Common Questions and Answers about Glucosamine effective

glucosamine

Avatar n tn I have always fed them a really good food with the added glucosamine. I just recently changed foods to one without glucosamine. My lab started limping really bad. I went to human vitamin store and got her some glucosamine supplements. I got the liquid flavored glucosamine and the glucosamine soft flavored chew. I know some cannot swallow pills. My dog eats the chews if I slightly warm them. She will not touch the liquid. I would rather put a pill in some meat or something.

694961 tn?1228732588 vitamin c in large doses (buffered kind), msm, hyaluronic acid, and the combo of magnesium and B-1 (thiamin) can help relax muscles in the back, a little known but often effective avenue to try. i had one major success with that in someone with DDD. green-lipped mussel and all that shark cartilage is often the raw materials for glucosamine and is nothing special in my own opinion, but if it works use it.
Avatar m tn I don't use it, but my wife does. She is not HepC positive, it helps her with the arthritis she has in her knees and she doesn't get any side effects. Is it effective? Yes, without a doubt, in her case anyways. I don't see why it would be any different for a HepC person but read about it and make sure it's liver friendly.
Avatar n tn It is very common for dogs 13 years or so to have degenerative joint disease (arthritis). The parts are just wearing out. The problem can occur anywhere there are joints in the body, which include her spine, hips, knees, ankles, feet, shoulders, elbows, wrists, and even in her tail. Lyme disease can contribute to joint pain and should be checked often and treated if necessary.

Avatar n tn I have taken Glucosamine and chondroitin for joint pain and things seem to have improved overnight
Avatar n tn One that is good for joints is called Glucosamine. This is an amino acid that is naturally found in the body and sometimes the body needs a boost. Glucosamine suppliments helps increase the body's ability to produce more cartilage which in turn can help make the ankle and knee stronger. It is recommended that you add 1500mg per day for 1-2 months. This may calm the daily stress on the knee and ankle and take away some of the pain you are experiencing.
Avatar m tn The homecooked food sounds good. Maybe a slightly smaller portion each meal time? Is Gycoflex Glucosamine plus some extras? Is he on the maximum dose for his weight? Yes arthritis can be painful, but sometimes the pain can ease with gentle exercise little and often. But he will probably need some medical help for this. So get him to a vet.
Avatar m tn 5 pound schnauzer and has been limping a bit after exercise. I have started giving her 500 mg of glucosamine a day and wanted to know if this is the right dosage?
161647 tn?1280608163 The only thing I can think of was that my mom started taking Glucosamine last year. Can the Glucosamine affect eye vision. Or does anyone have any suggestions. My mom is worried that there is something seriously wrong because the doctor said the next step is too see a retina specialist. Thanks for any advise.
Avatar f tn Cystease is a product that contains 125mg of glucosamine. Renalzin is sold as a phosphate binder and according to the label to be used for feline kidney failure patients. Renalzin contains Lanthanium carbonate as the primary ingredient along with Kaolin and Vitamin E. These two products are not similar at all and should not be substituted. If your cat is not in kidney failure then Renalzin would not be indicated.
1093971 tn?1257833640 Not all glucosamine products are created equal. In order to best evaluate a product, you need to consider several things. When your healthcare and joint discomfort is at stake, take a moment and consider these criteria: What form is the glucosamine in? What is the total daily dose? Are there any other ingredients? What type is the glucosamine? How pure are the ingredients? If you’re considering taking glucosamine with chondroitin you have another ballgame.
Avatar f tn I just recently started taking glucosamine and Chondroitin to help my knee recover from a dislocated patella. but for some reason my contact lenses have become very dry is that a side effect of the glucosamine??. I have used this type of soft contacts for a long time but never experienced this problem. Thanks.
Avatar m tn My dog weighed 28-30lbs and the correct dose for her was 500mg Glucosamine per day. The vet said the 'human' Glucosamine was fine to use, so long as the dosage was correct for the dog's weight. So it depends what your dog's weight is, how much you can increase the dose. As far as I can make out, dogs (and humans too) respond differently to Glucosamine. With some there are great results, and with some, not much improvement. You could mention this to your vet perhaps.
Avatar f tn My dog is 12 year old and has arthrits and the vet told me to use glucosamine. In the summer time he does not need it. Now my dog is whimpering and shakeing, when I pet him he stops. This started a couple of days ago. The weather got really cold fast and I just started him back on glucosamine. Does this sound like the arthrits acting up or do I need to worry? How much glucosamine can I give him? I hate when my dog is in pain, I have had him since I was in kindergarden.
Avatar n tn NSAIDS (Rimadyl, Metacam, Previcox, and others), plus Tramadol, and Amantadine, and Chondroprotective agents (Glucosamine and Chondroitin combinations). Acupuncture is also very effective, as is Stem Cell therapy. She should also be checked for Lyme disease and other tick borne disease that affect joints. All her painful joints should be X-Rayed because some joints may require surgical correction or stabilization. .
Avatar f tn Diagnosis of osteoarthritis is confirmed by physical examination and X-rays of the ankle joint. Medications like glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate are being used as they are effective in reducing the pain of OA in all joints. Physical therapy plays an important role in the treatment plan of osteoarthritis. If you are not satisfied seeking second opinion will help. Do keep me posted. Take care and regards!
660872 tn?1238641245 I haven't tried it, but found chondroitin and glucosamine and/or MSM to be very helpful if you're looking at non-prescription remedies. You won't see an immediate difference and I understand these products are more for prevention than curative. If your dog has severe arthritis, you really need to get a prescription anti-inflammatory like rimadyl or deramaxx. I had two dogs who took those medications for years with absolutely no trouble.
