Avatar n tn 60 plus year old - if i had sex or masterbation before the psa tsst can that effect the psa number in the blood test? let's assume either having sex or masturbation for a daily period of a week before the test. seeking advise.
Avatar f tn Do you think he should get another PSA check for sure before having his rectal checked?
Avatar n tn Thanks for your response - had first visit and after exam showed nothing from "feel" and I inquired about the effect of heavy exercise and sexual activity 24 hrs prior to the last PSA we decided to do another PSA test that day. Got reults back and it was 5.3 instaed of the 6.3 before. I've read where in cancer cases this number should never go down and a "bouncing" number is more likely age and activity related. Have another consult with the doctor in 2 weeks.
Avatar n tn Now went for a 6 month check-up and found my psa is now 7.2. Dr now wants another psa test done to see why it is rising. Had a biopsy done 8 months ago and was normal. He said I will probably need a more intense biopsy done( 36 samples). I am kinda concerned about the whole ordeal. I am going to get blood work done in 2 weeks. What do you think is going on?
Avatar n tn My blood test showed high (not sure of number) PSA he had we do another blood test. that was higher than one before (again not sure of number) As first visit he starts talking about cancer. I am 52 years old with no issues that tell me I have health problems or symptoms. He never says anything about any other options or reasons. i did some research and found that if i had ejaculated within 48 hours of blood test that can elevate my PSA.
Avatar n tn I am a 54 year old man with prostate problems. In June a routine physical showed a PSA of 3.14, and high levels of white and red blood cells in urine. In late July, urine sample still same result. PSA now 5.4, free PSA <10%. Doctor put me on 1 month of antibiotics. Saw urologist mid August, who requested semen culture. Was told no prostrate infection or enlargement, but needed a biopsy.
Avatar m tn My last annual physical producd a total PSA result of 3.5. Previous annuals exam for total PSA test were 1.4, 1.8, 2.3 respectively. DRE's have all been normal. My primary care physican referred me to a Urologist who suggested and performed a biopsy. Results were negative. At a 6 month follow-up with the Urologist, my PSA was 6.2. I was put on antibiotics for two weeks and repeated the PSA after 1 month. Awaiting the results.
Avatar n tn I am a 55 year old male. In 2003, my PSA was 2.1. I went for a physical 1 month ago and my PSA was 3.6. My doctor sent me to a urologist. I had a DRE that was normal. He said my prostate was slightly enlarged - 3 fingers wide. I repeated the PSA and it is still 3.6. He wants me to have a biopsy. I don't see the need yet. I'm still in the normal range. Could I wait for 6 months and do the PSA again and see what happens.
Avatar m tn I have an enlarged prostrate and having a PSA test and digital exam every 6 months. Digital exam shows no rough spots other than prostrate is very enlarged. My last PSA level was 4.81 on 1/18/10 Previous readings were as follows 4/30/99 3.34 10/07/08 3.86 4/08/08 3.40 10/09/07 3.87 4/10/07 3.3 Should I do a biospy; and if so, how should it be intrepreted?
Avatar n tn I am 53 years old and my prostate is normal in size but my PSA test showed an elevated level of 5.7. I am a cyclist and did have sex everyday (1 week) before the test without realizing I was to abstain. Could my PSA levels be higher as a result of my activities? My doctor has arranged a biopsy for me and I am also wondering if their are alternatives other than this proceedure and what are the risks involved?
Avatar n tn My first PSA was 11.7 in Feb. Had a biopsy in March Gleason 3+4=7. My second PSA in June was 10.7. Is it normal for PSA to go down after the biospy? If in another 3 months my PSA is still going down, would that be an indication that my cancer is being fought successfully? I am taking a alternative food suplament that I have been taking from March.
Avatar m tn I am 49 years old, and I have had two PSA tests done in last a few months as part of regular check-ups. In August, my PSA (Total) and PSA (Free) were 0.9 and 0.1 respectively - resulting % Free PSA as 11%. In January, my PSA (Total) and PSA (Free) were 0.6 and 0.1 respectively, resulting % Free PSA as 17%. I believe the Total PSAs are quite in the healthy range, but in both occasions, the % Free PSA came out to be low (the normal is > 25%). Is there anything to be worried about?
Avatar m tn if so, what has your Doctor recommend regarding finding an ASAP cell? I had a second biopsy and all samples were negetive. Doctor wants to perform a PSA test in June. Last PSA was 4.43 on Oct 2010. In 2007 it was 2.62 and in 2008 it was 2.64. Actually from 2004 to 2008 my PSA has been in the mid 2's. Any info on diet or vitamin information would be of great help. Thanks. I am age 56- Don't know what to do next? Getting Depressed.
