12584065 tn?1436320514 Bump....
688450 tn?1259468734 I wanted to know the same info when I was pregnant. I was taking Prenexa prenatals (which contains 250mg DHA) vitamins along with 2 fish oil pills daily. I read that the recommended daily amount is 300mgs, but that is conflicting as you mentioned. I think I was taking about 475mgs total daily...anyway, they say the asian culture eats tons of omega 3 fatty acids primarily from fresh fish and there has been no reportings of problems...other than very bright children : ) Which I hope I have!!
Avatar f tn Okay so my current prenatal vitamin does not have Dha in it...is it possible for me to take a Dha vitamin in conjunction with my prenatal vitamin?...if so what is a good brand to take?
Avatar n tn website and they list what vitamins are important and how much you should take of each. As long as you are meeting those guidelines, I don't see why one vitamin would be better than another...except for taste.
Avatar f tn I bought some prenatal vitamins and they came in a pack with DHA vitamins. Does anyone know what they are or if they are ok to take??
Avatar f tn Fish oil is a much better source of DHA than algae. Algae sources of DHA are many (more often than not) times treated with bleach and hexane to remove odors etc. As you know bleach is not good but Hexane is much worse. Choosing fish sources for DHA that are highly purified or come from fish at the bottom of the food chain (smaller fish don't live as long or consume other fish which are ways of becoming toxic with heavy metals like mercury) such as sardines, anchovies, and krill.
Avatar f tn Hi ladies My Doc prescribed me prenatal vitamins and prenatal vitamins with DHA. I went to the pharmacy for a refill and the pharmacist was very surprised that I am taking both vitamins. She said that they both have the same ingredients, except that the one has DHA in it. It's like I am taking double dose. Do you have any ideas if it's dangerous for my baby? I am in my 19th week. I wrote to my doc, he hasn't answered yet.
519661 tn?1264516208 It is found in fish but I hate fish so I take a pure, mercury free fish oil in the form of EPA and DHA. I began taking it again and within 2 days I felt amazingly better. Your brain is mostly made up of fat and the baby/placenta take up so much of your own nutrients while they are forming. Pregnant women are especially vulnerable to depression and mood changes if they don't have sufficient supplies of EPA/DHA in their systems.
566175 tn?1278430472 I take this two step vitamin with DHA being a second step, CVS brand. No stool softener though. I think to get a stool softener you need prescription vitamins.
467126 tn?1283144858 t be undesirable just during pregnancy, but at any time. DHA has been in use as a cosmetic ingredient in the U.S. since 1960 and no problems have ever been reported concerning DHA penetrating the skin, or causing problems during pregnancy. The reason the concern remains is that advances have been made in the cosmetic industry in developing ingredients that help other ingredients to penetrate the skin better. This applies not only to sunless tanners but moisturizers and other products.
Avatar f tn The DHA supplements r believed 2 help brain development, but they are NOT proven 2 help anything. That's what my doctor told me. I wouldn't worry so much...DHA in prenatals is a relatively new thing...take our moms 4 instance, they didn't take DHA and we're obviously fine!!
Avatar n tn Idk what is in the pills you are talking about but if it doesnt have dha/epa i would suggest going ahead and taking actual prenatal vitamins. Dha is to help with brain development.
Avatar f tn You can buy Prenatal+DHA, but regular prenatal does not have DHA in it. My doctor said DHA is very important for babies development.
1123156 tn?1338863369 Take the naturemade w/ DHA. They sell that in costco. The DHA part is important for brain development. The Expecta is too pricy and the only thing added to it is the DHA which now offered also by naturemade. Good luck!
1166767 tn?1315427171 I'm early in my pregnancy :) 5 1/2 weeks and went to the doctor last week and got a prescription for my prenatal vitamins- The DR prescribed Gesticare DHA- Even with my insuracce the co payment was $50 (for one months supply) I think this is kind of high so I'm wondering what are my other options as far as prenatal vitamins? Is it okay to take OTC prenatal vitamins? What prenatal vitamins are you taking?
Avatar n tn Mayo clinic had good info on what vitamins and how much. I found the one that was closest. It was the similac brand. Also I haven't had any morning sickness.
Avatar f tn I take a prenatal vitamin with iron and also a DHA only prenatal vitamin. I'm 8w+2d and haven't been to my first obgyn appt yet, have that at 10 weeks. Don't know if this helps, just what I decided to do.
1885735 tn?1322375616 thats pretty much what ive been hearing. ive also been hearing prenatal vitamins will do that too!! kinda nervous cause i havent been getting sick and i really dont wanna start to...
Avatar f tn I dont think mine have dha in them. I take the target generic brand prenatals with this pregnancy and did with my son and he is a happy healthy almost 3 yr old. My original obgyn with my son said any prenatal is fine and my 2nd with this pregnancy agreed but when I had an appt with a midwife she told me only dha prenatals and I needed a natural brand. Who knows?!
Avatar f tn I also take nature made with DHA. Its tasteless and a soft gel witch makes it easier to take. Back in the day they were huge and nasty.
Avatar f tn Prenatal that include DHA, DHA is really important for babies brain development. Eat as healthy as you can, lots of fruit, veggies and protein. Try to enjoy this time and not stress. Its so amazing and time will fly by. Congratulations!
657586 tn?1224587947 Not only is fish consumption controversial in pregnancy, there is also, is it ok to color your hair, is it safe to bleach your teeth, should you eat lunchmeat...I mean the list goes on and on. There are always two sides. The internet is a cesspool of opinions, incomplete studies, and hypothetical answers. One side is opposed, the other gives the green light...very confusing. As you say Germanbaby, if the benefit outweighs the risk, it's a no brainer for me.
1969424 tn?1353020641 Thank you everybody, the gummies sound good. But I just want to make sure I am getting in everything the baby(ies) need to grow strong. I hate taking pills anf right now I am taking two (prenatal and fish oil).
7062279 tn?1388370086 DHA is in fish oil, and it's for baby's brain development. Some women don't like fish, or won't eat it because they're afraid of the mercury content, but the DHA in capsure form is mercury free, and has a lot of really good benefits for you and baby (if you weren't getting DHA from the pills, or from eating lots of fish, baby would just take the DHA in your body and use that, but you use it too, so you'd be in short supply).
Avatar f tn During my second pregnancy the pills were too much for me with nausea, so I take Flinstones Complete with my oldest. He thinks its cool we are doing the same thing.
