom teeth pulled when I was on sub and told dentist straight up I did NOT want any pain meds, gave him the whole story, told him I was on sub-he still tried to push Tylenol 3 on me, but we agreed on the ibuprofen and lidocaine..
Avatar n tn s available by prescription. it can be used off label but as you already know it pretty much tanked in the larger studies so it's really not worthwhile.
1534233 tn?1523388856 The top of my left shoulder is quite painful to the touch. I've tried ibuprofen tablets and gel, also paracetamol and codeine tablets. I've previously had some worries about chest pain being angina although all tests for this are negative. The pain goes into my neck a bit when I press my shoulder, I'm fairly happy this pain is not heart related. But wonder what I can do to treat it.
Avatar n tn Do you have any neck problem history? If so,see orthopaedic doctor to get diagnosis, then alternative medicine can help.Don't worry!
Avatar m tn Some are compounded specifically for your type of pain. Others, like Voltaren gel, is like a regular prescription. There are lidoderm patches that can be applied (also prescription.) And many people underestimate the use of things like Tylenol, ibuprofen, or naproxen. These OTC medications can often make the other drugs last longer or work better. Then there are all kinds of treatments ranging from cortisone shots, epidural injections, stellate ganglion blocks, and more.
Avatar n tn Hi, I ended up inserting some of an alcohol-based gel into my urethra 3 days ago. I have been using Azo for the pain, which is helping some, but I am surprised at how little the symptoms are abating. Could it be that this will take a while to heal? Could this have caused some kind of permanent damage?
Avatar f tn s a voltaren gel that is good for rubbing over the joint that may give you relief. For some, OTC ibuprofen is as effective as the more expensive prescription NSAIDs, like Voltaren. The steroid injection may offer immediate relief.
