5747555 tn?1408727657 So I'm trying to loose weight - and trying to do something lower/better in carbs to stave off Type 2 diabetes. My doctor swears this will work. But -- where do fruits like grapes (nature's original portable snack food) fit? Are they good or bad. And if the goal is to cut carbs, then does that mean no more grapes, apples, etc? Any suggestions.
Avatar m tn We need both good carbs and good fats to survive. Simple carbs are bad, Complex carbs are good. Unsaturated fats are good. They are divided into monounsaturated fats and polyunsaturated fats. Saturated and trans fat are bad. Try not to mix or combine carbs and fats into single groups.

Avatar f tn How do you eat less carbs for breakfast? I can't seem to get away from bad carbs at breakfast.
Avatar f tn A low carb diet consists of mainly vegetables and unprocessed meats ( no hotdogs or already made things containing meat.) Things to avoid would be grains, fruits, corn, potatoes, etc. This is really hard to do because it leaves out a lot of the sugary things in your diet, that overall, people seem to crave. However, carbs aren't all bad. A lot of the energy we get for the day comes from carbs, which makes them pretty important. Too many carbs can be a problem.
3060903 tn?1398565123 Fruits contain fructose. Fructose is fruit sugar, a monosaccharide - a very simple sugar. And it is not equal to refined sugar although to diabetics fructose can produce effects similar to sugar. One medium banana [7 - 8" long], however, contains 51 grams of carbs and 28 grams of carb sugar. Carbs turn into sugar after eating. Some diabetics can tolerate this amount of carbs and carb sugars while others not.
Avatar n tn Hello, there are good carbs and bad. The good ones are the veggies and fruits, the bad are the sugary ones such as cakes, bread, and doughnuts. Cut back on the bad and go moderately on the good, this will keep you healthy and your blood sugar fairly stable.
Avatar n tn I am also a sushi lover and consider it very good for my diet. Just watch how much soy sauce you use so you aren't ingesting too much sodium. Stick to the rolls, sashimi and maki sushi plus a salad and soup and you have a great healthy meal.
793305 tn?1493925518 For some people it makes a difference if they eat simple vs complex carbs, for example whole grain breads, brown rice, etc. For some it makes no difference at all, a carb is a carb. If you are higher than you can't eat that food or at least that portion of that food.
988694 tn?1332359479 I have encountered a lot of info on the Web about if a low carb diet is good or bad for people with hypothyroidism. I realized there is a division and nobody seems to agree: For some it has been good for others it has been not. I personally lose a lot of hair when going low carb, along with other symptoms. I am now trying now to increase my intake and experimenting a little. I was wondering what your experience has been while on a low carb diet... has it done wonders for you or it hasn't?

Avatar f tn Have you been educated on diabetes control and management? I'm not talking about medication but about the lifestyle changes one must undertake in order to prevent the roller coaster glucose levels. Without knowing your background or what you're doing to control and manage your diabetes a few questions comes to mind. 1. Have you taken a diabetes class? If not check with your local hospital whether they offer one. Most do. Your doctor may know of one too.
Avatar f tn Also, watch your starches - breads, taters, etc. These turn into sugar after eating. Good carbs vs bad carbs, a simple explanation http://www.doctoroz.
1415482 tn?1459702714 I have come to grips long ago that the good in people does not weigh out the bad. The bad ways are right there on the surface, the bad ways are what they portray and that's what they should be judged by, they cannot be judged based on the good because its hidden! Everyone has BAD ways but if the good ways are what is brought out, then that's what everyone will see. You know what I find funny?
