Avatar f tn Just started prescription for lowest dose possible of thyroid medication, but was reading about the need to avoid a high fiber diet. I thought high fiber was good. Thyroid had declined since last summer when I lost my husband to cancer and had to start preparing my own meals, basically followed the Mediterranean plan with lots of salad, raw brocolli and carrots. I've used Fiber One cereal and Citrucel for several years.
Avatar f tn s about how you take your thyroid medication, and I am learning today that high fiber foods in the morning can interfere with absorbtion of replacement hormones. Like my wheat toast, and my oatmeal, and almost any cereal that I can think of. Blueberry muffins?? Coffee should be avoided the first hour or so. You can drink all the alcohol you want, as long as you don't end up on another forum from it. :o) Moderation is key for most of these things. A little won't hurt you.
Avatar n tn Try eating things high in fiber! Idk about anyone else but going to the bathroom gets difficult. I eat alot of beans which is high in fiber and iron, lentils also high in fiber and iron, I did juices as well which is a great in between meal. Juices with kale, apples blackberries, pineapple, oranges, bananas, and other berries. Berries are great antioxidants they clean the system very well.
Avatar n tn It may also help to cut down on foods that are high in fat (which slows emptying of the stomach) and foods high in fiber (which is difficult to digest). Some high-fiber foods, such as broccoli and citrus fruits, should be avoided altogether, since they are only partially digestible and will remain in the stomach. Liquid meals, which pass through the stomach more easily, may replace some meals containing solid foods. _______________ Here is some more info.

Avatar n tn You could try using beano (baking soda in cooking water can also help) when cooking high fiber foods. As your body gets used to digesting fiber the problems with gas should decrease to the point of being almost non existent. I enjoy high fiber diets because I actually love the taste of fiber rich foods such as, whole wheats/bran/fruits/veggies, making them easy for me to stick to, plus they keep you feeling full for longer.
579258 tn?1250649343 Would like to know if you add any dietary fiber? Do you obtain fiber strictly through your diet and, if so, what foods do you eat? Do you feel it is beneficial or not? Truly looking forward to your opinions. Any discussion about the pros and cons would be most appreciated.

It took 2 weeks for it to start working. I am now 26 weeks. I've gained some weight back but I still struggle with it some days. It's no where near as bad as it was in the beginning though.
