Humira vs infliximab

Common Questions and Answers about Humira vs infliximab

humira

Avatar n tn There has been no suggestion that I go back on to mtx, and when I see my gastro next week will ask if I can change to Humira, which is a similar monoclonal drug to infliximab (remicade). Through some 25 yrs of taking steroids, when this was the only medication to try and keep the Crohn's in remission (was diagnosed in 1970 - 40 yrs ago) I have significant osteo-arthritis in both hands, feet and hips.
1539111 tn?1293014306 Since then he has been under constant treatment. We were given steroid courses, infliximab, adalimumab injections, and now he is on methotrexate every week since 2 weeks. My concern is that this injection is a chemo treatment, which can have many side effects as well as good effects. My son is now nearly 11 years old. His health is deteriorating by the day. He feels weak and dizzy, cannot do activity like playing outside with other children because he feels tired and worn out.
621770 tn?1243220914 I am participating in a Remicade/Infliximab along with standard care PegInf and Riba and was wondering if anyone out there is too?
Avatar m tn s (Infliximab, Humira) which I started last July, so at least he is current with all new drugs. and....I trust him implicitly. Protein? I have always had to follow a high protein, high carb, low fibre diet, so I tend to eat very little red meat, but lots of fish, chicken and game. I occasionally have calves' liver, because I like it, and it has a lot of iron.
Avatar f tn I was on mtx tablets 25 mg weekly, then 25 mg injections (done at home weekly), but after having some serious flares and surgery (right hemi-colectomy) 3 yrs ago, I was put on Infliximab infusions, every 8 weeks as a day patient in hospital. This caused enormous weight gain and I have just recently gone back onto mtx 25 mg injections which is working okay.
686769 tn?1236272131 Has anyone been on Humira and what kind of result did you have? Any side effects? I am on lots of meds which are not decreasing the pain. My doctor wants to put me on Humira and I was wondering if anyone out there has had any success with this drug. I am desperate to NOT be in pain anymore. Help...
Avatar f tn Lulu--I used to take humira, which is a TNF inhibitor like Enbrel. One of the rare side effects of both humira and enbrel is the development of MS or MS-like symptoms. I didn't pay enough attention to the warning because it seemed so remote and happened so rarely. However, it happened to me. If what I have is MS, the doctor isn't sure whether the humira caused it, or if I would've gotten MS anyway, but the humira hurried the process along.
6843062 tn?1387857703 Also, if need be you an take aminosalicylates under expert guidance as this group of drugs does not affect the baby either in mother’s womb or during breast feeding. Biologic drugs such as adalimumab (Humira) and infliximab (Remicade) can also be started later in pregnancy. Discuss this with your doctor. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
5625068 tn?1371156181 now need to decide on a medication and have been giving the chose between the infusion and giving myself shots. My doctors seems to be leaning toward Humira shots. The idea of giving myself shots for the rest of my life is very overwhelming. My mother gives herself shots, and wants the infusion, but cannot because she would have to change medicines and her Embrel is working so the Dr. wont switch her. Does anybody have any insight to which is better.
Avatar f tn he thinks that i will get some help from humira and i am to start that this week. i have done searches but only find info on humira induced lupus, nothing about treating lupus with humira. is anyone on here taking humira for lupus? any advise would be greatly appreciated. thanks!!
1349026 tn?1276805457 Hi Hannah, Have you talked with your GI doctor about Remicade or Humira or any of those types of medications? My GI doctor told me they are the strongest on the market and the last option medication wise before surgery. I was on remicade but unfortunately my crohn's was too far gone along with other complications so it was not working so I had no other option but surgery. Remicade is done by an infusion which takes about 2-3 hours.
Avatar f tn ve been on all sorts of different medications such as anti-inflammatories (I have to stay on them forever!), prednisolone, Infliximab (also on this forever!), Modulen IBD (a liquid only diet to rest my bowel) and sustagen- Hospital Formula (similar to Modulen, just tastes a bit better!). So to begin with...I've been on Prednisolone many times and on the 6th time I experienced insomnia and severe anger issues.
Avatar f tn Anyone taking humira and feel like they are sick coming down with a cold for a week after injection? Not a full blown cold but the start of one. I feel like this always and this is my 3rd dosage ( counting the starter kit), so I'm new to humira. I've noticed if I'm stressed, I'll even get a sore throat. I know humira suppresses your immune system but are you supposed to feel like you're coming down with something every injection or will this go away with time?
158939 tn?1274915197 I've just had my 2nd injection of Humira today (on 20mg, 2x month). Both times I've had no energy and felt bad for about 12 hours after the injection. Anyone else have this type of reaction to the injection?
Avatar m tn Of course it seems a lot of folks have the same questions you do after reading humira info online - found a lot of questions asking if humira causes herpes. If you already have herpes simplex, either orally or genitally, it could cause it to reactivate. Most people never get tested for herpes to know that they have it.
Avatar f tn Hi monicaroni, I have been taking Humira almost 8 months. I take humira for Crohns Althougth reap the benefit for the AS. I am thinking that you probably had a concurrent infection brewing when you Started Humira. Good Luck managing your AS, I appreciate how difficult it can be with mobility issues, and treating pain.
Avatar f tn As you well know Humira is an immuno-suppressive drug , which mainly inhibits TNF (tumor necrosis factor). There's a growing amount of evidence of the development of Autoimmune conditions, related to TNF inhibitors, such as Remicade, Humira and other biologics.
Avatar m tn My gastro is going to start me on Humira and my question is, does Humira aid with digestion and stop the diarrhea. Thanks!
Avatar m tn Hello. Thank you for your excellent question. Nystagmus, or rhythmic oscillations of the eyes, is usually in one direction (the fast beating component) toward the normal ear, whereas sometimes in central vertigo it can reverse direction. Also, in peripheral vertigo the nystagmus is horizontal, whereas in central vertigo it can be in any direction.
Avatar n tn My husband missed his dose of Humira by 24 hours a week ago. He is now vomiting regularly like he did prior to his diagnosis. Is this normal with a missed dose? He has been on Humira since September.
Avatar f tn I just started Humira (2 shots so far) and have had a worsening of symptoms since the first shot. My hands/feet have become swollen and my joints hurt more than before I started taking the Humira. I also have systemic vasculitis (Churg-Strauss Syndrome) and am on Cytoxan and Prednisone, but I have been taking both for more than a year and know the side-effects from each.
Avatar f tn I changed to Humira recently and was wondering if anybody has had success with humira who has ankylosing spondylitis. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Avatar n tn I have RA and use Humira/methotrexate. How long do I have to be off Humira to get a yellow fever (and/or tyhphoid) vaccine? How long to I have to stay off Humira after the vaccine?
