Common Questions and Answers about Dha pregnancy development

dha

Avatar f tn Dha is really good! I specifically went to buy prenatal vitamins that included dha in them. Its omega 3 which is a fatty acid that is good for brain development and prevents neural tube defect.
Avatar f tn What are your thoughts on taking fish oil or dha supplements through the third trimester for brain development? I'm thinking of doing it, I need to speak with my OB first, but I want some opinions :) Thanks!
Avatar f tn The DHA supplements r believed 2 help brain development, but they are NOT proven 2 help anything. That's what my doctor told me. I wouldn't worry so much...DHA in prenatals is a relatively new thing...take our moms 4 instance, they didn't take DHA and we're obviously fine!!
Avatar f tn So I Bought prenatal pills and they don't have dha. So when I had my 1st Dr appt at 5 weeks he said buy dha prenatal so I have been taking them. I'm 20 weeks tomorrow and a few days ago I ran out so I been taking the prenatal pills without dha until I get paid. But I'm wondering is it even a big deal which pills i take since I'm out of 1st trimester?
Avatar n tn Idk what is in the pills you are talking about but if it doesnt have dha/epa i would suggest going ahead and taking actual prenatal vitamins. Dha is to help with brain development.
657586 tn?1224587947 s with at least 450mg of DHA, the form responsible for brain, nervous system, and eye development. DHA is ESSENTIAL for these things. As long as you are taking High quality fish oil which is low in mercury or eating fish that are low in mercury then all is fine! Eat away for the health and development of your baby!

What they fail to tell you that if you are taking these daily that you need to stop taking them at the end of your pregnancy because it prevents you from going into labor. Omega 3 are used to help prevent preterm labor, PMS menstral cramps in non pregnant women and relieve joint and prevent inflammation.
Avatar f tn I work at a health food store and New Chapter is by far the best brand of vitamin you can buy its made from all whole foods so you can take on an empty stomache and it has probiotics in it which are great for any stomache ir digestive issues you might experience through out your pregnancy.

Avatar f tn s brain development? I was told that ground flaxseed is best but other literature says that fish oil is better as it has the DHA property. Any advice???
Avatar f tn I am taking "Kind Organics" they are vegan prenatals and give you all the necessary vitamin and minerals we need
Avatar f tn When you get pregnant, your baby takes DHA from you for its development and if you dont eat a lot of fish, which is where we get it from, you could become depleted of it. Ive noticed my mood lifting.
Avatar f tn Yeah, a prenatal is rounded out and specific to what a pregnant woman needs. Id switch to just a Prenatal.
Avatar f tn s to aid in brain and eye development, and a lot of doctors recommend this. With an previous ectopic pregnancy, and being early on, it would be beneficial to get the most out of a prenatal, and not all of them contain DHA, but it is a very good thing to have.
1192727 tn?1282735542 Supplements containing EPA may not be recommended for infants or small children because they upset the balance between DHA and EPA during early development. Pregnant women should talk to their doctor before taking fish oil supplements. Fish oil capsules may cause minor side effects, such as loose stools, abdominal discomfort, and belching. In addition, they may prolong bleeding time slightly. If you take blood-thinning medication, talk to your doctor before taking fish oil.
Avatar f tn Your suppose to start before you get pregnant, but you can start any time, get a good prenatal With dha and folic acid, they help with baby eye and brain development and lowering the risk of birth defects.

Avatar f tn You can buy Prenatal+DHA, but regular prenatal does not have DHA in it. My doctor said DHA is very important for babies development.
1123156 tn?1338863369 Take the naturemade w/ DHA. They sell that in costco. The DHA part is important for brain development. The Expecta is too pricy and the only thing added to it is the DHA which now offered also by naturemade. Good luck!
Avatar f tn Because they provide DHA and Folic Acid both very vital in the growth and development of your baby throughout your pregnancy and more so in the first few weeks. And actually... prenatal vitamins should be taken by all women who are in their child baring age and take no precautions against pregnacy giving even an unexpected fetus the healthy enviornment it needs to grow.
Avatar f tn usually it is given on the 1st trimester... coz some women throw up during that time, thats the only med that doctors prescribed.. then at the 2nd trimester, you're to be prescribed prenatals.. and pregnancy milk.. coz you need calcium and iron.. plus DHA for baby's brain development...
Avatar f tn t a very good idea to ask here as we should not make recommendations on what medications are safe and good to take. What is safe for someone in their pregnancy may not be safe for another (say if you were on other meds like an anticoagulant/blood thinner) some meds can interact with one another and not have good outcomes.
Avatar f tn DHA is a kind of Omega 3 fatty acid (which is usually DHA+EPA) Omega 3 s are considered really beneficial for our brain and general health..and considered really good for fertility.. they're found in fatty fish or you can take them as supplements..
Avatar f tn I used them for my first and current pregnancy. I like them fine. I feel they have everything I need but on the nauseous days it can be hard for me to swallow the two capsules and one is double the size of the other :p I'd still recommend them.
Avatar f tn I took the Enfamil DHA & Omega- 3 supplement because it is designed for pregnant women, but I am sure that if your doc told you to take them then you are just fine. DHA/ Omega- 3 fatty acids are very important for your baby's brain development so I don't know why the pharmacist would recommend you stop taking them.
