Something we did not expect was him having Aortic Stenosis. Graves Disease causes numerous symptoms so we thought it was the disease causing his heart problems. He just took the treatment for the Graves so it's going to be a month or so before the treatment starts to show some results. He has another test scheduled next week with an Interventional Cardiologist.
I've read alot of material on Graves Disease and Aortic Stenosis, but I have not found any material on having both diseases.
The medical community seems to be happy with treating the symptoms and not looking for the causes - big pharma would lose money if many causes for disease were found. The leading thyroid association voice for Dr's is almost invisibly owned by the makers of Synthroid (hypo T4 med). So were srcewed from the start.
Graves' disease is the name of the autoimmune condition that causes hyperthryoidism. It was first described by a Dr. Graves. It's what causes most hyperthyroidism. If you get the TSI test (simple blood test), they will be able to tell if you have the antibody that indicates Graves' disease. It's good to know what's causing your thyroid to be overactive.

Has your doctor told you, you have Graves Disease? Yes, your TSH is extremely low and your FT4 is extremely high, indicating that you are hyper, but your antibody tests indicate Hashimoto's. TSI is the definitive test for Graves Disease and I don't see that listed.
Have you been put on antithyroid med?
"Hypoechoic" means it appears darker on the ultrasound than the surrounding tissue. Hypoechoic when used to describe a single thyroid nodule compared to surrounding tissues has a higher probability of being malignant, however, when the entire thyroid gland is described as hypoechoicit often indicates an inflammatory thyroid disease such as Graves or Hashimoto's.
Heterogeneous echotexture is usually found in patients with Graves or Hashimoto's as well.
I went today for a follow up ultrasound (they are watching nodules for growth)...and I have appt with the Doctor at my endocrin's ofc on 12/15...the p.a. has told me at previous appts that thryroidectomy is usually the last course of treatment and he also said they do not prescribe Armor to their patients (because it's so hard to regulate....blah blah blah)........Is it crazy for me to think that I should insist on either Armor or a thyroidectomy???
Similarly, sarcoidosis of the thyroid gland may develop in response to an established thyroid disorder including Graves’ disease, nodular goiter, and thyroid cancer. Patients with Graves’ disease may also have concomitant conditions of sarcoidosis affecting the lungs. I was diagnosed with Graves disease in 2001 and subsequently treated with radioactive iodine in 2003. Since being treated, I was placed on Synthroid. Soon after I developed the "eye stare" and moderate lid retraction bilaterally. Throughout the years, my eyes seemed to have gone back to their normal state. Approximately two years ago, my physician switched me to armour thyroid (I felt great on it).
I was disgnosed with Graves when I was 14 years old and I am now 20 years old. I had general symptoms of Graves disease such as; Heart palpatations, goiter, tremors, weight loss, and sweats of my hands. I was first put on Atentol for my heart and Methmazole twice daily for my thyroid. Within a month I was off of my heart medicine and was still on Methmazole twice daily. Then probably within 3 months I was down to the dose which I still take today, one 10mg tablet of Methmazole at bedtime.
This is a very old thread and it is not likely they will reply. So please let me try and provide some info. Are you truly symptom free? If so, why would you consider changing meds/dosages? There is an old saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." LOL
However, I would like to know your thyroid related test results and reference ranges shown on the lab report. Also what is your daily dosage of T4?
I have graves disease, but was in remission. Then I had cancer and chemotherapy. My TSH level is hyper again and my other tests normal. The doctors won't say if chemo can activate your graves disease. They do say that a physical or emotional change to my body can trigger it. My thoughts, Cancer and chemotherapy are big time physical and emotional changes.
