Common Questions and Answers about Hypoglycemia and gestational diabetes

hypoglycemia

Avatar n tn Has anyone ever been diagnosed so early in pregnancy with Gestational Diabetes and then tested normal after the baby was born? I actually failed the one hour at 14 weeks. Strange thing is I ran across my old questions in this forum while doing a search, and My numbers were high during this stage of my pregnancy, but by the time I had my test at 28 weeks, they were very normal for the 1 hr glucose. No 3 hour was ever done. My first test during my last pregnancy was at 9 weeks which was normal.

Avatar f tn low blood sugar is not the same as gestational diabetes. however even with gestational diabetes you can have low blood sugar.
Avatar f tn The risk for baby with diabete are hypoglycemia at birth, but doctor and nurses will know to check for that, baby might be oversize and baby might come early. So the risks are not so bad and you can reduce them by managing your blood sugar. Don't hesitate to ask your doctor all your questions being inform is often reassuring. Take care and I wish you a great pregnancy.
Avatar f tn So ladies, I need some advice. Ftm 31 weeks healthy pregnancy up until now. Yesterday my doctor called and told me I have GD. I don't see her again until tomorrow and then she's gonna explain everything...but, I've been reading up on it and I'm not understanding how I got it? I already eat very healthy...I haven't liked sweets my entire pregnancy and even before then I didn't eat them very often.
6918915 tn?1395932871 It could be gestional diabetes. I'm hypoglycemic and I have gestional diabetes. Normally, when I feel like that is because my blood pressure is high.
Avatar n tn Isnt hypoglycemia when your sugars ar below like 70? That rarely happens for me and it usually after I do some major exercise like hiking in the woods when I go deer hunting. Since I have been pregnant during hunting season for the last two years, I always take food and water with me if I start to feel ill. I dont take any meds for GD.
10161345 tn?1488138652 I've had hypoglycemia most of my life and crohn's disease for all of it (though only diagnosed a few years ago), so I've always had to be kind of careful. I was wondering if anyone else had experience with restrictive diets and hypoglycemia during pregnancy? At 27 weeks I'm struggling to keep my blood sugar up/stable between what foods are and aren't recommended during pregnancy combined with what my flare-prevention diet allows.
604185 tn?1233960857 I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes and was on diet for a week. But the glucose level don't seem to fall in the normal range. 1450627 tn?1296616593 s not that you are eating cr@p but they will teach you how to eat when you have gestational diabetes. You have to eat every few hours like clockwork and exercise helps too like yoga or going for walks. I'd say through the weekend try not to stress if it was something urgent they wouldn't just send you home. I'd try eating every few hours and lots of veggies, lean protein and such. Avoid sugar. I don't have diabetes so I don't know the specifics.
8526246 tn?1405601876 I have gestational diabetes and up until 3 weeks ago I was able to control my sugar levels with diet and exercise. I was diagnosed with gd at 28 weeks and I am almost 37 weeks. I am on medicine for it. I balled my eyes out because I feel like a failure. They reassured me that sometimes its the person not doing what they should, but in my case its different. I am being induced at 39 weeks. Im hoping I go into labor on my own. No c section unless my baby has a massive growth spurt.
Avatar f tn I failed my one hour (fasting) with my first pregnancy at 178, and also the one hour (fasting ) with this pregnancy at 162. Passed both 3 hour fasting test and I have hypoglycemia (opposite of diabetes) and every other female in my family are diabetes.
243097 tn?1233755999 i had such a craving for candy today and ice cream that i ate some....can this affect my baby? Can these gestationla diabetes kill the baby?
Avatar f tn Actoplusmet along with diet has caused daily reading to be perfectly between 80 and 120 and A1C levels have averaged between 5.5 and 5.0. This is all without any exercise program (I do stand and walk all day, but that's all). All of this is to say that I want to take as few medications as possible. I was also prescribed Lexapro, Lamictal, and Welbutrin for dystymia and anxiety. I recently taperd off the Lexapro.
Avatar f tn s dad is a borderline diabetic, it runs in his family, and hypoglycemia and diabetes runs in my side of the family... Help and advice please!!!
Avatar n tn Oh I hate glucose tolerance tests! Not only is fasting (especially while pregnant) a pain but the stuff they have you drink is gross. That said, the test is normal and necessary. It is usually done around 28 weeks gestation but can be done earlier if there is a family history of diabetes or if the woman has had gestational diabetes in a previous pregnancy.
Avatar f tn Without proper testing results one assumption is you experienced reactive hypoglycemia. Reactive hypoglycemia [or alimentary hypoglycemia] is low glucose [blood sugar] that occurs after a meal — usually one to three hours after eating. Try the following: • Eat several small meals and snacks throughout the day, no more than three hours apart. • Eat a well-balanced diet including lean and nonmeat sources of protein and high-fiber foods including whole grains, fruit and vegetables.
Avatar f tn It could be hypoglycemia. I was getting spells that's sound like yours almost every day after working or exercising. I would get very faint, hands would shake, really hot and sweaty, my vision got blurry and I felt really really hungry. After eating something I would feel better about 20 minutes later. It got really bad tho where I literally had to stuff my face with whatever I could find to eat because waiting 20 minutes wasn't an option for me cuz it felt so scary and bad.
Avatar m tn Sugar count would have to do with diabetes. You can develop gestational diabetes sometimes. Low blood sugar is known as hypoglycemia.
Avatar f tn At the time I was in super shape but had a lot of hypoglycemia crises, and I have had hypoglycemia here and there since then. So I have a hard time understanding how I could pass this test now that I am pregnant and quite sedentary?? My test is going to be repeated in 2 weeks at 28 weeks and we'll see if I pass or fail.
Avatar n tn -) I had gestational diabetes with my 3rd pregnancy, my 4thkids was fine and now hypoglycemia. I also have a big problem with blackouts and feeling dizzy.
1080243 tn?1262975363 Have him seeing a Endocrinologist and a Diabetes Educator and try be with him so you both learn and you are able to help him. Best Wishes!
Avatar n tn The symptoms are vary varied and might include dizziness, feeling generally out of it, fatigue, irritability, disorientation, tingling. Testing is the key as if your numbers have been high for awhile you will feel low even if you're not. You should treat any lows below 60 (some treat below 70) with a couple glucose tablets. You will learn the correct number for you.
Avatar n tn Is hypoglycemia the same as diabetes? What's the difference between type 1 and type2 diabetes? is it the age of the person that makes the difference between the two types?
6712392 tn?1393708678 If you follow your diet you probably won't have to get insulin so you gotta pay attention. Insulin is like steroids for babies. Being diabetic is bad enough bc of high sugars. Add insulin to the mix and that's when you get the 10+ lb babies and become even more at risk for having a c section.
Avatar f tn Gestational diabetes puts the infant at risk for a great deal of complicantions, ranging from hypoglycemia (very low sugar) to acute respiratory distress. Other complications include high birth weight requiring c section or risk to nerves inthe arm and shoulder during vaginal birth. If mom has it but she is able to keep her blood sugars in the normal range the babies risk drop down to average.
Avatar n tn You may not know that a dry mouth which can feel like thirst is one of the symptoms of hypoglycemia as well as diabetes. And logic tells us that if your mouth is dry and you are drinking lots of fluids, you will urinate often. I am a tightly-controlled type 1 diabetic, and the dry mouth feeling that I get when my glucose is low is almost identical to the sensation of having high blood sugar.
