Heartburn and ovarian cancer

Common Questions and Answers about Heartburn and ovarian cancer

Avatar f tn I have a huge family history of ovarian cysts and cancer; My Mother, sisters, aunt and cousins all had cysts, Mom had ovarian cancer but they caught it early. I had emergency surgery for a ruptured ovarian cyst years ago. We were told to have a ca 125 done every 6 months, that we are high risk for ovarian cancer. The last year my health is going downhill rapidly. I thought it was just my age at first (54), but it isnt.
Avatar n tn Hi everyone. First time user. I am worried sick about ovarian cancer. About 3 months ago I got a vaginal infection of some sort and ignored it- I could feel a little cyst in the vagina and had cloudy urine. After 3 mos, I began to have a sudden urge to pee right away and could hardly hold it in. My lower back was an irritable ache. (I should say that I have been going to a physio therapist and my pelvis is out of line due to breaking a leg 3 mos ago).
506477 tn?1225518879 If you are haveing problems two months out from chemo it could be that your cancer is not platimum sensitve and might need another drug. Most fuild is stopped when the cancer is gone. I am sure your doctor is doing the right thing if he does a tap it wioll tell him if there are still cancer cells. good luck unfortunately this stuff happens.
Avatar f tn my ob dr thinks a possibility it could b cancer said i should have surgery relatively soon.....does anyone knw how fast ovarian cancer spreads? my belly is gettin alot bigger this past month and the lymph nodes..does cancer spread that fast?
120574 tn?1240771440 and typically the docs say to wait and see (i'm RN) But, the only way they can really tell that it's not cancer, is to do a laproscopy surgery and test some cells (this would also tell you what kind of ovarian cancer). The other option would be to have a PET scan. Cancer shows up as hot spots on the scan. your symptoms are the classic symptoms of ovarian cancer. don't want to scare you, but want you to make sure that if it is, you're on the way to health sooner than later!
Avatar n tn Stress like you have endured from the discovery of your cancer, the subsequent treatment, and fears over the possible return of your cancer can cause symptoms like heartburn, indigestion, and other stomach upsets. These upsets can themselves cause the entire GI system to function poorly, which in turn cause more upsets, which themselves can cause abdominal bloating.
Avatar n tn I asked her if it sounded like the cyst could be ovarian cancer and she said unlikely as it has no solid components and is hemorrhagic.
1852163 tn?1321387572 I have recently been told by OBGYN, that they found a large mass on my right ovary and will need a Hysterectomy, with the removal of ovary and falipen tubes, they also ordered a CA-125 test to be done. about 7 mths ago, I had a papsmear done, and she found a lump the size of an orange in the same place, she didnt make a big deal out of it, so I thought it was fine, then about two months later, I had an ultrasound done, again they didnt make a big deal out the cyst or whatever they found.
Avatar n tn The past two weeks I have had a strange brownish/red discharge (like the blood that comes out at the very end of your period) and some blood clots each time I go to the bathroom. I have been reading up on the symptoms of ovarian cancer, and although many of my symptoms were related to gallbladder issues, I also have read that ovarian cancer is sometimes mistaken for other digestive problems.
Avatar n tn The standard treatment for all ovarian cancer is carboplatin and taxol in one form or another.
Avatar f tn She did a very quick pelvic exam and told me that at 33 years old, it is very unlikely that I would have ovarian cancer. She had done a tubal ligation on me last year and this past Feb, she preformed emergency laparotomy surgery on me to remove an ectopic pregnancy. She said that if anything was abnormal with my ovaries, she would've seen it then. Is it possible that I simply did not have a mass at the time she was in there 7 months ago? Can tumors grow that fast?
Avatar n tn I often feel full after a few bites of food and when I do eat a full meal, my lower obdominal region gets distended. I have frequent heartburn, gas and burping. I also feel queezy, almost like I am about to vomit, but I don't. At first I thought it might be gastricparesis, where the stomache is slow to empty, but then I noticed another symptom. When I have one of these episodes, my uterus is hard as a rock.
Avatar f tn First off I have not been diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer, but have an appt. this Wednesday for a check. My history is stage 2 breast cancer (8 years ago at the age of 35)..I also had one ovary removed about 6 years ago due to a cyst that was causing non stop bleeding. I have had no period since going through chemo for breast cancer. Recently (past 5 months) I have had swelling in my stomach.

