glucosamine

694961 tn?1228732588 I have a degeneration of the cervical discs in my spine. I am also faced with the twin dilemmas of constant pain and/or surgery. I was wondering if anyone knows of a dietary supplement that will help regenerate, or at least halt or slow down the degeneration of these discs. I have started taking glucosamine and green-lipped mussel extract, as well as fish oil.
Avatar n tn Hi, does anyone know if glucosamine helps with degenerative discs in spine? i know it helps arthritis, but I'm at my wits end with some bulging discs (l4 l5 and s1) and thought i may give it a go. Any views or would i be wasting my money?
Avatar f tn Im having pain in the L4 L5 area in my spine. It hurts to walk. Would glucosamine chondroitin help with the oain ? If so, how much do I take? What is the dosage amount ?
Avatar n tn I have heard many different things about glucosamine for dogs . That is is okay for your dogs, and also that it isn't. There can be many benefits to providing supplements for your dog. It can help them remain healthy and with that even happier. No one likes to deal with a grumpy dog. Can you tell me where I could find more information about glucosamine for dogs though?
Avatar n tn It's probably just age creeping up on him. What type of glucosamine product are you using on him? How long has he been on it? Those products don't work right away. Oftentimes you don't see any results at all for at least 30 days, and you don't get to peak performance until the pet has been taking it for six months or more. So unless he has been on the glucosamine for half a year or more, I wouldn't give up yet and say that it hasn't done much.
Avatar n tn My dog saw a holistic vet in January for a severe ear infection, before then he was able to walk (40 min.) twice a day. He took a whole course of Baytril right before his blood test was taken and a month ago he got some antibiotic eardrop efloxacin. The vet suspected that he might have arthritis and Cushings because he was urinating more often in the evenings, had a ravenous appetite and his blood test indicated high potassium level.
Avatar n tn It is very common for dogs 13 years or so to have degenerative joint disease (arthritis). The parts are just wearing out. The problem can occur anywhere there are joints in the body, which include her spine, hips, knees, ankles, feet, shoulders, elbows, wrists, and even in her tail. Lyme disease can contribute to joint pain and should be checked often and treated if necessary.
Avatar n tn Find a good chiropractor and see if it wil help. The adjusts along with the therapies they have may help a great deal. Chiropractors work on the nerves, joints, and muscles.
Avatar n tn I would see a neurosurgeon and get a thorough spine evaluation and an MRI of your whole spine. Blood tests such as ESR, uric acid and rheumatoid factor should also be done. Your pain could be from degenerative disc disease (DDD). Simple physiotherapy and taking glucosamine could be helpful while you getting these evaluations done.
Avatar f tn I am looking for natural arthritis remedies for a 10 year old chihuahua. I read somewhere that blackstrap molasses works wonders for arthritis pain in dogs. I also heard of extra virgin coconut oil and apple cider vinegar. I am really tempted to mix all these and give it a try. Has anyone tried these? or are there any other natural remedies? My dog has been on metacam but it doesn't work very well, I can tell she is still in pain.
Avatar f tn Hi! I have degenerative disc disease, which is so much different than what you are going through, but I am mentioning it because that condition is why I had to have 3 cervical discs surgically repaired because they were pressing on my spinal cord and causing numbness and alot of pain in my neck, shoulders, arms, etc. You are very young to have surgery, but I was wondering if you are having any numbness along with your pain? You know, you can see a neorosurgeon WITHOUT having to have surgery.
161647 tn?1280608163 The only thing I can think of was that my mom started taking Glucosamine last year. Can the Glucosamine affect eye vision. Or does anyone have any suggestions. My mom is worried that there is something seriously wrong because the doctor said the next step is too see a retina specialist. Thanks for any advise.
Avatar m tn 5 pound schnauzer and has been limping a bit after exercise. I have started giving her 500 mg of glucosamine a day and wanted to know if this is the right dosage?
Avatar f tn if it is ankylosing spondylitis she will live in pain for the rest of her life as her spine eventually becomes fused and almost unable to move, this will induce extreme pressure on the nerves coming out of the spine causing reffered pain all over the body... however we cant be sure...more info please?
Avatar n tn I would certainly give him a Glucosamine/Chondroitin supplement. I give my dog 500mg Glucosamine plus 200mg Chondroitin, and she weighs 28lbs. She had a broken legf years ago, and very occasionally got a twinge and a slight limp. Since starting the Glucosamine....within a few days!! she did not show any discomfort at all, and has not shown signs of twinges yet. Apparently it works better alongside vitamin C.
Avatar n tn I have osteo arthritis in my spine for which I have been diagnosed, but recently I have been experiencing extreme and chronic pain in other joints...my hips, knees, ankles mainly, I have problems getting up after crouching and feel unable to walk and stand for long periods of time...I have had blood tests and ruematoid arthritis was ruled out however the pain has been put down to the osteo arthritis maybe spreading.
1093971 tn?1257833640 Not all glucosamine products are created equal. In order to best evaluate a product, you need to consider several things. When your healthcare and joint discomfort is at stake, take a moment and consider these criteria: What form is the glucosamine in? What is the total daily dose? Are there any other ingredients? What type is the glucosamine? How pure are the ingredients? If you’re considering taking glucosamine with chondroitin you have another ballgame.
Avatar f tn but for some reason my contact lenses have become very dry is that a side effect of the glucosamine??. I have used this type of soft contacts for a long time but never experienced this problem. Thanks.
1110049 tn?1409402144 Presume this is what is known as referred pain, but I must admit I am bemused. Does glucosamine or any other supplement help with arthritis in spine? I am 69 yrs old, so know it is due to wear and tear.
Avatar f tn He may not have the enzymes to utilize the Glucosamine like he did before the gastric tube. Glucosamine Hcl is cheaper and it is harder for the body to utilize than the higher quality Glucosamine sulfate. With that being said, Glucosamine sulfate is commonly use in people who have GI problems because it helps to protect the mucus membranes and heal injuried tissue. It is a very important supplement in IBS, Chrones disease, ulcers etc., I feel really bad for you and your dad.
Avatar n tn Glucosamine is fine for dogs. There are many formulas made specifically for dogs but its often cheaper to buy the human ones. MSM is a natural anti-inflammatory that is safe and may help too. Some of the dog powders/treats etc include MSM w/the glucosamine & chondroitin or you can get it separately.
Avatar n tn NSAIDS (Rimadyl, Metacam, Previcox, and others), plus Tramadol, and Amantadine, and Chondroprotective agents (Glucosamine and Chondroitin combinations). Acupuncture is also very effective, as is Stem Cell therapy. She should also be checked for Lyme disease and other tick borne disease that affect joints. All her painful joints should be X-Rayed because some joints may require surgical correction or stabilization. .
Avatar m tn hi have a 14 yr patterdale/lakeland her joints are stiff and shaky i have been giving her adult glucosamine sulphate for a few months now but doesnt seem to be getting any better or worse should i increase the dose
Avatar n tn My vet said it was ok to get human vitamins for them. He also said it was ok to feed food with glucosamine plus the vitamins.
