1047147 tn?1328906154 Robitussin is the most common brand name, at least in the U.S., that carries a guaifenesin-only expectorant, but there are other brands and generics available. As long as the only active ingredient is guaifenesin, you can use any variety you find. For those with diabetes or otherwise concerned about sugar intake, there is the brand Diabetic Tussin available. What is the recommended dose of guaifenesin?
Avatar n tn Mentholated cough drops numb pain in the throat. They also often contain cough suppressants in addition to the oral anesthetic. Cough drops that contain dextromethorphan and guaifenesin (an expectorant) are considered safe for pregnant women to use.
Avatar f tn FDA pregnancy category C. It is not known whether dextromethorphan and guaifenesin will harm an unborn baby. Do not use this medicine without a doctor's advice if you are pregnant.
Avatar f tn Guaifenesin is pregnancy catergory C which means that it is only supposed to be taken when the benefits outway the risks.
1240856 tn?1333440354 Both EPO and guaifenesis can help with CM, just make sure you use cough medicine where guaifenesin is the only ingredient (like plain Robitussin), as some of the other ones contain ingredients that could be harmful in early pregnancy. You would take it for a few days leading up to ovulation. Good luck this month!
Avatar f tn Basically in a nut shell salicylate acid blocks guaifenesin st the renal tubule level, so while it can still decongest, the use we use it for is rendered ineffective. The same receptors that guaifenesin needs to go in at the tubules is the same that salicylate acid parks in. This happens when you apply them directly to your skin because it is directly absorbed into your blood stream like any other topical medication, hence you need far less potency since your liver is not metabolizing it.
1777912 tn?1314474892 there is a cough syrup called Robitussin (guaifenesin cough syrup) i know it sounds stupid because it is cough syrup, but as it has guaifenesin in it, it clears not only the mucas on your chest but also makes your cervical mucas thinner and runnier so the seman can swim through better. look it up on google. but make sure you get the one with guaifenesin in it as the other ones can dry up the cervical mucas . hope this helps ..
1106767 tn?1315050974 I have done some research and it appears that clomid can dry up cervical mucus in some people. But if you take robitussin that contains the ingredient (guaifenesin) only and take 1 teaspoon morning and night its supposed to help. But you only take it after your period ends and stop when you ovulate.Drinking a daily glass of grapefruit juice also helps as does eating sweet potato or yams.I am using conceive plus also which is a lubricant similar to preseed.
Avatar m tn You could also use ways of increasing cervical mucous as well such as anything with guaifenesin. Which would be Robitussin. (Just the plain kind). You should also drink a lot more water, try out some green tea and try out evening primrose oil. All of those things will improve the amount of cervical mucous which will inhance your chances of pregnancy. It'll also help your body lubricate so that everything isn't as painful. Hope this helps!

359295 tn?1285952394 And i know you cant even support a pregnancy with such a short phase. I am going to see my OB in two weeks, so i will mention all of this to him. Just wanted to get your thoughts.
Avatar f tn Hi i can confirm that the cough syrup is robitussin chesty cough medicine that contains (guaifenesin) only. Its in a red and black box.I have never noticed my cervical mucus ever before and this was my first month on clomid.I took robitussin every morning and evening (5ml dose). You only take it after AF has ended and stop when you ovulate.I drank a glass of grapefruit juice every morning as its supposed to help CM too.
Avatar n tn This helps calm the effects of allergy drainage, which can upset the stomach and cause a sore throat. The other thing I do is take 1200 mg. guaifenesin (Mucinex or generic), once in the morning and again at bedtime. This thins mucus so that it *will* drain, also allowing the throat more moisture. I have also come across mention of people using guaifenesin in their treatment of fibromyalgia (https://www.drugs.com/comments/guaifenesin/for-fibromyalgia.html).
199914 tn?1295890047 t have guaifenesin in it while is suppose to help thin out your cervical mucus so I saw that I had Mucinex D left over so I was going to try and see if that works this month. I have 5 of them so I will start taking it on the 15 and stop taking it on the 19th. But if anyone has heard of Mucinex D working in helping get pregnant let me know! Thank you for your help.
377493 tn?1356502149 Also if you do not do well with elixirs you may want to take Mucinex instead. It is Guaifenesin as well in an oral tablet form. You are supposed to use this before you ovulate and not after because Guaifenesin is thought to cross the placental barrier which means your fetus would be exposed to it. I have no clue what affect it has on the fetus. My body has always produced alot of EWCM, but I noticed when I used Guaifenesin, it increased my cervical mucus even more. I hope this helps friend.
Avatar f tn I tried clomid in Nov of last year. We had to use provera first to induce a period though. I actually got pregnant on our first round, but it ended in a tubal pregnancy. Many women believe that clomid cause tubal pregnancy, but it hasn't been "scientifically proven." I never even thought to research it before it happened so you may want to talk to your doctor about it. Also, research the side effects.
Avatar f tn Does anyone use decongestants (Guiefenesin found in cough syrup & cold meds) to help CM to be a good consistency? I heard it helps the sperm get through more easily. A friend of mine was TTC for five years and her husband had low motility. She started taking cough syrup and within 6-12 months, got pregnant and miscarried a few weeks in (in Nov.) & now is 5 weeks pregnant again and everything is looking good. I have been TTC for two years and am wondering if I should try it. Is it safe?
Avatar n tn Guaifenesin, how much is an Overdose? My daughter 11 years old 100 lbs (big for her age), took (the correct dose) 5mL cough and cold medicine that had the following in that dose. Guaifenesin, USP 100 mg, Dextromethorpan HBr, USP 10 mL. Phenylephedrine HCI, USB 5mg. But then she also took (the correct dose) 10 mg of a prescription medicine Guaifenesin-Codeine syrup (generic for Robitussin AC syrup). It doesn't state on the label the quantity of Guaifenesin mg in the 5mL dose.
2023091 tn?1334024905 ll find other people that used it will explain everything. The one ingredient in it is Guaifenesin. Try this link http://*****************/question/index?
Avatar n tn I've had asthma since I was little, and as far as I've gathered, expectorant is for non-asthmatic cough sufferers while mucolytics are for asthmatics. Is this true? What's confusing me though is why "guaifenesin", a component in one asthma pill I used to take, is used as an "expectorant", and the only OTC drug available for the purpose of easing the removal of phlegm here in the U.S.
Avatar f tn hey I need to know this answer also! I do know you only need the plain kind, nothing else should be in it just guaifenesin. If you get the one with that is mixed it can have the opposite reaction. Also you need to drink plenty of water!! YOu have to do this in order for it to work. I just started taking clomid and i read to start the guaifenesin on day 10 till ovulation. On a website for fertility i read that you need to take 200mg three times a day!
Avatar n tn The alternative is guaifenesin, which you can buy over-the-counter. Mucinex contains guaifenesin, but I would get the plain guaifenesin. It works very well.
Avatar n tn yes, well sort of. It's Guaifenesin an ingredient found in cough meds. You can usually find a store brand of robitussin that has only Guaifenesin in it. The ingredient is made to break up mucus, but if taken while you ovulate it can make your CM more compatible with sperm.
1386765 tn?1451164337 I got a cold last Halloween and then conceived in November. Unfortunately I MC in Jan. Then I got a real bad flu in March and now am 31 weeks pregnant. Which made it that I conceived right after my flu. both times I took Nyquil and tons of it. i can't say if that has any effect at all. But after reading the above post it made me wonder..