Avatar f tn I haven't met with him yet to discuss my results as this was just done a day ago. Should I be concerned? My sister in law died 4 years ago of ovarian cancer and I remember chronic heartburn as one of her symptoms. I would like to know what steps I should take in order to rule out ovarian cancer. I've read a lot about the difficulty in diagnosing this type of cancer and am concerned that if I do have it it might be too late by the time they actually diagnose.
Avatar n tn I have abdominal pressure/bloating, few bouts of nausea and heartburn (very few for only a minute), pelvic pressure, pressure on my bladder, painful intercourse. I am 37yo and have no family history of OC. My grandmother had throat/breast cancer and other grandmother had rectal cancer that spread to her female. I have a doc appt this coming Mon with my OBGYN. The thing is last year I had similar symptoms without the bloating and had a sharp pain on my right side.

Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar f tn I've also read that having hyperthyroidism can increase your risk of ovarian cancer by about 80%, which is scary. However, my numbers are under control and I've only had the disease for about five years. I plan on getting the iodine ablation over the summer. So, do I have anything to worry about, or can all of this be explained by the more common conditions that I know I have? I'm really worried, so some reassurance would be great. Just for reference, I had my period in December from Dec.
Avatar n tn Haven't been feeling well lately and went to dr for gastro issues, pain in ribs, heartburn, which i never have, back pain/achey thighs and just tired and constant BLOATING. Dr ordered a ultrasound and mri. Ultrasound of abdomin ruled out gall bladder. Mri found 2 complex cyst 1.6cm and 1.7 cm to form one complex right ovarian cyst. Additionally a small amount of free fluid. Also states....

171927 tn?1294027323 my main symptoms were pelvic pain, urinary urgency, bowel problems, bad stomach problems like heartburn and indigestion and a pain up under my ribs.
Avatar f tn hi, Relax and take some big deep breathes. Lay down and get a heating pad and clear your head. That is what I do when I feel like I am going to flip. It is easy for them to say relax and take more pills. Been there. Until they are willing to help you do what you can to help yourself. Anxiety can cause more pain. Do not listen to what people might say that will only get you more upset which I am sure it alreay had done. I am sure if they thought you had cancer they would have told you.
Avatar n tn Hi, my aunt died of ovarian cancer. About 3 months ago, I start having symptoms like lower backpain, heartburn, sudden abdomen pain. I start having diarrhoea after eating sometimes, alot of gas. My menses last only 4 days and have stomach cramp and bad backpain. So are these symptoms serious enough that I should do a CA 125 blood test. Or what should I do?
Avatar n tn My mother-in-law (78) was diagnoised 3 weeks ago with epitheal ovarian cancer. We have not found out the stage, but did learn today that a test result came back showing "Poorly differentiated carcinoma-high grade primary ovarian cancer. She had her first round of chemo 2.5 weeks ago with carboplatin.
Avatar n tn Recommend you go see OBGYN cause what you are describing sounds like Ovarian cancer symptoms..Could be a growth that is pushing on a nerve. Had similar problem, constant diahrea, lots of gas, shortness of breath...went many times to Gyno who kept sending me to other specialist (gastro, lung,) only to come back to the GYNO with Ovarian cancer. Not saying that you have it but should be elimintated as a possibility.
Avatar n tn I have had no previous history of fibroids of the uterus, and due to a history of frequent heartburn, epigsatric pain, and other GI problems, Please note I have had several colonscopies and EGD's since I was age 19 due to IBS and GERD that indicated no previous abnormalities/masses. Would you suggest I pursue ruling out ovarian cancer, colorectal cancer, or some other condition?
