Hypoglycemia causes hormones

Common Questions and Answers about Hypoglycemia causes hormones

hypoglycemia

Avatar n tn I cannot go for more than about 90 minutes without feelings of ravenous hunger and symptoms of hypoglycemia. I have tested for hypoglycemia, but symptoms occur in the mid-60s, well before the standard blood glucose level identified as hypoglycemic. I have had my thyroid tested (normal) and two blood panels: standard metabolic (CO2 level slightly high at 34, otherwise normal) and standard blood test (normal). I have seen a counselor.
Avatar n tn I think she must do a complete study of possible causes of hypoglycemia, there are some other endocrine deficiencies, certain disorders of the adrenal glands and the pituitary gland that can result in a deficiency of key hormones that regulate glucose production. I would recommend her to do much more tests (when the glycemia is low) to find out (exclude) the causes (ex. of some tests: insulin , C peptide, cortisol, ethanol, Hemoglobin A1c ....) .
Avatar n tn Unfortunately, when people have what is called REACTIVE HYPOGLYCEMIA (when the body reacts by over-producing insulin, which causes hypoglycemia), it can be difficult to show in a test. I have known people with classic symptoms who surely suffer from this problem who have had negative results from glucose tolerance tests. This is because there are so many factors that can contribute to hypoglycemia -- stress, hormones, activity, what foods you eat, and a myriad more.
Avatar f tn It’s taken me two years, but I think I figured out that I have reactive hypoglycemia. I’m F, 38 always been super healthy and focused on health. Right before or during my period, if I don’t eat enough or on time I get hypoglycemic. If I eat dinner too late, reactive hypoglycemia happens. It’s a horrible feeling!
Avatar n tn Hello, Allergic rhinitis can be one of the causes of night sweats but many other causes are also there. Anxiety and stress are also important causes of night sweats. Infections like sinusitis, pharyngitis, or other upper respiratory infections are an important cause of night sweats. Other than that perimenopausal women often experience night sweats. How old are you? Perimenopause is defined as the transitional period from normal menstrual periods to no periods at all.
Avatar n tn Some of the symptoms of this condition can include hypoglycemia, so it may be wise to have your doctor check out the levels of your adrenal hormones (cortisol). Methadone is supposed to LOWER blood pressure, so I doubt if this is the cause of your high blood pressure. Diabetes itself can damage blood vessels and can damage the entire cirulatory system, and a rise in blood pressure could mean that some damage in the circulatory system is happening.
Avatar n tn I assume you are aware that hormonal changes can cause sugar levels to rise when hormones that act as insulin blockers are high, or drop at times when other hormones are higher. If whatever is causing the ovarian pain also affects hormonal levels, hypoglycemia could be a result. This is something that only a type 1 diabetic female would be aware of, and it may be worth mentioning to the doctor in case hormonal imbalance is actually the root cause of the hypoglycemia.
Avatar f tn These issues happens at night only and only after I eat dinner when hubby and I go walking about and hour or 2 after I eat. I do eat a balanced meal of prot, carb and veggies I'm not diabetic or even close to borderline. My doctor told me to eat sweet potatoes instead of white and still have issues...so annoying. I don't feel terrible on this new dose I just want to be the best I can be ..
757137 tn?1347196453 I have long believed that most alcoholism was not a psychological problem, but a physical one related to hypoglycemia. Some years ago I had occasion to test my theory on a friend of mine who had become an alcoholic. She had all the signs of a hypoglycemic, the most notable being sugar cravings. (She was, by the way, very slender.) She told me she went on her biggest binges when she got out of rehab. I found out that in rehab they replace alcohol with lots of sugary foods.
1344219 tn?1279201027 Hypoglycemia, food allergies, adrenal problems, thyroid being high or low, hormones. I have had your exact same symptoms, and the heart stabs were due to over breathing causing my ribs to become inflamed, this in turn would cause me to be more short of breath, it was a vicious circle.
Avatar n tn http://diabetes.niddk.nih.gov/dm/pubs/hypoglycemia/ However, their information is general and cannot substitute for a thorough workup with an endocrinologist. On a personal note, it is generally considered unsafe to simply stop one's medications, especially if that change was not planned for with your doctor. Hope you'll call your doc, get a referral to an endo -- and let us know what you find out.
Avatar n tn It was weird, it only lasted about 6 seconds but I had to really concentrate to speak. My family has a history of diabetes and hypoglycemia. Has anyone heard of low blood sugar causing slurred speech?
