Avatar f tn The CD DST (collagen gel droplet drug sensitivity test) is a method that has been used to test chemosensitivity in colorectal, lung and head/neck cancers. As far as I know, this test has not been incorporated in the treatment guidelines as a standard procedure in the management of these cancers.
Avatar m tn Mohs’ micrographic surgery might prove useful for excision of melanoma, especially lesions located on the head, neck, hands, and feet. However, there are no formal recommendations pending additional studies.4 Studies suggest that the current recommendation of 0.5-mm margins for lentigo maligna (melanoma in situ) is often insufficient. Mohs’ micrographic surgery and margin-controlled excision of lentigo maligna offer lower recurrence rates and allow tissue to be conserved." http://www.
Avatar m tn I am trying to get something in writing to show that this decision does not follow within the accepted guidelines for treatment of his form of Hepititis. I believe the Dr. in Az. may have made this decision not realizing he did not have a 12 week blood sample. My son is 43 years old and in otherwise good health. He has not had any symptoms of Hep C nor has he had any side effects from the treatments.
1084115 tn?1385228589 Stage II is what you need to get exception points to move up the transplant list, as in time liver cancer is terminal and transplant is the only cure. I will be having localized chemo treatment to reduce the size of the 1"+ in about a week. Note the treatment do not cure the patient but is used to "bridge to transplant". Make sense?
Avatar f tn I was prescribed anti-depressents which calmed me but the headaches continued. I was then sent for a MRI head and neck scan without dye which came back clear. I have also had a ct scan of bowel and several other tests which again have been ok. I am now feeling sick but my GP will not send me for any more tests. I have a fear of cancer after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer ten years ago which turned out to be a complete mistake.
5559430 tn?1369931341 I started my full load of antibiotic and natural treatment, it's been about three weeks now and for the last three to four days I have had tremendous burning in head and base of skull, and my neck is so stiff that I can't turn it from side to side. Chills on and off and fever on and off. Does this sound like a normal herx? I was diagnosed in April and had a positive IgeneX test and also looks like a positive coinfection of bartonella, possibly more, I need more testing.
Avatar n tn Lymph nodes enlarge when there is an infection. The head and neck area have an extensive network of lymph nodes. These lymph nodes function like a filter, and thus increase in size in the presence of infection to filter out organisms. Even with treatment, some lymph nodes remain enlarged. A recurrent infection would further increase the size of the lymph node. However, there are other conditions that can present with lymph node enlargement. Head and neck malignancy is an example.
621386 tn?1221532483 I wish you the best of luck and go get a head and neck cancer specialist to check you out completlyl! I would demand it we even had to travel out of our area to a cancer treatment center.
Avatar n tn There are many different tests available to try to identify cancer recurrences in the neck and elsewhere in the body such as lung or bone. One of the best and still least expensive tests is a careful physical examination by a practitioner skilled in thyroid disease. Because papillary thyroid cancer tends to spread to lymph nodes in the neck rather than other far away areas such as lung or bone, a careful physical examination can easily detect a recurrence in a neck lymph node(s).
Avatar m tn Whereas in the past, the “face” of head and neck cancer was a man in his 60s with a history of heavy smoking and alcohol consumption, the men diagnosed with HPV oropharyngeal cancer do not smoke heavily and may still be in their 50s or younger, although older men are also affected. Dr. Wirth explains that HPV cancers show a specific pattern as to where they arise.
612551 tn?1450022175 She was in to get the port surgery checked today and when she asked they told her, as said they told her following surgery, that there may be some neck and head pain from the surgery. So that was good news, we have a reason for the neck that is healing, so it isn't some new problem. I remain optimistic and she did well on her first 6 month chemo treatment. That was followed by about 18 months with no signs of cancer, then this. It appears this is a cycle...
523728 tn?1264621521 Hi, I assume that you got the chemo for the commoner epithelial type of ovarian cancer. What surgery was performed? What were the Ca 125 levels before and after chemotherapy? Did the cancer disappear completely before re-appearing? Your cancer is platinum resistant, as it came back shortly after completing platinum based treatment.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with chondrosarcoma 2 years ago. I have radioterapy in my neck and some radiation hit my face. My sinusitis crises get very worse after the radiation. It can be only a fungi or things like that? This infectious or benign things grows too or only metastatic nodules grows? The point is: The nodule aparently grows to slow for a mestastasis but to fast for a benign neoplasia. I did not know what to think!!

Avatar m tn I would recommend going to the Mayo Clinic web site and research guidelines for PSA testing. Hard to give any advice with little information to go on.

587787 tn?1218804459 Keep in mind the MRI was early in the morning, laying flat on a table with a towel roll under my neck, and a head stabilizer strapped to the back board. So I still wonder that if the headaches are worse as the day progresses, the weakness is worse, the numbness of my face, tingling of my fingers and feet.
Avatar n tn This is consistent with the Guidelines developed by the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery Foundation. The following is an abstract that explains those guidelines and provides information on the non-surgical diagnostic evaluation and treatment of chronic sinusitis. I have included the information from that document, cited below, for you to have a better understanding of chronic sinusitis and to serve as a starting point for discussions with your physician(s).
Avatar n tn Oral HPV has no preference oral or vaginal, its equally satisfied to live in either place, it loves mucosa. Testing every biopsy and reporting HPV positive or negative head and neck cancers is now standard requirement teachings hospitals, but its still relatively new. I work in a giant teaching hospital in pathology. 90% of all base of tongue and tonsil cancer are hpv. we are finding up to half of all oropharyngeal, hypopharyngeal, nasopharyngeal cancers are hpv related.

Avatar f tn The lymph nodes in my neck were enlarged while I was on treatment and the enlargement started at about the same timing as yours and it lasted all through treatment. It was mostly the nodes in the back of my neck. I also had an enlarged node in my groin but that only lasted a few days and then reduced in size...but to a slightly larger size than normal. After I ended treatment they ALL went back to normal.
