Glucosamine in oa

Common Questions and Answers about Glucosamine in oa

glucosamine

Avatar f tn Bone spurs develop in OA because the support of fluid between the joints is degrading so the bone ends themselves start to grow to provide the support that is being lost. That said, it "should" stop when there is enough support. Keep in mind though, I'm not a doctor, just someone with OA of the spine. You can try getting some splints to help support the joints.
Avatar m tn ve been reading for a few days now comments about OA and Fibro and actually I got a feeling of some kind relief with my pain and its toll on my body and mind. I first notice OA and found that I had it about 25 to 30 years ago. For years I just thought everybody hurt like I did, my feet would ache then my hips, wrist, shoulders. I noticed other people having issues with their body parts and doing the same thing I was doing. (pills) I never did like the pills because of the bm side effect.
Avatar n tn He sent for a course of Physiotherapy which I attended for 6months. In the end I stopped going because after the initial mild improvement in pain there was no further improvement. I am taking 1500mg Glucosamine Sulphate + 1200mg Marine Chondroitin + 1000mg Omega 3 fish oil daily. Despite this the symptoms have now spread to my right hip, right shoulder and slight symptoms in my right knee. I get some relief from taking 400mg of Ibuprofen at night so I can sleep.
Avatar f tn Medications like glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate are being used as they are effective in reducing the pain of OA in all joints. Physical therapy plays an important role in the treatment plan of osteoarthritis. If you are not satisfied seeking second opinion will help. Do keep me posted. Take care and regards!
Avatar m tn s very important to work closely with your doctor (preferably an orthopedic doc for OA) in regards to PT, medication and other therapies and also work very closely with them in monitoring when/if the pain and limitation of movement, strength, etc., interfere enough in your daily life to warrant a major surgery. It's impossible to tell you what the operation would entail as it depends on the type of operation you might need and which joint/s it encompasses. Best of luck.
1930941 tn?1400107522 Maybe I never noticed that last few years cause of the pain meds I took. But I am only 42, and now this crap. My doctor started me on Meloxicam to help remove the swelling in my joints and help with the pain. She knows full well my hx... and I know that Meloxicam is not a narcotic. Does anyone have any thoughts? This really *****..... Thanks!!
Avatar f tn I have moderate osteoarthritis in my C3/C4 vertabrae. (That's on a scale of mild-moderate-severe.) I am 33 years old! The chiropractor took the x-ray diagnosed me and said usually it's due to some trauma. I have not had a trauma. I do however have an autoimmune disorder. Elevated ana 1:1280, etc. But I'm curious I guess I find the OA in my neck puzzeling. Can it be related? I have lots and lots of other joint pain and sometimes swelling over the years.
161647 tn?1280608163 The only thing I can think of was that my mom started taking Glucosamine last year. Can the Glucosamine affect eye vision. Or does anyone have any suggestions. My mom is worried that there is something seriously wrong because the doctor said the next step is too see a retina specialist. Thanks for any advise.
Avatar n tn My dog saw a holistic vet in January for a severe ear infection, before then he was able to walk (40 min.) twice a day. He took a whole course of Baytril right before his blood test was taken and a month ago he got some antibiotic eardrop efloxacin. The vet suspected that he might have arthritis and Cushings because he was urinating more often in the evenings, had a ravenous appetite and his blood test indicated high potassium level.
877379 tn?1259664623 well I went to an OA meeting tonight and OA is not for me. I think OA is a great program for some people but I am not one of those people. I have nothing against OA but I could tell I would not work well with OA and the whole "12 Step" thing.
1093971 tn?1257833640 What form is the glucosamine in? What is the total daily dose? Are there any other ingredients? What type is the glucosamine? How pure are the ingredients? If you’re considering taking glucosamine with chondroitin you have another ballgame. Since you didn’t ask about the latter I’ll stick to glucosamine by itself. If you search the Internet you’ll see inconclusive evidence of glucosamine having negative effects on blood sugar.
Avatar m tn 5 pound schnauzer and has been limping a bit after exercise. I have started giving her 500 mg of glucosamine a day and wanted to know if this is the right dosage?

Avatar f tn I just recently started taking glucosamine and Chondroitin to help my knee recover from a dislocated patella. but for some reason my contact lenses have become very dry is that a side effect of the glucosamine??. I have used this type of soft contacts for a long time but never experienced this problem. Thanks.
Avatar f tn My dog is 12 year old and has arthrits and the vet told me to use glucosamine. In the summer time he does not need it. Now my dog is whimpering and shakeing, when I pet him he stops. This started a couple of days ago. The weather got really cold fast and I just started him back on glucosamine. Does this sound like the arthrits acting up or do I need to worry? How much glucosamine can I give him? I hate when my dog is in pain, I have had him since I was in kindergarden.
Avatar m tn My dog weighed 28-30lbs and the correct dose for her was 500mg Glucosamine per day. The vet said the 'human' Glucosamine was fine to use, so long as the dosage was correct for the dog's weight. So it depends what your dog's weight is, how much you can increase the dose. As far as I can make out, dogs (and humans too) respond differently to Glucosamine. With some there are great results, and with some, not much improvement. You could mention this to your vet perhaps.
Avatar n tn I would certainly give him a Glucosamine/Chondroitin supplement. I give my dog 500mg Glucosamine plus 200mg Chondroitin, and she weighs 28lbs. She had a broken legf years ago, and very occasionally got a twinge and a slight limp. Since starting the Glucosamine....within a few days!! she did not show any discomfort at all, and has not shown signs of twinges yet. Apparently it works better alongside vitamin C.
Avatar n tn I have always fed them a really good food with the added glucosamine. I just recently changed foods to one without glucosamine. My lab started limping really bad. I went to human vitamin store and got her some glucosamine supplements. I got the liquid flavored glucosamine and the glucosamine soft flavored chew. I know some cannot swallow pills. My dog eats the chews if I slightly warm them. She will not touch the liquid. I would rather put a pill in some meat or something.
Avatar n tn ive been giving my dog which is 17kg 1000mg of glucosamine every day for a week which i will now reduce to 500mg a day is there any thing else i should give him with this or is glucosamine alone ok my dog has early signs of arthritis in his back legs its a bit of an effort for him to get up now he is 10 yrs 3mths old and had cruciate ligament surgery back in may last yr and in the other leg about 5 to 6 yrs ago
675347 tn?1365460645 Please does anyone know the dosage of Glucosamine Sulphate for dogs? How many milligrams per pound body weight? Also, is it ok to give my dog the regular Glucosamine (which people take) as it is so much cheaper to buy that at the supermarket, than to get it from the vet, or to buy dog treats which contain it! Thanks for any help or suggestions, anyone. Ginger.
Avatar f tn hi buddy, there are still other anti-inflammitories worth trying like naprosyn and indocid. there is a topical cream called 'arthro aid direct' that is extremely good, i've used it for many years. it sinks in really deeply and is way better than all the others i've tried. it has glucosamine in it too but also other stuff, it's worth trying if you can get it over there. also you could try something like 'somac' for the NSAID tummy problems. it may help.
1110049 tn?1409402144 Glucosamine is commonly taken in combination with chondroitin, a glycosaminoglycan derived from articular cartilage. Use of complementary therapies, including glucosamine, is common in patients with osteoarthritis, and may allow for reduced doses of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents.
Avatar m tn I take a throid pill every morning. Would glucosamine Chondrotin interfer with it?
