Common Questions and Answers about How does neurontin work

neurontin

600857 tn?1230057770 I am a pain physician and I have a mild neuropathy from a nerve injury. Neurontin and Lyrica both work at the same a2 delta subunit of the calcium channel which is important in pain transmission in nerve pain. The difference is that Neurontin has a lower binding affinity for this A2 delta subunit than does Lyrica. It has higher binding at lower doses and its binding percentage decreases at lower doses (but you still are delivered more milligrams of this medication as the dose increases).
1359227 tn?1282522148 Has anybody tried Neurontin? Does it work for nerve pain? How long does it take to take effect? My doctor prescribed it for me today...I haven't picked it up yet...I'm hoping it will help..
8496079 tn?1398412516 My question is simply, can Gabapentin (generic for Neurontin) work very fast? Has anyone else experienced the release of an amazing relief from certain parts of debilitating pain. (if not all). Has anyone experienced this from this drug? I'd very much like to know.

Avatar f tn Does anyone know if Neurontin helps alleviate symptoms of withdrawals? I've read it all over the internet that it does, but I find that hard to believe.
Avatar f tn The basic question is - How long should it take to feel relief from taking Neurontin? I have been taking 3000Mg a day for about 3 weeks now and still haven't noticed any difference. A little background. I have been doctoring since April 1st for pins & needles/numbness/tightening/pain/tingling in both hands. Also, my arms and chest feel as if I have an extremely tight shirt on. The MRI revealed a spinal cord lesion at C3.
Avatar f tn It may not work for everyone since we all respond to meds differently. By no means does it work magic but I noticed a significant difference than without it. I was still taking the amino acid protocol so I'm sure that helped also. I have read that it can be habit forming so I only used it for a couple weeks. I couldn't believe how well it helped me!
5862405 tn?1378570692 If someone has nausea as a side effect of Neurontin, does anyone how long until it subsides, or whether it does at all?
9704730 tn?1405741284 Hello I have a question about neurontin. I recently stopped taking tramadol after 13 years. I had a very difficult time doing so. I stopped Dec 6. My doctor put me on neurontin but I think I am now having withdrawal symptoms from neurontin. I have been taking about 900 mg a day since September. It gives me a lot of side effects such as drowsiness and the inability to think quickly.
Avatar f tn Has anyone had an experience with neurontin? It was prescribed for burning hands and feet and I feel very wierd and crazy..and dizzy.
Avatar f tn s not a controlled substance. Neurontin can work great for sciatic pain so hopefully it helps you get some relief.
428506 tn?1296557399 But just out of curiousity, does anyone know or have experience with how long it takes to get benefits from neurontin? My Rx says I can go up to 900 mg/day, but I may stay at 600 if I feel good with that amount. Thanks!
1207048 tn?1282174304 My doctor has suggested I try neurontin (or I guess the generic version). I'm not very fond of taking medicine (I know, I'll have to get over that real quick if I get diagnosed LOL). I will most likely try this. I think my sleep is being interrupted after a few hours sleep because I'm uncomfortable. Not in pain so much, but sore and achey.

Avatar m tn So it sounds like your MRI was pretty normal too. For muscular pain this has been bad for me as well. I first got injured by my dog pulling me forward. I just felt a pinch followed by a lot of pain the next day in the left lower back/buttock area. MRI was normal and I went to a PT and got stronger and was better but couldn't shake the pain. I have tight hamstring then and now too all on the left side. I got a cortisone shot and it only helped for two days.
Avatar f tn s an addictive drug and interferes with REM sleep and over the long term will leave you with a benzo problem and rebound insomnia. And Neurontin is very sedating. Clonazepam targets GABA receptors; neurontin is GABA. It should be better for sleep than clonazepam, but people do react differently. Anything bugging you? Ever seen a therapist to see if your sleep problem can be fixed rather than medicated?
Avatar f tn Well, I finally got my prescription filled and it is Neurontin. has anyone taken this?? I looked it up, but would love to hear from anyone who has taken it before I take it tonight. Reading about it kind of freaked me out....
Avatar m tn ve been through withdrawals without it so I know exactly how much the suck! I used neurontin and was able to go on with life. I still had the chills and some anxiety, but you was bearable. It really helped me the most with sleep. The only side effect I had from it was a tinge of a headache and a little fuzzy headed. That could have been from the withdrawals though. Neurontin was originally prescribed for siezure, bi-polar, and convulsions.
420469 tn?1217647363 I'm at my wits end and today's only the second day!! For the last...oh heck, I don't know....year, 2 years? I don't really know, but anyway....for the last long time, I've been having this burning sensation on the top of my foot. It comes on suddenly, doesn't last long (several seconds), I apply pressure (confuse the nerves theory) and it goes away.
Avatar f tn I was taking neurontin 300mg/3x a day. It was working fairly well for about 3 weeks, then started not working...they thought I needed a higher dose, but then my old doctor told me it was all in my head and took me off all meds! It did make me tired and actually made me a little depressed. So while I was taking it my doctor put me on Cymbalta to kind of counter act the depression. Which made me even more tired.
Avatar f tn My doctor gave me Neurontin for my extreme restlessness from withdrawals. I find it to be really helpful. Most of my withdrawals symptoms are shaking, RLS, and the feeling of needing to get out of my skin. The neurontin has stopped that and has even let me sleep. I was wondering if anyone knows more about this medication. I did some reading on it but someone told me that it can cause changes in personality. I asked to pharmacist and he told me that it might cause some mood changes.
382218 tn?1341181487 Does the Neurontin make you sleepy? I also take it for the pain in my feet. It doesn't make it go away but without it I would go insane. It also seem to help with my thigh muscles. They tend to work better when I take it. I only one pill 3x day because it makes me so sleepy and when the electric shocks hurt so bad and I have one toe that abosolutely is madden it feels like someone is pulling the skin down as hard as they can over the top of it. I'll then take 2 which does help.
Avatar f tn I take 300mg 3 or 4 times a day and have been at this dosage for about 9 months for bulging C6/7. I'm scheduled for surgery in a few weeks and I want to stop the neurontin. My body starts aching horribly, and my mood really goes bad if I'm late for a dose. I'm on day two of eliminating the mid day dosage and I'm doing so-so. Does anyone have any advise for me?
Avatar m tn does Hylands restful legs really help with RLS? what does it do? does it make me tired? any help please!! RLS is my worst fear when it comes to detoxing off Lortabs.
