Normal fasting should be under a 100 (diabetic is over 126). Normal postprandial would be under 120. Just an off the cuff question about your arrythmia after meals. Avatar n tn Well, the fact that the first poster's husband did a comparison test and his number was normal at 86 would seem to indicate that the machine is NOT giving false numbers. Her blood sugar probably really IS that high, and this is extremely dangerous -- could be life-threatening. It really is imperative that she have a true lab test done to see if there really is a blood sugar problem.

The only thing I'll add is be sure to write all of your questions for your doctor down before your next appointment, so you don't forget anything you wanted to ask him/her. With pre-diabetes, diet control and weight management are crucial.
Avatar n tn Before meals, a range of 70-126 is considered normal. After meals, glucose levels up to 140-something are considered normal. Your little one was probably crying so hard when his glucose levels were low because he felt bad... when glucose levels drop below about 70, we feel pretty awful. The high reading over 200 certainly is way above where the normal level should be, so I agree that he should be checked by a pediatrician.
Avatar f tn Usually that happens if you go from one extreme to the next. You need to get those levels up to a more normal range... have you seen a dietitian? They will give you meal planning tips and show you how to schedule out your meals so your sugars don't get too high or too low.
Avatar n tn I have noticed that when glucose levels are high, it takes a little higher of an insulin/carb ratio for me to bring them down than when they are normal. I think what you are noticing is that your body is just working better with glucose levels probably normalized while you were in the hospital, and it may be taking less insulin to cause glucose levels to change than when your glucose was astronomically high.

Avatar n tn between 70-126 is the number range that many doctors use. But this is for fasting glucose levels only. After meals, it is normal for glucose levels to rise above this, and the numbers quoted as 'normal' vary, depending on which doctor you talk to. I have read that a number of about 140-150 is considered healthy for after-meal sugar levels.

Avatar n tn I mean, if a person is sensitive to insulin and only requires a small dose, then there is only a small amount of insulin working, and if a goof is made, it may not affect glucose levels very much. One unit of insulin too much or too little is probably not going to make sugar levels spike too high or too low, or at least not dangerously so. If a person takes larger doses of insulin, then there is more margin for error just because more insulin is involved.

Avatar f tn There really is a whole lot more information that would help your question make sense. I'm assuming you are diagnosed Type II diabetic? What regimen are you on? Diet and exercise? Oral meds? Insulin? You are right that 44 is much too low and 255 is much too high. Your diabetes is obviously not under control. That should be your key goal, making changes in diet, exercise and medication so that, at least most of time your glucose is in range.

If the levels tend to vary widely, this would require close monitoring and slight re-alteration in the lifestyle and insulin. Avatar n tn One last thought... some people get used to feeling the high glucose levels and find that for a period of time after going on insulin and having normal sugars again, they FEEL like they are hypoglycemic even though the numbers are normal. This is because the body has gotten used to the high sugar levels as being the norm. It may take months for the feelings of hypoglycemia to go away and for your body to adjust to being in the normal sugar range.

The fact is that most times the glucose levels are tricking the brain respitors. . .(ie: being on a sugar high) Most diabetics only feel good when glucose is high because when they are coming down they are in fact going through sugar withdrawals. 2. Oral drugs such as Metformin are generally only used as a stand alone with pre-diabetics.

Some women find their blood glucose rises considerably, while others do not notice a difference. In some women, blood glucose levels are lower before and during their periods.
