Avatar n tn Hey, I am sorry to hear about your father. As you have experienced with your father, stroke is a common and a serious condition. The way that our brain reacts following a stroke is pretty much amazing. In case of your father, regaining his abilities to walk and talk is good expected. The fact that the hand is still "paralyzed" (although I won't call it paralysis) is because the upper limb's functional use in normal individuals is very complicated.

Avatar m tn Hi there, sorry to hear about the news. Be assured there would not be a danger if you wait til after the birth, I fact safer if you need RAI. Congratulations if you are pregnant :) I can't help with doctors as I am in Australia, but they are questions you should ask your endo or surgeon? I was diagnosed earlier this year with papillary thyroid also by accident and it was 6mm and also spread to a parathyroid and lymphnode.... So outside the thyroid.
Avatar m tn Independent studies show that all three definitive treatments for prostate cancer have overall, similar survival outcomes. However, as I mentioned, functional outcomes can vary widely and but are associated with the specific nature of the patients disease and surgeon experience. Results of prospective trials comparing the treatment options should hopefully be published in the coming year or two. These results should provide more insight into your question.
Avatar n tn There are a group of three pairs of muscles in the lateral neck, namely the scalenus anterior, scalenus medius, and scalenus posterior. In a forward head posture those muscles become foreshortened. The scalene muscles have an important relationship to other structures in the neck. The brachial plexus (nerves), which is responsible for cutaneous and muscular innervation of the entire upper limb, passes between the anterior and middle scalenes.

1548207 tn?1303454180 t pretend to know, but as someone who has spent three years reading everything I can, and hearing from a wide-crossection of sufferers on their cases and treatment plans, and eventual outcomes...it is an observation I have...local excisions or even biopsies done invasively may cause more inflammation and corresponding symptoms in the breast, including open sinuses, with poor wound healing - at least immediately.
Avatar f tn The tingling is provoked by neck movement and neck stiffness. I seen a neuro, she did a ton of blood work, and thoracic and another brain MRI, they were normal, theonly thing that showed was the bulging disk that my PCP sent me for, I also had a lumbar MRI, it was also normal. I tried trigger point injections, and also PT, it didn't seem to help. Everything that I have read says that the disk problem wouldn't cause the tingling in my face.
Avatar m tn Whereas in the past, the “face” of head and neck cancer was a man in his 60s with a history of heavy smoking and alcohol consumption, the men diagnosed with HPV oropharyngeal cancer do not smoke heavily and may still be in their 50s or younger, although older men are also affected. Dr. Wirth explains that HPV cancers show a specific pattern as to where they arise.

748543 tn?1463446075 If you have followed the sequence of my other blogs about TMJ pain and TMJ Disorder in general, by now you could come to the following conclusion on your own. Dentistry is closely related to the functional and dynamic systems of the body. This relation which has been termed an “Elegant Ecology” is so intertwined that discussing one without the other would be an artificial separation of anatomy and physiology.
Avatar n tn My husband had robotic prostatectomy in jan 2008 for prostate cancer and it was deemed successful as he had no need for rado or chemo therapy afterwards. However, six months later, he still seems to have incontinence as our mattress smells of urine . More troubling is the inability to resume sexual function as he cant seem to achieve an erection with me even with the help of medication. Please can you give suggestions on how I can help?
Avatar f tn The C1 / C2 vertebra (called the atlas and axis) allow rotational motion of the head. Fusion of C1/C2 will severely restrict your ability to turn your head. There are 6 cervical discs (C2-C3 to C7-T1) that allow flexion (forward bending) and extension (backward bending) of the neck. In general, whenever you fuse three discs, you tend to loose 50% of your ability to look up and down.
612551 tn?1450022175 She was in to get the port surgery checked today and when she asked they told her, as said they told her following surgery, that there may be some neck and head pain from the surgery. So that was good news, we have a reason for the neck that is healing, so it isn't some new problem. I remain optimistic and she did well on her first 6 month chemo treatment. That was followed by about 18 months with no signs of cancer, then this. It appears this is a cycle...
Avatar f tn My grandmother is 79 and her health has been going from bad to worse within the last half year. She had stopped excersizing due to a bad knee and was scheduled in for a knee replacement when she got, what she thought, was the flu. They went ahead and had the knee replacement done, but she never really managed to do a lot of rehabilitation of the knee because she had this persisent flu. The flu was paired with a loss of touch and the feeling of numbness in her left side of her face.
Avatar m tn Nasal polyps (NPs) represent a common clinical end point for a number of inflammatory disease processes involving the paranasal sinuses. Chronic rhinosinusitis is the most common cause for NPs, but not all NPs are created equally. The presence of a nasal polyp may offer the best clue as to what is happening in your nose and sinuses. Such polyps are often associated with the production of excessive mucous that leads to throat clearing.

Avatar n tn My son had similar problems with his neck and shoulder, and he is only 20 yrs. old. What I did was I took him an orthopedic specialist. He treated him conservatively with the muscle relaxers, etc. By the third visit I demanded he do an MRI to find out what's going on. He had an MRI on his neck and shoulder. They found a torn ligament in his shoulder. You really should get at the least, x-rays, but an MRI is better. You need to know what's going on.
1187071 tn?1279369698 I am not sure what I did but when I got up this morning, I turned my head and got a really bad pain in my neck and it is sharp and it goes all the way up the back up my head, and it makes my head hurt. I have never had a pain like this before and with it being my neck and head it scares me. I don't know if I should wait it out and see if it goes away or get it check out. Any advice would be great.
