If you begin to experience unmanageable glucose levels it will take some time for glucosamine to be eliminated from your body. How long is unknown. Bottom line, talk with your doctor before taking any supplement.
Avatar f tn He may not have the enzymes to utilize the Glucosamine like he did before the gastric tube. Glucosamine Hcl is cheaper and it is harder for the body to utilize than the higher quality Glucosamine sulfate. With that being said, Glucosamine sulfate is commonly use in people who have GI problems because it helps to protect the mucus membranes and heal injuried tissue. It is a very important supplement in IBS, Chrones disease, ulcers etc., I feel really bad for you and your dad.
Avatar f tn Your mom will need to take 150mg glucosamine for the rest of her life if she has osteoarthritis. It keeps the joints and their connective tissues lubricated, as they dry up as we age. Some people respond quickly, and others feel no effect at all. There are also exercises that help. The main thing is not to let the joints seize up. Keep active.
Avatar n tn To start, you feed 2 chews in the am and 2 in the pm for one entire container. Then, taper to one chew in the am and one in the evening. He loves them and he's been normal ever since. They can get pricey, but it's worth the health for your dog. The osteo bi-flex can't be digested properly, it doesn't have the amount of vits they need, and it's just a waste of money. Use them for yourself and try they phycox. We've been using it for 2 years now.
Avatar f tn Most dogs are quite happy on these supplements with no change to their general health. They are natural substances normally produced in the body anyway, but their levels can drop in older age. I gave it to my dog and she was fine on it. I gave it to her for a few years. Her weight was 30lbs so the dose for her was 500mg Glucosamine and 200 of Chondroitin (combined in one capsule once daily with food.
675347 tn?1365460645 I read an article a few weeks ago about giving the human glucosamine to dogs, the person writing the article was not a vet but a knowledgeable expert in dog breeding. They said that the vet and pet store glucosamine is not as good because it contains a lot more salt than the human form.
Avatar n tn After reading this http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/70952.php I began taking 2 Jarrow Formulas N-A-G 750 mg every day since 5/23/2007. I've had diabetes since 1970. I saw no results the first 100 days, but in the last few weeks have seen similar result to JHA's Mom. I've always had high BSers in the morning, but it in the last couple weeks they have been low. I'm very skeptical of everything and would not want to give anybody false hope.
161647 tn?1280608163 The only thing I can think of was that my mom started taking Glucosamine last year. Can the Glucosamine affect eye vision. Or does anyone have any suggestions. My mom is worried that there is something seriously wrong because the doctor said the next step is too see a retina specialist. Thanks for any advise.
Avatar n tn I was wondering whether he needed the glucosamine/chondroitin combination because he had no digestive issues when he took Myristin -- which is a CMO(cetyl myristoleate) +glucosamine -- but the only thing is that the glucosamine dosage is much lower, the loading amount only provides 600 mg a day. Can I perhaps supplement it with additional glucosamine (no chondroitin)? Maybe the chondroitin is upsetting his stomach.
Avatar m tn 5 pound schnauzer and has been limping a bit after exercise. I have started giving her 500 mg of glucosamine a day and wanted to know if this is the right dosage?
Avatar f tn My dog weighs 29lbs. I will start him on the Glucosamine and Chondroitin and hopefully it will help him.Once again, thanks for the info.
765775 tn?1366024691 SAMe does promote energy, because it is part of the methylization process the body uses to energize the cells. MSM doesn't have this benefit, but it works just as well for inflammation. The only way you'll know if SAMe cause you anxiety is to try it and see. You're bad reaction could have been either to the sulphur, as I mentioned -- it's a common allergen -- or to the sugars in the glucomsaine. Also, glucosamine and chodroitin sulphate are also sulphur compounds.
Avatar m tn Hi Everyone, Arthritis is a condition characterized by inflammation of the joints in the body usually accompanied by pain, swelling, and stiffness. This disease is common among older people and is usually treated with anti-inflammatory drugs. I know that there is a herbal medicine that has shown effective cure for reducing joint inflammations caused by arthritis. As, I know ginger is the best herbal medicine for arthritis, the use of ginger is unknown to me.
