Hypoglycemia causes confusion

Common Questions and Answers about Hypoglycemia causes confusion

hypoglycemia

Avatar n tn It was weird, it only lasted about 6 seconds but I had to really concentrate to speak. My family has a history of diabetes and hypoglycemia. Has anyone heard of low blood sugar causing slurred speech?
Avatar f tn The other neuroglycopenic manifestations of hypoglycemia may be abnormal mental state, anxiety, fatigue, confusion, paresthesiae etc. Other non organic causes of seizure may be a febrile convulsion due to very high body temperature. He needs to be evaluated thoroughly for a complete blood sugar profile, fasting, post prandial and an hbA1C to check his glycemic control over the last 3 months. The neurologist should reexamine him for systemic manifestations of diabetes to check. Take care.
Avatar m tn Hello boogie and welcome to the forums! What kind of medical history do you have? (ie: Hypertension on hypertension medication, diabetes, etc.) What an awful feeling with the shaky legs. Fortunately, you didn't fall over! Thank goodness! Weakness in your lower extremities and slight confusion would tell me either you're possibly having an episode of hypotension or possibly low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
Avatar f tn Confusion, abnormal behavior or both, such as the inability to complete routine tasks Visual disturbances, such as double vision and blurred vision Seizures, though uncommon Loss of consciousness, though uncommon Hypoglycemia may also cause these other signs and symptoms: Heart palpitations, Shakiness, Anxiety, Sweating, Hunger. These symptoms aren't specific to hypoglycemia. There may be other causes.
Avatar n tn Do you have any of these symptoms...shaking, sweating, confusion, weakness?? If so, experiment with Orange juice or grape juice or whatever juice you prefer...drink 4 ounces and wait 10-15 minutes and check your count again...depending on which lab you have your blood work done, the normal range is either 70-110 or 80-120...if you are not having a hypoglycemic event, sweating, shaking etc. it's possible that your count is fine...
Avatar n tn My vision has changed, my toe has fungus and I seem to have all of the symptoms of diabetes. I was tested for hypoglycemia about three years ago and it was 117. I saw my doctor last week for a follow up strep appointment and mentioned diabetes to him. Unfortunately I had just eaten a huge lunch, so he was unable to test me. He told me to come back next week. Well, as of Jan.1, my insurance has changed and I have to switch doctors.
Avatar m tn I' am not a diabetic; I' am a hypoglycemic and everyday I experience fasting hypoglycemia upon waking. My morning blood glucose is between 25-30mg/dL and I always feel like crap, I only experience reactive adrenergic symptoms like, moderate hypertension, sweating, arrhythmia, headache, lightheadedness, shaking and nausea during the episode.
Avatar n tn He had to undergo another (minor) operation 6 months after by-pass due to infection in sternum. During the gap..he was diagnosed leaned more towards hypoglycemia. So much so that insuline dose was not required during preparing him for the second operation. Even after operation he started giving symptoms of hypoglycemia.i.e. shivering, confusion etc. He was advised and treated for hypolycemia.
Avatar n tn Yesterday I went to the bathroom (just to pee) and when I sat down, I felt my blood sugar dropping. Usually, by the tme I "feel" it, it's already in the 40's. I thought I'd be okay for as long as I would be there. That was NOT the case. I found myself ON THE FLOOR calling for my fiance' to help me. He brought crackers and peanut butter. I ate one square (which was not enough, of course) and he was litterally feeding me as I laid there unable to get up.
Avatar f tn Trembling, fatigue and headaches after meals may be caused by postprandial hypoglycemia or reactive hypoglycemia. To verify this diagnosis, you need to check your blood sugar level ( a blood glucose level that falls below 70mg/dL). This condition usually occurs in individuals who do not have diabetes. Associated symptoms include sweating, dizziness, anxiety, confusion, weakness and difficulty with speech.
Avatar n tn Is severe Hypoglycemia a sign of Diabetes? I have had a normal fasting blood tests. My hypoglycemia strikes with no warning many times throughout the day, even as soon as an hour after my meals. I have to carry glucose tablets and orange juice with me at all times. When it falls low I cannot function. The last really bad episode of this I could hardly breathe, complete mental confusion, weak all over, headache, heart palpitations, very scary to say the least.
