Glucosamine for your joints

Common Questions and Answers about Glucosamine for your joints

glucosamine

Avatar f tn Your mom will need to take 150mg glucosamine for the rest of her life if she has osteoarthritis. It keeps the joints and their connective tissues lubricated, as they dry up as we age. Some people respond quickly, and others feel no effect at all. There are also exercises that help. The main thing is not to let the joints seize up. Keep active.
Avatar m tn glucosamine, with vitamin c as the two work best together, and hyaluronic acid. some do get better results from chondroitin but it is not necessary, or shark cartilage. fish/flax oil will lube 'em up for you also. froobar, C.N.
1110049 tn?1409402144 I thought it was something that acted as a building block for cartilage in our joints. I assumed it would help in the long term. For pain, I thought pain killers prescribed by doctors for arthritis was the answer. Has anyone had a doctor tell them to take glucosamine for arthritic pain?
Avatar f tn I also buy the Pedigree dog food which has one where it has glucosamine in it for healthy joints. Ofcourse ask your vet if Glucosamine would be ok for your dog to take because I don't know if hip arthritis and hip dysplasia is the same thing. I hope and pray your baby gets better.
Avatar m tn hi have a 14 yr patterdale/lakeland her joints are stiff and shaky i have been giving her adult glucosamine sulphate for a few months now but doesnt seem to be getting any better or worse should i increase the dose
1093971 tn?1257833640 If you begin to experience unmanageable glucose levels it will take some time for glucosamine to be eliminated from your body. How long is unknown. Bottom line, talk with your doctor before taking any supplement.
Avatar n tn You should also ask your vet about proper dosages of over-the-counter glucosamine, chondroiting and/or MSM. You can find these supplements already mixed together at your pet store, but it tends to be a lot cheaper to buy them at a human pharmacy. These supplements are a very effective preventive at keeping your dog's joints in good shape for a longer period of time than if you didn't use them, and will hopefully keep a possible hip surgery from being necessary.
Avatar n tn what else can i take to reduces pain, swelling, and stiffness of the joints. when meloxicam is not working.I have been tested i don't have Arthritis .
Avatar n tn It is very common for dogs 13 years or so to have degenerative joint disease (arthritis). The parts are just wearing out. The problem can occur anywhere there are joints in the body, which include her spine, hips, knees, ankles, feet, shoulders, elbows, wrists, and even in her tail. Lyme disease can contribute to joint pain and should be checked often and treated if necessary.
Avatar n tn There are many good herbs and vitamin suppliments on the market today designed to help in the management of muscles and joints. One that is good for joints is called Glucosamine. This is an amino acid that is naturally found in the body and sometimes the body needs a boost. Glucosamine suppliments helps increase the body's ability to produce more cartilage which in turn can help make the ankle and knee stronger. It is recommended that you add 1500mg per day for 1-2 months.
Avatar n tn Stick with NSAIDS and actual pain relievers prescribed by your Vet. Doctor may even decide for quality of life a low level of steroid will do best. If you want to take the diagnosis further, you will need to x-ray the SPINE and some of the affected joints. Surgery is most likely out of the question also because of the dogs age and generally in severely arthritic joints there is no surgical correction.
1295500 tn?1272459927 Hi, my questions is I have a 9 year old collie, Sheppard, husky mix dog she's probably about 90 lbs now. She seems to be having a lot of problem with her back legs. Some days she seems fine and other days she can barely get up off the floor and when she does her back legs shake. Right now what's happening is she is holding one of her legs up and walking on three legs.
Avatar f tn Do you take any supplements such at Glucosamine/Chondroitin/MSM? They work great for me. As long as I take them every single day. My bones/joints would get so back I could barely walk, and I could tell if it was going to rain anytime soon because they would hurt even more! The Glucosamine really helped! Also a good calcium supplement. If these thinks don't help over a few week period I'd talk to your Primary Dr. about other possibilities. Good luck, I hope this helped!
Avatar n tn t tried it myself yet, only because I HATE taking pills, but have heard a few success stories about Glucosamine and Chondroitin. Another thing you can do is start physical therapy. Strengthening the muscles and tendons around the joints helps to slow the degenerative changes.
Avatar n tn i do quite a lot of exercise and also have a physical job so i'm trying to look after my joints. do you think the supplements could be causing it?
1083310 tn?1260107282 Is there anything that can help your body to start making its own lubricant for your joints?
Avatar f tn Hello. First I'd like to let you know how glad I am that you have found this Forum. :) I want to be sure you know that we are all CPP (Chronic Pain Patients) and there are no Doctors on this Forum. I am so sorry that you are experiencing this pain in your knuckles. I know from personal experience just how painful, not to mention annoying this is in just trying to do your normal day to day routine. Now mine is from Osteoarthritis.
Avatar m tn if you take them at mealtime it will just act to digest the protein you just ate, whereas for antiinflammatory purposes you want it to digest the crud that forms around joints and muscles that partially cause inflammation. (Very scientific term, crud, eh? There is a word for it, but I forget what it is). A cheaper supplement you can find in any health food store is Woebenzyme, but I don't think it works quite as well, at least for me. Sells a whole lot better, though.
1110049 tn?1409402144 Thank you very much for your reply. I shall continue to take my Glucosamine with Chondroitrin. I do have MSM as well, but rarely take it. I have tried apple cider vinegar, but could not stand the taste!! I have not heard of Botwelloia Serrata. I will look into that. Taking Ibuprofen caused internal bleeding, so I keep away from that. I would rather take complementary medicine. I have read about devils claw, do you know if that has good results?
Avatar f tn The best thing you can do for her right now is get her weight down. The less weight she has for those joints the better. I obviously don't know why exercise has been impossible in the past, but don't know your situation. Also, if she is in pain already, and the vet avised to keep her still, then exercise is not advisable for now. But ideally, and if the bad pain has eased, then gentle regular walks would help. Or even walks around your house would be better than nothing.
Avatar f tn Lyme messes with your joints, often knees, sometimes hips, ankles etc. Swelling, arthritis-like symptoms. You don't want to do permanent damage to your joints, I'm sure, so take it easy on the running and yoga or swim or something else that is gentle on the joints till you're up and ... running again!
Avatar n tn I have heard many different things about glucosamine for dogs . That is is okay for your dogs, and also that it isn't. There can be many benefits to providing supplements for your dog. It can help them remain healthy and with that even happier. No one likes to deal with a grumpy dog. Can you tell me where I could find more information about glucosamine for dogs though?
441382 tn?1452810569 I had the same question a while back, in the Spring. Misty had been showing a bit of possible arthritis in her right hind leg which was broken once. I asked the vet about this because I didn't want to pay premium prices for a "pet brand" Glucosamine, and he said Glucosamine is exactly the same substance, whether it's formulated in a preparation for dogs, or people. And Chondroitin is the same. I believe they are both natural substances obtained from shellfish.