Avatar n tn s completely possible that you have a minor hormone imbalance, hypoglycemia or low blood pressure, that causes some symptoms, and that you severely elevate the symptoms by being afraid of them. I do. And I really don't blame you. This is scary. Sometimes exercise may help, if you can handle it. Ask your doctor. If you don't tolerate beta blockers, there are other medications that slow the sinus node without affecting heart contractility, that are often used with IST. Good luck.
Avatar f tn t take some certain brands due to colors and fillers, but this sounds like an excuse to sell you something expensive to me... I have never heard of AI as a result of an allergy either. But I do know AI causes suppressed immune systems and lots of them get candida... as long as you are feeling better. I have gone for acupuncture now for years and love it.
Avatar n tn Several months ago, reports published that many post bypass Sx people have benign pancreatic tumors causing hypoglycemia. Seems, though, no one yet sure if those tumors should be removed -- it corrects hyppoglycemia, but no one knows how long it will be before more grow. My doctors feel it best to try to treat the unstable insulin, but the endocrinologist admits he is going through uncharted territory and merely "guessing" what to do. I was put on Metformin (Glucophage) 500 mg.
Avatar f tn I have a follow up appointment with my doctor tomorrow question is is this something that I would have to take medication for regularly while pregnant. I already feel I'm taking too much medication now antibiotics for tooth infection plus tylenol #3 something for nausea prenatal vitamins and now this hypoglycemia. through all this I'm just praying that my baby is healthy.
Avatar n tn Hello you may have hypoglycemia-low blood sugar. Try eating some peanut butter crackers and juice or regular cola next time the symptoms start to see if it helps. If you can eat 6 small meals a day it will probably stop your symptoms all together.
Avatar f tn Orthostatic or positional vertigo is another possibility. Hypoglycemia and severe anemia and or GERD or gastric reflux could be other causes. It could also be a vasovagal syncope or a vasovagal attack. The complex group of symptoms is mediated by the vagus nerve. This nerve is irritated by prolonged standing, standing up suddenly, stress, pain, hunger, dehydration, intense emotion etc. A tilt table test, holter monitor, echocardiogram etc are done for confirmed diagnosis.
Avatar n tn Hypoglycemia in children is a puzzling problem, for until the root cause of it is discovered (and sometimes it never IS discovered why it happens to certain children), you are stuck simply responding to it whenever it happens instead of fixing the root health problem that causes it. A pediatric endocrinologist should be able to do tests to rule out some causes and narrow down possible causes in order to have a better idea of what the problem actually is as she grows.
Avatar n tn Have you been tested for hypoglycemia? Breaking out in a sweat is a common symptom of low blood sugar, and it is possible to pass out if the sugar levels get too low. Most healthy people find that their bodies fix the situation pretty quickly once the brain sends out signals for emergency sugars to be released from the liver, which would mean that the symptoms are temporary. So hypoglycemia spells could be the cause of passing out...
Avatar m tn 7 The 3-Hour was flagged as hypoglycemic and the pattern seems to be consistent with reactive hypoglycemia. Although insulin levels were never extraordinarily high, the increase between the 2nd and 3rd hours seems to be abnormal and indicative of delayed insulin response, a pattern associated with insulin resistance. Several years ago I had elevated cortisol throughout the day. Last year, is was below range for most of the day.
Avatar f tn It can also be due to severe acidity with H pylori infection and gastric reflux, hypoglycemia, carcinoid syndromes, hyperthyroidism, and sleep disorders. Other causes include AIDS, cancer, infections in the body and side effect of certain drugs. At times cause cannot be found out. Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral. Hope this helps. Take care!
Avatar m tn These are due to something called covert hypoglycemia. Intensive treatment to control diabetes by certain drugs leads to hypoglycemia which may not be recognised by the body. These hypoglycemic episodes are the cause of weakness and loss of energy.
Avatar m tn I have been having problems with hypoglycemia and I was also have fatigue for the past couple months - my arms and legs felt tired and I feel like I was craving sleep. My doctor found my TSH was 9.8 (5.4 high limit normal). All other blood panel items were normal including fasting insulin. He started me on 50mg levothyroxine. 2 days after I started taking levothyroxine, I felt like I had ALOT of energy, more than I've had in years. I've felt this way for 2 weeks.
