Why are you running out !?!??!?!
If it is just running out refill the prescription early 2 days. If you have Humilin R on hand I question how old it is. If more than 30 days it is probably expired anyway. I also question having this Insulin as it has been largely discontinued for use as better insulins are now available.
But the short answer is Novolog and Humlin R do not act in the same manner so substiuting can be very tricky and is probably not recommended.
Some people find that one works more effectively than the other, so which is used is really up to the patient. Humulin, more commonly called Humulin NPH, and even more commonly called just NPH, is a long acting insulin. It is absorbed more slowly, and it's effects last longer, about 12 hours. Usually NPH is used in combination with one of the fast acting insulins. An alternative long acting insulin would be Lantus.
I live in Kenya and cannot find any supply of NovoLog there is only Humulin R. I need help to know if this is accceptable please!!!
After giving birth, the gestational diabetes took a respite for 6 months and then my sugars shot up and I lost 30 pounds hoping to avoid insulin but I ended up on insulin anyway. I kept off those 30 pounds and was at an average weight until I started Lantus and now I gained back all that weight.
While doctors will tell you it's not the insulin as they don't want you to stop taking it, I do believe some insulins (like any medication) have side effects.
I have had diabetes for 30 years.I had much better control when I was using humuln n and humulin r . I am now taking lantus and novolog .I have had to increase my dosages and am still having a hard time getting control of my blood sugars. My aic is 7.8 this quarter vs 8. last quarter. should I go back to using the older drugs that gave me better control?
The prices ranged from $70-$110 for 30 days of the XR generic. I tried it with those free discount pharmacy cards and even though online they indicated that some of my local pharmacies would provide the XR in the $12-30 range for 30 days when I went to Walmart, Sams, NeighborCare, CVS they all told me that the card didn't give any discount and the $70-$110 rate applied. Walgreens had a year long "insurance" for $20 that brought the price of the XR tablets to $50.

Zoe - I think Windchimes meant humulin insulin not huminsulin. Humulin is considered an intermediate acting insulin as its duration is 24 hours, but this can vary per individual. LANTUS, on the other hand, is considered long lasting as its duration is up to 36 hours.

You're a good friend to be concerned about your friends well being. If "N" is Humulin N, there is no "standard" Humulin N dose that will work for all people or even for the same person in all situations. This applies to other insulin types too. If your friends at home test results show low glucose levels "several times per week" it is time to have his/her insulin dosages re-evaluated by their physician.
30, I started acting EXTREMELY different. I became really loud and obnoxious, lost my ability to think clearly, lost the ability to focus my vision, and had lots of trouble trying to find the right/appropriate words to say. I'm fairly certain I shouldn't have been driving. Everything seemed chaotic and I felt like I was acting extremely ditzy.
That lasted until 9:00, when I started becoming paranoid. I was tired, and I still am, but I couldn't and can't fall asleep.

They told me the generic is the same as name brand and wouldn't cause this and to drink more fluids today. My HR came down to 58 this afternoon more my normal. Tonight I took bp it was 163/94 HR 67. My question is Has anyone had this happen by switching to the generic bp med? I am also on vasotec,metoprol, and micardis. Sorry this is so long.
so for instance if with your insurance you pay $30 for non-generic drugs on the approved list and $10 for generics on the approved list - you'd be paying $20 less/month for your valtrex. Typically it's 30% reduction in price when it goes generic initially for paying out of pocket.
drugstore.com currently offers 30 valtrex tablets for $208.
I have been using Humulin R and just started using humulog in combination with this to try and put weight back on , lost about 25lbs . I seem to be having trouble with the humulog . I know our readings are different in canada , 5 to 7 is normal.I have had sugars as high as 32 and used 10 units of humalog , half an hour later I am 34 , I don't understand this ? What is the ratio of humalog to carbs ? I had the flu and I know it can really mess up your sugars , but this was a month ago .
I want to Thank You both fo your answers My dr took me off of novalin and put me on Humulin 15 units twice a day and it is working some what better I take the humulin like I did the Novalin 15 minutes before meals sugars are doing some better not running near as high as it was on the Lantus If I do not see any results in the next couple of weeks will ask to be referred to and endro

Most dogs do well on either Novolin N or Humulin N. Personally, I found Humulin N to work better for my dog. The cost of a bottle of insulin at WalMart is about $25 compared to $50 for the same thing at a regular retail pharmacy.
7. There are many diets you can use. You are not limited to w/d, which the vets seem to push! I don't know if your dog vomited because he didn't like the w/d, but maybe you have an idea about why that happened. It may have been because his sugar was high.