757137 tn?1347196453 I have long believed that most alcoholism was not a psychological problem, but a physical one related to hypoglycemia. Some years ago I had occasion to test my theory on a friend of mine who had become an alcoholic. She had all the signs of a hypoglycemic, the most notable being sugar cravings. (She was, by the way, very slender.) She told me she went on her biggest binges when she got out of rehab. I found out that in rehab they replace alcohol with lots of sugary foods.
Avatar f tn hypoglycemia is not diabetes. That just gives the doctors more confusion and they are confused enough. I have had low blood sugar with the gtt but know I had the symptoms when I was young. I have yet to find a doc who knows more than any layman who has to cope with it. Most of them do not understand the term even. Anybody knows a good doctor in Falls Church or Wash DC area please tell me. I would also be glad to go to NIH in Bethesda.
Avatar f tn I have a follow up appointment with my doctor tomorrow question is is this something that I would have to take medication for regularly while pregnant. I already feel I'm taking too much medication now antibiotics for tooth infection plus tylenol #3 something for nausea prenatal vitamins and now this hypoglycemia. through all this I'm just praying that my baby is healthy.
Avatar n tn Hello you may have hypoglycemia-low blood sugar. Try eating some peanut butter crackers and juice or regular cola next time the symptoms start to see if it helps. If you can eat 6 small meals a day it will probably stop your symptoms all together.
Avatar m tn respiratory issues, nausea, numbness, pain, muscle spasms, memory problems, confusion, anxiety, anemia, hypoglycemia, heart racing... All started up just out of the blue. Symptoms come and go frequently. Sometimes I feel normal. Sometimes I suffer like no other. Its Been getting worse. Seems like my mind is in a fog? Could this be a Neurolical infection or what? I cant afford healthcare and am terrified of doctors because usually when they pull my blood I pass out.
Avatar f tn Due to your sugar not actually being hypoglycemic (this is below 70) it's not likely reactive hypoglycemia. Reactive hypoglycemia is your sugar dropping within 4 hours after too many carbs eaten in non-diabetics. Based on your having dumping syndrome, it's likely that it's what is causing your symptoms. It's called late dumping. It might be something you could check into. A late dumping phase may happen about 1 to 3 hours after eating.
Avatar f tn Your questions have been answered on your post on the same subject. Please keep questions to one post to prevent any confusion. Thanks.
Avatar n tn Hypoglycemia in children is a puzzling problem, for until the root cause of it is discovered (and sometimes it never IS discovered why it happens to certain children), you are stuck simply responding to it whenever it happens instead of fixing the root health problem that causes it. A pediatric endocrinologist should be able to do tests to rule out some causes and narrow down possible causes in order to have a better idea of what the problem actually is as she grows.
Avatar m tn Then a ringing in my ears that kept getting louder, as these three things kept getting stronger i started to see blue spots, losing my vision, and felt confusion. i ended the conversation with my buddy and stepped out side, i immidiatly started to sweat as well. but after couple of minutes of fresh air and some water. i felt much better. what might have caused this?
Avatar f tn If you experience this, you will need a diet of small, frequent meals that include complex carbohydrates such as breads, pastas and rice. Hypoglycemia, also known as low blood sugar, causes many symptoms including fatigue, confusion and heart flutters because -- in the case of cirrhosis -- the liver isn't able to store enough energy (in the form of glycogen, a chemical the body uses for quick energy).
Avatar m tn Low testosterone, low vitamin B12, sudden hypoglycemia, and poor sleep patterns and sleep apnea could be other causes. It can also be a psychotic disorder. Since a confirmed diagnosis cannot be given on net please consult your doctor regarding this. Hope this helps. Take care!
