how does provigil work

I usually take Provigil too. It isn't a miracle I'm aware of as it kicks in. It's a very subtle difference that helps me get through days with more productivity and fewer naps. That is a miracle change looking back at when I was afraid I would fall asleep at the wheel and could barely arouse a thought. I was given a free month trial of Nuvigil.

Hello. I've known for 2 years that I have MS but just decided to join this forum. It looks like a great place to be. I am wondering, does anyone else with MS take Nuvigil? If so, how do you like it? Does it work for you? I'd like to know the pro's and cons if you don't mind. Thanx!

I did pay for this first month out of pocket to see how it would work since the tx was making my life miserable. I put in an appeal to the insurance, but they way they acted on the phone, I am guessing that they will deny me again. I would recommend that anyone who is having problems like mine from the tx might want to give this drug a try. Your Dr. should be able to get a week or so in samples from the drug company for you to see if you like it.

Thanks! My biggest issue is getting through the work day too. I have researched a few things and Provigil seems to be the prefered way to go. I think I'm going to talk to my doctor about it when I go for my injection. Thanks for the info!

I am in week 42 of tx and my trial doc prescribed 100 mg of Provigil to help with my fatigue (he can't/won't prescribe procrit). My hgb was at 9.4 as of last Friday after being in the mid 10's for a while. I am sleeping "ok" at night with Ambien CR, but have been getting close to worthless (mentally and physically) as far as work goes the past few weeks. I'm wondering if this will really help or possibily aggravate my dizziness from stairs and mild exertion.

YES, it definitely will help you! I've known MS patients who are taking Provigil and they say it's a miracle drug--this doesn't mean it'll work fabulously for everyone, but it does do an amazing job of zapping excessive daytime sleepiness. I'm taking Provigil for excessive daytime sleepiness as a result of sleep apnea, and the first few months I was on Provigil I've never felt more awake in my entire life.

So now my Dr is thinking of prescribing Provigil. Has anyone tried this drug. If so does it work well for fatigue. I read that it helps with focus but I haven't read anything about it helping with tiredness.

Provigil is much safer than amphetamines. It does not carry the addiction potential. It actually does make you more wakeful, but it is a stimulant. My bp goes up slightly and at the higher doses I now feel a little zippy or pressured.

I am currently taking provigil for my fatigue. The pharmacy had to order it so I was out for a few days. During those days I have been headache free. It seems that my headache has come back since I started taking it again. It isn't as bad as a normal one but it is enough to be irritating. I am curious as to whether anyone else has had this issue and if so did it go away after a while. It has really helped the fatigue but I would hate to think that the daily headaches are back.

If a person doesn't really work off hour shifts, their doctor might not be willing to code anything that way. Besides, scripts aren't normally coded the way office visits are. False coding can be considered insurance fraud. At the very least, an insurer could demand reimbursement upon discovery of intentional miscoding. I suspect such practices will be easier to track as e-prescribing becomes standard practice and user knowledge expands.

I am back on Provigil and it is working again but not very good. I keep cutting my hours down at work because of the fatigue but it is beginning to get the best of me. What is the "Vy" drug because I know I will need something else soon. And my insurance was paying for Provigil the first time but they won't pay for it now; same company-go figure. But my doctor gave me about three months in samples and said the reps are not going to give out samples soon.

I just started taking nuvigil. Does anyone know how long before it works or if it is worth the extreme price.

I considering asking to try to generic for providing next because of the cost. The nuvigil was 700.00 hundred. Makes my co pay 180.00. If provigil does work, I would sacrifice to have nuvigal, I feel that has saved my life..

s expensive but well worth it for me because I am far more functional. I believe it keeps me able to work, and therefore able to afford it! Provigil will be available as a generic in the next year or two. I expect that's why they are introducing the upgrade to Nuvigil. I don't think it would hurt to start with 50mg but I'm not sure it will do the trick. I'm a big fan of starting out small and working up though.

How proactive does your doctor want to be on your behalf? Any drug can be waived for coverage by insurance even if it is off label use if the doctor can present the solid argument. I am currently trying flowmax for my bladder problems - it is definitely off label use for me since I am neither male nor do I have problems with my prostate. I was originally denied this drug because it is only for males but my urogyno went to bat for me and about a week later it was approved for me.

Hi, My personal battle with fatigue has been awful too but with MS, I try to take heart in knowing that it will pass, at some point, even if only for a day or two. I am ever so thankful for those days, like bliss!!! I haven't been able to get my doc to give me anything yet. I tried Provigil but doesn't work for me and since my ANS is messed up due to lesion, I can't get on anything like Kathy said that affects my heart rate.

Oh no, Provigil does not lower blood pressure. It can really spike it. I think you may have misread the posts because no one said it lowered b/p. I keep a close eye on my B/P because of the Provigil's side effect of higher pressure. Wow this is an old post! Over a year. LA M.S.

A decent GP would be the place to start ..... provigil is actually indicated for treatment of CFS .......... Its an expensive drug at 10.00 a pill prescription.....lots of insurance companies dont wish to cover it for that reason...... but it is being widely used now - - it will most likely be rescheduled before long because it has more of the shortcomings that straight amphetamines have than was thought during trials........

That's exactly how I am. I even drink a pot of coffee with my provigil and synthroid. It's still lights out after 5 hours. A 3 - 4 hour nap for me! Not good.

ve been taking Provigil for quite a while...it does seem to feel like it has no effect, but then I am doing things rather than always feeling the need to lie down where ever I am...In a couple weeks, when I see the specialist, I'm going to ask about it...

I received a letter of denial for Provigil coverage after a free week's trial (from the drug company). The Provigil made a world of difference, but is really expensive. My other option is Ritalin, and I don't like the sound of the side effects. I had no negative ones from Provigil.

For all practical purposes I have been bed ridden for the past 2 months. That is when he suggested Provigil. I have not heard of this on the forum. Anybody know anything as it relates to Hepc tx? Of course I have googled it. He made me another appointment in 4 weeks(a miracle in itself!) to see how it was working and talk more of 24 week treatment.Any comments welcome.

I was recently put on adderall to help combat some of the excessive fatigue and trouble focusing I'm having related to my disease and medications. The doc choose this med over provigil because of cost. Does anyone have experience with taking either of these for excessive fatigue or focusing issues? I'd just like to know how it worked for you.

The propanolol increases the Provigil in the blood. I only take 100 mg. of Provigil. I have tried other medicines for fatigue and they don't work for me. I don't have any adverse effect and it actually makes me feel human. Typically, the medicines used for attention deficit disorder or ADHD are used to combat fatigue.