Avatar f tn My dog is 12 year old and has arthrits and the vet told me to use glucosamine. In the summer time he does not need it. Now my dog is whimpering and shakeing, when I pet him he stops. This started a couple of days ago. The weather got really cold fast and I just started him back on glucosamine. Does this sound like the arthrits acting up or do I need to worry? How much glucosamine can I give him? I hate when my dog is in pain, I have had him since I was in kindergarden.
Avatar m tn But an analysis of studies looking at glucosamine or chondroitin for osteoarthritis in the hip or knee did not show that these supplements slow joint destruction or relieve pain. It's kind of gone by the wayside. It was found to not be the wonder supplement it was once thought to be. Multiple studies revealed that they will not help you more than a placebo. However there are still ppl that swear they help them.
Avatar m tn My dog weighed 28-30lbs and the correct dose for her was 500mg Glucosamine per day. The vet said the 'human' Glucosamine was fine to use, so long as the dosage was correct for the dog's weight. So it depends what your dog's weight is, how much you can increase the dose. As far as I can make out, dogs (and humans too) respond differently to Glucosamine. With some there are great results, and with some, not much improvement. You could mention this to your vet perhaps.
436837 tn?1293793226 Our mixed breed seems to have arthritis in the paw that had the lump we had removed. He limps when the weather changes. The vet gave us pain pills.Well I work in the medical field and interacted with another vet (Patient) who said to stop giving him the pain pills they would ruin the dogs liver.I had asked out vet about baby aspirin, he stated no it was not good for dogs. Now I am getting this information from another vet who said baby aspirin is harmless and would not hurt Lazy.
Avatar n tn I read the question & answer regarding muscle atrophy in hind legs and the information on glucosamine and the omega fatty acids. These supplements are already being administered. Additionally, I walk my dog every morning. Granted, the walks have slowed as he has aged and the distance traveled h as lessened, but he still does get excercise. He reminds me that it's time to walk and appears to enjoy it.
Avatar n tn I went to human vitamin store and got her some glucosamine supplements. I got the liquid flavored glucosamine and the glucosamine soft flavored chew. I know some cannot swallow pills. My dog eats the chews if I slightly warm them. She will not touch the liquid. I would rather put a pill in some meat or something. It is much easier for her to take. I put her back on a food with glucosamine and she isnt having any problems. I learned my lesson about changing foods.
Avatar n tn ive been giving my dog which is 17kg 1000mg of glucosamine every day for a week which i will now reduce to 500mg a day is there any thing else i should give him with this or is glucosamine alone ok my dog has early signs of arthritis in his back legs its a bit of an effort for him to get up now he is 10 yrs 3mths old and had cruciate ligament surgery back in may last yr and in the other leg about 5 to 6 yrs ago
Avatar m tn I noticed other people having issues with their body parts and doing the same thing I was doing. (pills) I never did like the pills because of the bm side effect. I never abused them, I told my doc that I didn't get that high feeling people would ask me about, he said it was because I had real pain and wasn't just abusing drugs. Anyways, my family roots have never had a habitual problem with alcohol or drugs. I feel fortunate for that.
Avatar n tn She has done really well with the insulin shots but in the past few weeks, she seemed to have a lot of pain in one of her back legs, she also had a droopy eye, but has cataracts and is almost completely blind. The vet couldn't find anything broken, but gave her a pain pill. She seemed to do a little better, but the past few days has slipped again. She whimpers in pain when she has to pull herself up to stand.
Avatar n tn The parts are just wearing out. The problem can occur anywhere there are joints in the body, which include her spine, hips, knees, ankles, feet, shoulders, elbows, wrists, and even in her tail. Lyme disease can contribute to joint pain and should be checked often and treated if necessary. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories such as Rimadyl or Previcox do help with joint pain and work to decrease inflammation which can further help to deteriorate joints.
1110049 tn?1409402144 In the British news today it says that taking Glucosamine and Chondroitin was no better than a placebo for pain of arthritis. Now I take not for pain relief, but because I thought it helped keep our joints supple and not dried out. Only last week the physiotherapist who was treating me at my local hospital told me to take 1500mg a day. I thought it was something that acted as a building block for cartilage in our joints. I assumed it would help in the long term.
