Avatar f tn Does the surgery mean that I am cured of Graves or what? Nothing I read seems to address this directly.I still suffer from the protruding eyes and tiredness. All my levels appear normal. It doesnt help that I am perimenapausal either.
1314073 tn?1282841674 I was just diagnosed with Graves Disease. I've been doing reasearch on the Internet and now I am TERRIFIED! Are my eyes going to bulge and my hair fall out? Does this happen to everyone with Graves Disease. I know this sounds vain, but fear is fear and this is all I can think about. Thanks for any help you can give me.
Avatar f tn Hi, I am a 28 year old woman and was diagnosed with graves disease 3 years ago. I have commented o many forums regarding my problem but would like your advice. I was treated with radio active iodine in 2006 and then became hypothyroid, I now take 150mg of levothyroxine daily. I have never suffered from graves opthalmology as far as i'm aware. For the last 6 months I have had a chronic daily headache. This started 3 days after purchasing new glasses.
Avatar n tn ve been having these severe migraines for over 2 months now, my eyes hurt terribly from all the pressure, im not sure if its the pressure in my nerves from all the spasms and intense pain and weakness im having in my limbs but im scared that its ocular migraines, i could not read properly with having bad pain in my head, i have graves disease but with my doctors appoinment yesterday at the endocrinologist the doc says im 'normal' when im everything but the muscle weakness is so sever i
666116 tn?1278282694 I've had the TT in January 2010 due to Graves disease and Papillary Thryoid Cancer. I was assured by my endocrinolgist and surgeon that after the surgery my Graves symptoms will not come back - and they haven't. My eye issues were minor (gritty, dry, sand in eye feeling and very little enlargement) but they have gotten much better after the surgery.
Avatar f tn did they give you the cause of the hyperthyroidism -- ie Graves (most likely) or a toxic nodule? In the USA there is a tendency to use more I-131, but in many other countries (and in our office) we often use anti-thyroid meds such as methimazole for Graves and consider surgery for treatment as well. If it is a hot nodule, then would recommend either I-131 or surgery (w/ an expert thyroid surgeon).
Avatar f tn Treatment for correction of the exophthalmos (bulging eyes) for Graves disease can be accomplished by removing the excess fatty tissue about the eyes. This should be a permanent solution for this problem.
Avatar n tn You could just be dehydrated, but my first graves symptom were dry, groopy eyes and tension in my forehead. Do you have any other symptoms? Increased appetite? Feel jumpy? Tired? Weight loss? family history of thyroid disease? You could always go see your doctor- they have simple ways of testing or just a small blood test. Have a loved one watch your eyes as you follow their finger up and down, if you eyelid lags behind the top of your eyeball it's eyelid lag and a sigh of graves disease.
371308 tn?1213832579 If Graves Disease is in your family history then it is possible that you may get this disease if you already have a thyroid problem. I have hyperthyroidism and graves disease.
Avatar f tn That is pretty much a health summary of my graves disease for the past five-six years lol. You will see the longer you have Graves Disease the more in tune with your body you become and you can tell if something is not right and you learn more about how to manage it. Also the disease itself becomes more manageable with time.
Avatar f tn Hi, i am a 29 year old female i don't have graves disease but i was born with protruding eyes i want to have orbital decompression surgery done. I have appointment to meet with a oculoplastic surgeon in my area.I hope he gives me good news and tell me that i can have the orbital decompression surgery. How much does this surgery cost or does insurance cover this surgery.
Avatar f tn Last year I was diagnosed with Graves disease and had a radioactive ablation done in April. Sometime around March of 2009, my eyelids became puffy and my eyes were usually watery. I called my Endocrinologist and asked if this was related to my thyroid and she sugg. I visit my Primary Care Dr. I did and he followed an allergy path. I finally went to an allergist who said that allergies may be playing a role, it was not the primary cause.
Avatar f tn I have had graves disease for 5-6 years now. I take one 10 mg of Methimazole at night time and that is all. I have been very stable on my medicine for years now. I have also been very lucky to not have any problems with my eyes or other symptoms of that nature. I always get concerned when thinking about pregnancy because I want to make sure it is safe for me to conceive. Also, I know that your thyroid can get worse and better during and after pregnancy.
Avatar f tn Ok..to start with , dont toy around with any meds....allow each med to get into your system (around 3 months) and take it from there. What were your last lot of elevsl and how long since RAI? The swelling around the eyeball is NOT from RAI or from the meds. It's also fairly common for your eyes to exhibit mild signs of a condition known as Graves' ophthalmopathy. In Graves' ophthalmopathy, your eyeball bulges out past its protective orbit (exophthalmos).
110220 tn?1309306861 ( symptoms) of Graves the autoimmune attacks still continue in many cases and then the cell receptor of TED is effected to create the pressure and disease in the eyes. A good opthmologist in the TED experience can provide you will that information. Another quote above on a post I wanted to also clarify is "cause i he hyper ..and 11/2 nodules..they want to give me the radiactive pill..to kill the nodules.
Avatar n tn still have the antibodies so the possibility of the eye disorder is still there because you still have your eyes.) Good Luck!!!
Avatar n tn I believe the statistic is less than 50% of those who have Graves thyroid disease develop any symptoms of Graves Eye Disease. Each is caused by different sets of antibodies. Some people get eye disease without ever having thyroid problems. And, of those with Graves/thyroid who do develop eye disease, only about 5% of those ever develop serious enough eye problems (bulging, eyelid retraction, double vision, optic nerve issues) to warrant surgery.
710534 tn?1264352757 I had a subtotal thyroidectomy at age 12, and there was no change in the Graves' Eye Disease. I've been euthyroid since age 17, when what was left of my thyroid settled itself into a normal pattern. This year (age 60), I had orbital decompression surgery, with very good results. My eyes look and feel "normal" (whatever THAT is), and the surgery itself went very well, with a fairly brief recovery period and little discomfort.
Avatar n tn If you are diagnosed with Graves, I would highly suggest an opthamologist appointment as they can take measurements of your eyes in the event things start to change. I was diagnosed in January and saw eye doctor in February. The eye involvement is called Thyroid Eye Disease (TED) and there is much info on the web. The only treatment that I know of is drops for the dry feeling and sleeping elevated at night. You can try cold compresses for the swelling.
415642 tn?1207784582 I am on medication for Graves Disease and now my eyes have headed for the worse . I think it is called Thyroid Eye Disease ? May be wrong on that. I posted the other night , but I had another question for the experts and people who have already been through this .. Does medication cure this ? Or is this going to get worse as it goes on ? My eyes are really red , running water, start to close as the sun hits them, as well as the starring thing is going on .
Avatar f tn I do feel pretty crappy though. I have tremors in my hands when I wake in the morning, my hair is getting thinner by the day and I look like a walking zombie. Doc. I need a "quick" fix...from what I am reading the treatment will take a while...
