Avatar f tn just purchased a book titled "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Fibromyalgia Fatigue", and in it the author (Dr. R. Paul St. Amand, M.D.) mentions a protocol that he himself uses, and that he also tells all of his fibro patients to try. It requires you to take upto, but not limited to 2400mg of guaifenesin (Mucinex) daily. He says that with this protocol, you will notice that your symptoms will at first become worse, but will gradually disappear.
Avatar n tn This thins mucus so that it *will* drain, also allowing the throat more moisture. I have also come across mention of people using guaifenesin in their treatment of fibromyalgia (https://www.drugs.com/comments/guaifenesin/for-fibromyalgia.html). Before I was ever diagnosed with fibromyalgia I noticed a decrease in pain that I was experiencing, so although I'm skeptical about the connection, I certainly won't discredit the possibility.
1194973 tn?1385503904 Get tested for Lyme with Igenex. Also, in the meantime get on The Guaifenesin Protocol for Fibromyalgia. Don't put up with these horrible symptoms. I am 25 years old and have been living with these awful symptoms after serious trauma age 23. Love.
Avatar n tn Can Fibromyalgia affect eye sight? My mother has fibromyalgia and is complaining that her eye sight is blurry and eyes feel strained. Closing her eyes make them feel better. We have had her eyes examined and we are told everything is fine.

Avatar f tn It may take time to establish an appropriate and effective dosage for each person. Once that is established, you should expect to ovulate 5-8 days after the last pill is taken. If you do not conceive in that cycle, AF will usually arrive three weeks after the last pill What kind of Robitussin is used to improve cervical mucus? One should buy the plain kind with no letters after it. The only active ingredient is guaifenesin, and it contains 100 mg per teaspoon.
Avatar m tn Thank you both for your replies. I don't think I'll ever know for sure whether I have Lyme or not! I have been working with a Lyme literate doctor at the Breakspear clinic just north of London, this is where I got the Igenex testing done. Unfortunately her services are very expensive and I very much doubt there are any Lyme doctors on the NHS. I will be seeking her advice again on Tuesday now that the results are back.
1047147 tn?1328906154 It is used on the fertility boards and newsgroups in the same manner as saying Band-Aid for an adhesive strip used to cover a cut. Any expectorant that contains guaifenesin as the only active ingredient is fine to use. What kind of Robitussin is used to improve cervical mucus? Avatar f tn But the fact is that this expectorant is used to loosen and thin mucus of a different kind too, called cervical mucus, in women. Robitussin is only a specific brand and any expectorant that contains guaifenesin as the only active ingredient can be used in its place. Generic versions are most likely available as well. Be sure to carefully inspect the ingredients list to make sure the ONLY active ingredient as guaifenesin. Any other ingredients can diminish the effect you are looking for.
Avatar n tn Hi All, I hope you all don't mind me posting this as I know I should see a doctor. However I'm scared and just wanting some opinions from people who know what it's like to suffer from Fibro daily. I'm a 30 yr old female who has just given birth to a beautiful baby girl 5 weeks ago. I have been suffering from a considerable amount of fatigue, muscle spasms,Painful muscle cramping and tenderness that radiates all over my body.
Avatar f tn In that case you need a mucus thinner/expectorant. Buy an over-the-counter preparation that has guaifenesin, preferably only guaifenesin. Take a tablet and drink a full glass of water. It helps greatly. In fact the worst episodes I have with asthma involve serious congestion. You can also start using natural anti-inflammatories. These help greatly and thee are no side effects. As to diet, be very careful about sweets and too much starch. These cause a proliferation of Candida albicans.
Avatar n tn Guaifenesin, how much is an Overdose? My daughter 11 years old 100 lbs (big for her age), took (the correct dose) 5mL cough and cold medicine that had the following in that dose. Guaifenesin, USP 100 mg, Dextromethorpan HBr, USP 10 mL. Phenylephedrine HCI, USB 5mg. But then she also took (the correct dose) 10 mg of a prescription medicine Guaifenesin-Codeine syrup (generic for Robitussin AC syrup). It doesn't state on the label the quantity of Guaifenesin mg in the 5mL dose.
Avatar n tn I've had asthma since I was little, and as far as I've gathered, expectorant is for non-asthmatic cough sufferers while mucolytics are for asthmatics. Is this true? What's confusing me though is why "guaifenesin", a component in one asthma pill I used to take, is used as an "expectorant", and the only OTC drug available for the purpose of easing the removal of phlegm here in the U.S.

Avatar n tn The alternative is guaifenesin, which you can buy over-the-counter. Mucinex contains guaifenesin, but I would get the plain guaifenesin. It works very well.
Avatar f tn I do know you only need the plain kind, nothing else should be in it just guaifenesin. If you get the one with that is mixed it can have the opposite reaction. Also you need to drink plenty of water!! YOu have to do this in order for it to work. I just started taking clomid and i read to start the guaifenesin on day 10 till ovulation. On a website for fertility i read that you need to take 200mg three times a day!
Avatar n tn yes, well sort of. It's Guaifenesin an ingredient found in cough meds. You can usually find a store brand of robitussin that has only Guaifenesin in it. The ingredient is made to break up mucus, but if taken while you ovulate it can make your CM more compatible with sperm.

952542 tn?1456763561 and this time im also going to have Robitussin to ensure there is no problem with my CM...now i know the dosage and all that..but for how long should i take the medicine?? till the ovulation day?? im going to start taking it the day after i'll take the last clomid pill...anyone who've used robitussin???
Avatar f tn Guaifenesin to be specific?
Avatar f tn Has anyone ever gotten guaifenesin with codeine prescribe. Want to know feed back on it I'm 12+4 days. Help please trying to get rid of this plhuem I had still. But kinda un sure.
Avatar f tn Is fibromyalgia and hypercoaguability related? I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia--(3 years ago)--but I also have a previous pulmonary embolism. The doctor who treated my P.E., said that she had to prescribe more warfarin for me than she ever had to for any other patient in her 20 year career. She specializes in treating post-operative emboli. Every week I had my blood drawn to gauge how much my warfarin dosage should be. Every week for months it was increased.
1106767 tn?1315050974 I have done some research and it appears that clomid can dry up cervical mucus in some people. But if you take robitussin that contains the ingredient (guaifenesin) only and take 1 teaspoon morning and night its supposed to help. But you only take it after your period ends and stop when you ovulate.Drinking a daily glass of grapefruit juice also helps as does eating sweet potato or yams.I am using conceive plus also which is a lubricant similar to preseed.
Avatar m tn Turns out I was allergic to the guaifenesin, which is an expectorant. I had taken cough meds before that had this ingrediant and never had a problem........so why now? Our bodies change is the answer I got from my doctor. It's possible the Nyquil contains guaifenesin and you had the same reaction I did, but your doctor can rule that in or out for you. If your reaction was worse than simple hives, I would probably be frightened as well. Did you have trouble breathing or a cardiac reaction?
