HUMULIN-N HAS SWOLLEN ME UP. I HAVE GAINED OVER 50 LBS. I ASKED MY DOCTOR TO PUT ME BACK ON 70/30 AT MY LAST OFFICE VISIT LAST WEEK.

How frequent I can take insulin Humulin 70/30. I am taking 25 unit before each meal some just before meal or sometime after meal. Please advice how much I can take in a day ? How much min duration between 2 intakes ?

Cannot seem to control blood sugars, recently finished hep c tx succesfully, although still have cirrohsis but I am doing massive amounts of insulin novilin 70/30 injections (about 135 units daily) and feel real crappy as I seem to rollercoaster all over the place, any help out there. p.s. tried lantus and it worked for awhile, then did the rapid at all meals, tried both at same time, and just swithced to the 70/30 about a week or so ago.

Why are you running out !?!??!?! If it is just running out refill the prescription early 2 days. If you have Humilin R on hand I question how old it is. If more than 30 days it is probably expired anyway. I also question having this Insulin as it has been largely discontinued for use as better insulins are now available. But the short answer is Novolog and Humlin R do not act in the same manner so substiuting can be very tricky and is probably not recommended.

Zoe - I think Windchimes meant humulin insulin not huminsulin. Humulin is considered an intermediate acting insulin as its duration is 24 hours, but this can vary per individual. LANTUS, on the other hand, is considered long lasting as its duration is up to 36 hours. I contacted my insurance company today to ask about the price of the meds for triple treatment. A 3 month supply of interferon, ribavirin, & Victrelis would cost $180.00 (so about $60 a month) I thought it was going to be a lot higher. But I forgot to ask about "rescue drugs". You're a good friend to be concerned about your friends well being. If "N" is Humulin N, there is no "standard" Humulin N dose that will work for all people or even for the same person in all situations. This applies to other insulin types too. If your friends at home test results show low glucose levels "several times per week" it is time to have his/her insulin dosages re-evaluated by their physician.

I called a month or so to check. This is what they told me.... If you have the 80/20 plan, it is covered. If you have the 70/30 plan, it is not.... Unfortunately, I have the 70/30 plan, so I'm having to pay for mine out of pocket.

I found a great place doing a special during lunch hours on business days. For $130 I get to go now (21 weeks) for a 40 min session of about 70% 2d/3d and 30% 4d. Yes, insurance usually covers the cost but how much they pay is determined by your policy coverage. As in 80 -20 or 70 -30 or 100%. Deductibles play a role and you must make sure your health plan includes drug coverage. Just depends on what your policy states. I have read on this forum where some people are denied because biopsy does not indicate they have enough damage to the liver to justify treatment. I have been using Humulin R and just started using humulog in combination with this to try and put weight back on , lost about 25lbs . I seem to be having trouble with the humulog . I know our readings are different in canada , 5 to 7 is normal.I have had sugars as high as 32 and used 10 units of humalog , half an hour later I am 34 , I don't understand this ? I know some places where you can get them done that isnt the drs office, I'm going to get 3d photos done at 30 weeks and it's $70 I've also gone to get gender ultrasound done at 14 weeks

I want to Thank You both fo your answers My dr took me off of novalin and put me on Humulin 15 units twice a day and it is working some what better I take the humulin like I did the Novalin 15 minutes before meals sugars are doing some better not running near as high as it was on the Lantus If I do not see any results in the next couple of weeks will ask to be referred to and endro again thank You both
