glucosamine

Avatar n tn what else can i take to reduces pain, swelling, and stiffness of the joints. when meloxicam is not working.I have been tested i don't have Arthritis .
Avatar f tn Your mom will need to take 150mg glucosamine for the rest of her life if she has osteoarthritis. It keeps the joints and their connective tissues lubricated, as they dry up as we age. Some people respond quickly, and others feel no effect at all. There are also exercises that help. The main thing is not to let the joints seize up. Keep active.
1110049 tn?1409402144 I thought it was something that acted as a building block for cartilage in our joints. I assumed it would help in the long term. For pain, I thought pain killers prescribed by doctors for arthritis was the answer. Has anyone had a doctor tell them to take glucosamine for arthritic pain?
Avatar m tn glucosamine, with vitamin c as the two work best together, and hyaluronic acid. some do get better results from chondroitin but it is not necessary, or shark cartilage. fish/flax oil will lube 'em up for you also. froobar, C.N.
Avatar f tn I also buy the Pedigree dog food which has one where it has glucosamine in it for healthy joints. Ofcourse ask your vet if Glucosamine would be ok for your dog to take because I don't know if hip arthritis and hip dysplasia is the same thing. I hope and pray your baby gets better.
Avatar m tn My dog weighed 28-30lbs and the correct dose for her was 500mg Glucosamine per day. The vet said the 'human' Glucosamine was fine to use, so long as the dosage was correct for the dog's weight. So it depends what your dog's weight is, how much you can increase the dose. As far as I can make out, dogs (and humans too) respond differently to Glucosamine. With some there are great results, and with some, not much improvement. You could mention this to your vet perhaps.
1093971 tn?1257833640 What form is the glucosamine in? What is the total daily dose? Are there any other ingredients? What type is the glucosamine? How pure are the ingredients? If you’re considering taking glucosamine with chondroitin you have another ballgame. Since you didn’t ask about the latter I’ll stick to glucosamine by itself. If you search the Internet you’ll see inconclusive evidence of glucosamine having negative effects on blood sugar.
Avatar n tn I went to human vitamin store and got her some glucosamine supplements. I got the liquid flavored glucosamine and the glucosamine soft flavored chew. I know some cannot swallow pills. My dog eats the chews if I slightly warm them. She will not touch the liquid. I would rather put a pill in some meat or something. It is much easier for her to take. I put her back on a food with glucosamine and she isnt having any problems. I learned my lesson about changing foods.
Avatar n tn The parts are just wearing out. The problem can occur anywhere there are joints in the body, which include her spine, hips, knees, ankles, feet, shoulders, elbows, wrists, and even in her tail. Lyme disease can contribute to joint pain and should be checked often and treated if necessary. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories such as Rimadyl or Previcox do help with joint pain and work to decrease inflammation which can further help to deteriorate joints.
Avatar m tn As, I know ginger is the best herbal medicine for arthritis, the use of ginger is unknown to me. If anyone having idea on it, then please suggest me. Thanks a lot!
Avatar n tn In case you have the beginnings of arthritis it wouldn't hurt to start taking a daily dose of glucosamine with chondroitin, could stop any deterioration before it causes any pain. I take a vitamin C packet from emergen-C that has the above in and supplement with a liquid from Swanson (online vitamins). Get in the habit and hopefully you'll have healthy joints for a long time.
Avatar n tn i do quite a lot of exercise and also have a physical job so i'm trying to look after my joints. do you think the supplements could be causing it?
Avatar n tn Tick borne diseases are WAY at the bottom of the list. Glucosamine and Chondrotin are also things that have dubious effectiveness and this dog is much past help of these drugs. Stick with NSAIDS and actual pain relievers prescribed by your Vet. Doctor may even decide for quality of life a low level of steroid will do best. If you want to take the diagnosis further, you will need to x-ray the SPINE and some of the affected joints.
