Hey, I was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis about the 30th of april 2013. I had 3 limberpunches and a spinal tap now about 4 monts afterwards I still have lower back pain, neckstiffness and legg pain! Can anyone help pl!???
My dog was recently diganosed with bacterial meningitis following a spinal tap. We do not have the pathology report back to determine which bacteria he is infected with. He is responding to treatment. During the days before he became ill and following I had contact with my two very young nieces and nephews. Are any of us at risk? I am also scheduled to have surgery in two days and am concerned.
During the surgery I was infected with staph through the dura matter, thus resulting in my contracting bacterial meningitis. Along with the meningitis I contracted septicemia, severe sepsis, cellutis, encephalopahy, pneumonia, and toxic shock. Know, nine months later, I am still experiencing headaches, severe nightmares, flashbacks, emotional issues, etc., even though I am on an antidepressant.
CSF again showes elevated WBC, Lymphocytes, and ologinical bands. No protein, no glucose. Diagnosis is always viral meningitis with a discharge to home. Heperpes and Aids have also been negative.
Is there a chance that I could have resulting damage from viral meningitis/encephalitis, or a continued infection that has not been discovered? Also, there was a massive meningitis epidemic when I was there each time (X4) and received multiple mosquito bites even with prevention.
my 5 yr old daughter just got out of the hosp for meningitis........they could not give me a 100% answer but they are sure it was bacterial meningitis! no one told us how she got it, all they said was that i did the right thing by taking her to er asap! friday morning she told me her head hurt when she looked down and me being a nurse i thought meningitis but "what are the odds" so i took her to daycare and told them to call me if she got sick!
My 8 week old female chihuahua has been diagnosed with suspected bacterial meninjitis. I have only had her for 4 days and am extremely devestated. she is in a critical condition and is on antibiotics and fluid.She is very lethargic, vomits and cant walk. As she is soo small this is a concern. I was wondering has anyone had similar situations? How long would it take for the antibiotics to work or is it too late?
they think is meningitis not sure if it bacterial or viral but they are treating it as bacterial, he got worst last night, headaches are back had to be given very strong medication, can it be an infection from his mesh from his brain?????
That is strange that you don't know whether or not the meningitis was viral or bacterial. Did you have a lumbar puncture in the E.D.? Were you admitted into the hospital with antibiotics and IV fluids? Topamax is usually used to control seizures but I hear that they are also used for migraine. I have never taken the med myself but I did try gabapentin. It too is an anti seizure med used to control neurological pain. I suffer from Chiari malformation and other chronic pain issues.

Patients with bacterial meningitis typically show some relief 48-72 hours following initial treatment but are more likely to experience complications caused by the disease.
My aunt (68) is currently in the hospital and has been diagnosed with viral meningitis. She came down with this suddenly several days ago, and it almost immediately effected her brain to a serious extent. The hospital initially thought she had bacterial meningitis based on the severity of her symptoms and mental effects, however they have since said that they've ruled that out and she actually has viral meningitis.
It may be a good idea for your boyfriend to wake up and test his glucose levels. If his sugar levels are too high or too low, a coppery odor may be present in his sweat, and this may be the root of the problem. If this be the case, he needs to correct the glucose problem, which is dangerous to his health. If this is the odor problem, normalizing his glucose levels will stop the odor.
Ever since I finished tx I have suffered from migrains, came down with Ebstien Barr Virus, Mono and Viral meningitis. I first had viral meningitis 8 yrs ago and had it again three wks ago. I also had shingles along with it! I am convinced this is all related to my Lyme Disease. I am so scared to get viral meningitis again! Has anyone experienced this or know what this is about?
My boyfriend was in the hospital with viral meningitis in the beginning of February for 3-4 days then home off work for a week.
He's experiencing a few different things:
1. He's had 2 spinal taps prior to his hospital stay and mentions that his spine feels like it's the spine of a 90 year old. He had different levels of pain and today told me that the injection area from the taps is really bothering him. Is this normal? How long will he be having this pain?

The reason for this is that bacterial meningitis is lethal and there is no reliable way to tell if you have bacterial meningitis, a viral meningitis (due to something other than HIV - you do not have HIV) or something else (migraine headache for instance, possibly related to tension). Get checked.
As far as HIV is concerned, your risk of HIV, even before your test was very, very low. You know that from other posts you have seen in this site.

I am a 37 year old female also dealing with random severe dry eyes and the afterimage of a dull camera flash in my right corner of my eye and something smaller in my top of my left eye to the side! I ironicallyuu got a bacterial meningitis vaccine for nursing school back in August 2016. This dry eye stuff started happening around September! And the lights in my eyes started about mid November! Wish I had answers!

Meningitis can be caused by viruses, bacteria, fungi, and even as a consequence of certain medications. Bacterial meningitis and certain viral diseases can be deadly, even in people with strong immune systems but in other cases meningitis is a mild disease and may even go unnoticed and does not need any specific treatment.
Runny nose and cough can also be apart of allergy.You could just treat it with OTC anti-histamines.
the a1c is 6.2 fasting glucose was 99 and now the two hour post meal glucose was 107.....doc said he cant dx at this time because the numbers are now normal sans the a1c. he thinks the infection may have caused some small spike but not that much. i used the official nyc lab this time. i havent had time to moderate diet and excercise in just 4 days. whole thing seems odd but doc seems to think if i cut 20 pounds this goes to a normal range. we shall see!
