Tbd Some people, including me find that a ketogenic diet (focusing on very low carb, moderate protein, and unprocessed natural fats) is helpful for blood sugar. Aside from exercise, which you are already doing, weight loss, if you are overweight can help in lowering blood sugars. Other than this, you may wish to consult with your dr in case any change in medications can also assist your progress. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn What I found as the most effective way to do this is via a ketogenic diet. There is a great book called the Art and Science of Nutritional Ketosis, by Dr Phinney and Dr Volek. There are a lot of free youtube videos by both doctors Phinney and Volek who describe how to lose fat, while protecting and building physical and athletic strength. Really good stuff. So, through proper nutrition, you can lose the fat and maintain/build muscle. Hope this helps. Good luck!!
Avatar n tn It's very normal to lose weight first then gain it later. With my daughter I lost 20 pounds because I was sick all the time. With my son this time I lost 10 pds with him but I wasn't sick I just lost it. That is one of the reasons I checked to see if I was pregnant.
Avatar n tn I have just read a book on fasting and using a ketogenic diet for weight loss and diabetes reversal. I am trying it now and am finding it very easy to implement. There are various fasts you can do. I am sure you can find one or two ways to work for you. You should get this book! I have tried all of the diets in my 63 yrs of life and none have given lasting results. I feel like this way is going to be much easier to do than those I have tried in the past.
Avatar n tn May I suggest you do some research on the Ketogenic Diet. It is a huge lifestyle change, but is totally worth it. Ketogenic lifestyle requires that you cut out almost all carbs. You eat less than 20g of carbs a day, moderate amount of protein 50-100g/day (60-75 is ideal for most people), and 100-150g fat/day. It is a high fat diet that switches your body from using carbs for energy to using fat for energy.
Avatar f tn 2 in the Annals of Internal Medicine shows the low carb high fat diet excels for weight loss and heart health. The low fat diet saw more lean muscle lost than body fat. Good tip: avoid low fat everything. :) "People who avoid carbohydrates and eat more fat, even saturated fat, lose more body fat and have fewer cardiovascular risks than people who follow the low-fat diet that health authorities have favored for decades, a major new study shows.
Avatar f tn Nathan was started on a diet for Seizure control...Ketogenic Diet. He had his last grand mal seizure the 3 day on the diet. His muscle and drop seizures ended 2 months later completely, but we noticed they were less harsh with each one he had til they just stopped." - excerpt from KetoGenic Diet for Seizures.

Avatar n tn I personally eat a Ketogenic diet of 20g or less net carbs a day. Most of my diet comes from meat, cheese and non-starchy vegetables. The high levels of fat in my diet help keep me satiated and promotes weight loss. I also tend to avoid artificial sweeteners as much as possible. I eat gluten free and grain free.
Avatar m tn One of the most useful ways to help lose weight is to do exercises regularly. Some good ones that are highly suggested is walking, swimming and running.
6990909 tn?1435275816 Has anybody tried a ketogenic diet for health issues? I'm just trying to find holistic ways to deal with RA. I have tried focusing on foods with anti-inflammatory properties but am continuing the search. Thanks for your input!
Avatar f tn I’ve also been on a ketogenic diet since July and and this week I’ve broken my diet by snacking on a few popsicles and some crackers. I’m worried this weight is going to stick around and I’m very concerned. Help! Ps. Sorry if this is TMI, but I haven’t really pooped much this week. I assumed it was because I haven’t really been eating, but could it be a contributing factor?
Tbd If you do look into ketogenic diet, do not use it as an excuse to eat too much fat; if you want to lose weight fat has to be limited to fats that come naturally with the foods that you eat, rather than lots of extra fats being added. There are now many cases where this has happened (you can look up Virta Health a company that tries to guide patients to do this), and there are also many online supportive communities.
Tbd For me, considering that diabetes is an inability of the body to properly process glucose I choose low carb / ketogenic diet. This diet is fairly easy to follow. No grains, no sugars, no starchy vegetables. There are some people for whom the low fat / high carb works. You would need to find out which suits you best and which one you can manage sustainably.
Avatar f tn t stay around, so if you stop what you were doing, which you did, they stop working, and this is also going to likely happen if you decide to return to a healthier balanced diet than high protein diets offer. I wouldn't worry about it, it's only a short-term thing most likely, but it does tell you, at some point you are going to stop this diet and return to a more normal eating pattern because we all do that, and these diets have not done well in long-term studies or for health.
20797525 tn?1510602613 m borderline diabetic, I have constant yeast infections because of high sugars, I suffer from terrible depression and anxiety and I likely have fertility issues. What suggestions can anyone give me on how to lose weight with some many uphill battles against me? Where do I start?
Avatar f tn Fad diets don't necessarily supply us with the nutrients we need. They are short-term fixes for a long-term problem. Have no idea what's happening with you, but it could be what you're eating is lacking something you need -- sometimes people who lack certain nutrients get weird cravings and odd reactions. Could also just be something completely different, could even be something psychological, as that could also be a factor in why you need to be on a diet in the first place.
Avatar f tn Your body is prone to homeostasis. The human body is a wondrous thing that will adapt to a diet, the theory being that this is what stalls weight loss for many people who follow low-calorie diets. When you decrease your calories for a low-calorie diet, your body produces hormones to regulate metabolism and lipid oxidation; this process then slows how efficiently your body burns calories.
Avatar n tn Thank you, just right now she only likes the sugar free soda offered on her diet, water not so much, or milk because I think she is sick of the whipping cream she had to drink for years.