Avatar n tn There are many good herbs and vitamin suppliments on the market today designed to help in the management of muscles and joints. One that is good for joints is called Glucosamine. This is an amino acid that is naturally found in the body and sometimes the body needs a boost. Glucosamine suppliments helps increase the body's ability to produce more cartilage which in turn can help make the ankle and knee stronger. It is recommended that you add 1500mg per day for 1-2 months.
Avatar n tn I totally sympathize with you, I'm 50 and have basically the same symptoms. After 3 years of trial and error which included too much ibuprofen which messed up my gut I have had amazing results with some natural therapy. I discovered that the arthritis is caused by a tiny one cell organism called mycoplasma arthritides by having a live cell blood analysis. The phd who I went to told me to take Olive Leaf Extract and triple the usual dose of glucosamine.
1295500 tn?1272459927 Hi, my questions is I have a 9 year old collie, Sheppard, husky mix dog she's probably about 90 lbs now. She seems to be having a lot of problem with her back legs. Some days she seems fine and other days she can barely get up off the floor and when she does her back legs shake. Right now what's happening is she is holding one of her legs up and walking on three legs.
Avatar f tn I take Ipriflavone to build my bones as well as Calcium and D3. The Glucosamine/Chondroitin/MSM does nothing for me. But everybody and every body is different. After experimenting, I found Essiac works for me. - So, Gram551, you might find something else that works better for your body. Also, I forgot to mention that "we" need to avoid potatoes, tomatoes, mushrooms, and eggplant and any other nightshade vegetable/fruits. These cause inflammation and pain.
Avatar n tn ) and physical therapy- The pills take the edge off the pain and the therapy will (hopefully) help strenghten the muscles around my joints. Good luck!
Avatar m tn if you take them at mealtime it will just act to digest the protein you just ate, whereas for antiinflammatory purposes you want it to digest the crud that forms around joints and muscles that partially cause inflammation. (Very scientific term, crud, eh? There is a word for it, but I forget what it is). A cheaper supplement you can find in any health food store is Woebenzyme, but I don't think it works quite as well, at least for me. Sells a whole lot better, though.
Avatar f tn s exactly what happens with arthritis in my knuckles. The pain just radiates from the knuckle where I hit it. I feel so bad for you as I know how painful it is. Once you get it diagnosed then they will be able to prescribe meds that will help you with your pain and be able to give you the relief that you deserve. I wish you the very best and will be looking forward to all your updates! ........
Avatar m tn When nails are too long it can affect the whole gait, and yes, put strain on joints and ligaments. The best thing to do is not to ever let the nails get too long in future. The strain should ease up in a few days, and in the meantime, don't put him through any particularly strenuous, or athletic movements. Just gentle exercise, like walking. No agility, or leaping around if it can possibly be avoided. Then things SHOULD heal naturally, and get back to balance.
1110049 tn?1409402144 My MD said that Chondroitin and Glucosamine products seem to do better with the larger joints. I use Osteo BiFlex and it has been a life saver with my knee, but not so much with my fingers. Some of the generics for Osteo BiFlex do NOT have all of the ingredients they claim to provide, and, if that is what you are using, I would suggest going to the real thing.
Avatar f tn The best thing you can do for her right now is get her weight down. The less weight she has for those joints the better. I obviously don't know why exercise has been impossible in the past, but don't know your situation. Also, if she is in pain already, and the vet avised to keep her still, then exercise is not advisable for now. But ideally, and if the bad pain has eased, then gentle regular walks would help. Or even walks around your house would be better than nothing.
441382 tn?1452810569 I had the same question a while back, in the Spring. Misty had been showing a bit of possible arthritis in her right hind leg which was broken once. I asked the vet about this because I didn't want to pay premium prices for a "pet brand" Glucosamine, and he said Glucosamine is exactly the same substance, whether it's formulated in a preparation for dogs, or people. And Chondroitin is the same. I believe they are both natural substances obtained from shellfish.
