Graves' disease is the name of the autoimmune condition that causes hyperthryoidism. It was first described by a Dr. Graves. It's what causes most hyperthyroidism. If you get the TSI test (simple blood test), they will be able to tell if you have the antibody that indicates Graves' disease. It's good to know what's causing your thyroid to be overactive.
Has your doctor told you, you have Graves Disease? Yes, your TSH is extremely low and your FT4 is extremely high, indicating that you are hyper, but your antibody tests indicate Hashimoto's. TSI is the definitive test for Graves Disease and I don't see that listed.
Have you been put on antithyroid med?
The medical community seems to be happy with treating the symptoms and not looking for the causes - big pharma would lose money if many causes for disease were found. The leading thyroid association voice for Dr's is almost invisibly owned by the makers of Synthroid (hypo T4 med). So were srcewed from the start.
Anxiety and irritability
A fine tremor of the hands or fingers
Heat sensitivity and an increase in perspiration or warm, moist skin
Weight loss, despite normal eating habits
Enlargement of the thyroid gland (goiter)
Change in menstrual cycles
Erectile dysfunction or reduced libido

Bulging eyes (Graves' ophthalmopathy)
Fatigue
Thick, red skin usually on the shins or tops of the feet (Graves' dermopathy)
Rapid or irregular heartbeat (palpitations)

my sister has hd graves disease for about a year she does not take med. right she has not gotten blood work for about four months she just keeps taking med because she has refills she is getting really crazy she thinks people are trying to kill her coul this be from graves disease

I've had both types of Hashitoxicosis. Graves causes far more intense hyperthyroid symptoms. I only had Graves antibodies for two months in my case (triggered by an extremely stressful event) but had pretibal myxedema on my shin for a year after that.

hi i'm a 28 yr old woman and have suffered badly with symptoms from graves disease for 3yrs i've been on propylthiouracil for a year now as i had a severe allergic reaction to carbimazole!
my symptoms include insomnia,severe fatigue,anxiety,bouts of depression,poor concentration,memory loss,bruising easily,dizziness,nausea and graves rage and weakened immune system (sick often). the problem is that i've recently had a blood test that read normal at 5.
I have Graves Disease, I just went off birth-control pill after 25 years of being on it. My thyroid went to hypo my TSH was over 10 and now my body feels like it is rocking back and forth? Has anyone else felt like this. It is so upsetting...

If your doctor suspects Graves, he/she can run blood tests for the antibodies that causes Graves.
Treatments for Graves include anti-thyroid medications, Radioactive Iodine, or thyroidectomy. The drugs mostly are used for up to a year, or until one of the other "permanent" treatments are used. RAI and TT both will likely render you "acquired hypothyroid" meaning you'll have to take replacement thyroid hormones daily for the rest of your life.
A low thyroid is hypothyroidism and that would cause a person to gain weight. Have you been checked for Graves disease? Graves disease causes a person to lose weight and be colder than others when cold and hotter than others when hot. Do you have any of this?
Have you had any history of anxiety before this thyroid diagnosis?

with females, hormone levels change constantly and you should get your tsh, estrogen, progesterone and testosterone levels checked in detail.
I am 32, have seen my Family Dr. I was diagnosed with graves disease. I have also seen a endocrinologist who has told me is was a goiter. Im confused, I know my thyroid is getting larger. I have several symptoms but can not get a solid answer. What is the differance between a goiter and graved disease? What are the treaments for both?
I am a 25 y/o female diagnosed with hyperthyroidism at 16 and later with Graves Disease and Goiter. I have been on Tapazol along with Atenelol (for the Tachacardia) off and on for the past 9 years with no results. Every doc I see wants to discuss nothing but RAI or surgery. My husband and I have been trying to conceive for a few years with no success. I finally found out that I was pregnant the beginning of last year and made it to 4 months and suffered a miscarriage for no apparent reason.
Something we did not expect was him having Aortic Stenosis. Graves Disease causes numerous symptoms so we thought it was the disease causing his heart problems. He just took the treatment for the Graves so it's going to be a month or so before the treatment starts to show some results. He has another test scheduled next week with an Interventional Cardiologist.
I've read alot of material on Graves Disease and Aortic Stenosis, but I have not found any material on having both diseases.
I know that Graves Disease can have symptoms that mimic psychiatric disorders (anxiety, psychosis, mania, irritability, etc...). What other physical illnesses have symptoms that mimic psychiatric illnesses? In other words, if someone suddenly begins to behave quite differently than they have in the past what ailments/illnesses/conditions/diseases should they be checked for to ensure that they have not been misdiagnosed with a psychiatric problem they do not have?