Avatar n tn s entirely possible that your BPH and inflammation alone is causing it. My doctor makes me abstain from sex for a week before testing - you probably know sex raises your PSA for a couple of days afterward. That high-grade PIN is definitely associated with PC at that 35%-rate your doctor mentioned - and still that's a minority of cases, and your free PSA is comforting, but the longer it's been since your biopsy the greater the chance that cancer has developed.
Avatar m tn Have you had a psa test performed, its a simple blood test. your prostate is connected and the ejac fluids come from your prostate, the sperm from your testicles.
Avatar m tn My psa went from 3.2 six weeks before surgery, down to 2.5 a few days before. I think the needle biopsy drops the psa #. but it's not a factor in the cancer prognosis. Good luck to you.
Avatar n tn My husband had a recent PSA test that revealed a PSA level of 5.7. He has never had an elevated PSA before. The morning of the blood test he had an extremely hard bowel movement that caused a lot of pressure in the colon and rectum. I know that a digital rectal exam can eloevate the PSA somewhat. Could having a large, hard stool also do the same? He has no symptoms of anything else. He is 65. If anyone has any knowledge on this I wouls really appreciate a reply.
Avatar m tn A culture of the expressed prostatic secretions (EPS) can help in ruling out or confirming the diagnosis. A test named as Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) test can also help as PSA is raised in Prostatis. A Urologist can diagnose the condition by digital examination. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
Avatar m tn Dear Doc, Sorry for my poor english. I'm from brazil. I'm 34 male. 1 month ago, went to a swing house, where I picked a woman. We didn't have sex, but i masturbate her and she gave me oral, besides, my penis rubed into her vagina. She hads lots of fluids, more then a woman usually has when she is arroused. 2 Days later, my urine started to burn and a little white discharge was found in my underwear. Went to the doc, he gave me Azithromicyn 1g, single dose.
Avatar n tn My husband and I think this is too long to wait, we would like a PSA test done after a month. Also this Specialist refuses to do a MRI or a Bone Scan to check for further cancer. My husband feels good except very tired and a lot less energy than what he used to have. My husband excerise all his life, did not drink or smoke and ate very healthy so this was quite a shock. If the PSA is high, he is going to do Hormone Therapy.
Avatar n tn While it is common to recommend a biopsy at a PSA of 4, a lot of men without cancer would be biopsied needlessly. Hence, the PSA derivative tests can predict how frequently an unnecessary biopsy is, to help patients and physicians decide what to do. Bear in mind that prostate cancer screening has not been shown to improve survival. Discuss the risks and benefits of screening with your doctor.
Avatar n tn my symptoms got more worse and i went to the doctor , he did a DRE and told me the size of the prostate is bigger than normal , he did a PSA test it was (1.35), and, then a transabdominal ultra sound for the pelvic area was done and the finding was *(URINARY BLADDER: Shows no stones or solid mass, with normal wall thickness ) (*(prostatic gland (prostatic gland is moderately enlarged in size, It measured (5.5 cm x5.01 cm x 3.
Avatar f tn Ive had blood test and the only thing weird was my psa was at 4.0 but i had sex before test so i retested 3 days later and it was at 2.0 and the other psa readings were normal. Avatar m tn I have an enlarged prostrate and am having a PSA test and digital exam every 6 months. Digital exam is normal other than protrate is enlarged. In January of 2010 PSA was 4.81 and retested at 3.95 in February of 2010. In June 2010 was 3.73, however in December 2010 was 4.9 and retested on Jan 6, 2011 at 4.2 On Jan. 6 2011 tested %free PSA of 26.9. Avatar m tn feb 6,2014 surgery. Davinci Robotic. Geason 3+4. Stage pT2, pN0. My 1st follow up psa March 20 <0.02; June 20, psa 0.02; September 18 psa 0.06. my concern is the obvious rise in psa. Although significantly below .2 warning level. Any thoughts on this increase and or recomendations. Thank you.
Avatar n tn If the DRE is normal but the PSA is moderately elevated, a free PSA test may be done to look at the ratio of free to total PSA. This can help to distinguish between prostate cancer and other non-cancer causes of elevated PSA. Since the total PSA test can be elevated temporarily for a variety of reasons, another PSA a few weeks after the first to determine if the PSA is still elevated. However, the decision to perform a prostate biopsy is at the discretion of the urologist.
Avatar n tn I read a lots about prostate and PSA test. As I can tell, as your age 63, PSA 1.84 (05/08) seems good (low). Your trend showed that 2006 to 2007 had a big step (0.7 to 1.79) because the velocity is 1.09, which >0.75/yr, but since that (03/08 will not count) is 1.84. I think it seems that your "new" level is about 1.8, but this new trend need to be proved - if you repeat it in a couple years, and it will stay in this level.
