Glucosamine for broken bones

Common Questions and Answers about Glucosamine for broken bones

Avatar f tn Do you take any supplements such at Glucosamine/Chondroitin/MSM? They work great for me. As long as I take them every single day. My bones/joints would get so back I could barely walk, and I could tell if it was going to rain anytime soon because they would hurt even more! The Glucosamine really helped! Also a good calcium supplement. If these thinks don't help over a few week period I'd talk to your Primary Dr. about other possibilities. Good luck, I hope this helped!
675347 tn?1365460645 Please does anyone know the dosage of Glucosamine Sulphate for dogs? How many milligrams per pound body weight? Also, is it ok to give my dog the regular Glucosamine (which people take) as it is so much cheaper to buy that at the supermarket, than to get it from the vet, or to buy dog treats which contain it! Thanks for any help or suggestions, anyone. Ginger.
Avatar f tn Hi thanks for your information it was very interesting, My specialist had mentioned i may need a bone grafts in time and maybe later on hip replacments (which i dont want) i was surprised by the % that it happens to, i have now started taking fish oil and glucosamine for pain instead of tramadol, codeine etc so will see how it goes before i see specialist at end of month, my endrocrine specialist is waiting blood test results (wher they spin and seperate red/white blood cells) as she think it ma
351404 tn?1299489130 Here in UK they are saying that calcium supplements double the risk of heart attack. Would glucosamine sulphate, currently taken by so many for healhy joints, be considered such a supplement? I can't ascertain whether these are two different supplements.
Avatar n tn Margaret - You probably should not be feeding those to your dogs because they are not made for dogs. Admittedly, I tried that avenue once because it was cheaper than the "made for dogs" chondroiten and glucosamine that's recommended for larger dogs. It didn't produce any positive effects after one entire bottle so then, we tried arthritus meds. My american bull was experiencing a slight limp. The meds didn't do anything! Finally, I tried Phycox chews.
Avatar m tn I totally agree with Karla. Stop the Ibuprofen straight away. And a trip to the vet to get her arthritis managed is a good idea. Also, a Glucosamine and Chondroitin supplement might help her a lot. They certainly help my dog, I can vouch for that. She has been on them now for 2 years. She used to limp very slightly on a back leg which was once broken when she was younger.
Avatar n tn I have heard many different things about glucosamine for dogs . That is is okay for your dogs, and also that it isn't. There can be many benefits to providing supplements for your dog. It can help them remain healthy and with that even happier. No one likes to deal with a grumpy dog. Can you tell me where I could find more information about glucosamine for dogs though?
441382 tn?1452810569 I had the same question a while back, in the Spring. Misty had been showing a bit of possible arthritis in her right hind leg which was broken once. I asked the vet about this because I didn't want to pay premium prices for a "pet brand" Glucosamine, and he said Glucosamine is exactly the same substance, whether it's formulated in a preparation for dogs, or people. And Chondroitin is the same. I believe they are both natural substances obtained from shellfish.
558059 tn?1288550944 Hi I have a 8 1/2 year old GSPointer . On recent visit to vets I was advised to put her on Glucosamine & Chrondrotin . She has been on them for 6 weeks now but I haven't noticed any improvement in her general movements. Is it advisable to keep her on these tablets now that I have started. Also could cod liver oil be of benefit to her? She is not good at taking these tablets but loves the c of o capsules!
Avatar f tn Homeopathy would be a better choice for the older animal, since Rhus Tox can give wonderful results for these symptoms
Avatar n tn my left leg tibia and fibula both broken in an accideent about 8 and half months ago. fracture has alaready healed. in surgery external fixators were applied, wiring was done by making holes in the bone. while boring, drill machine was moved in a bigger diameter makeing a wound which was also burnt. this wound still not healed. a very little drop of pus ozzes...
Avatar m tn I find taking chondroitin + glucosamine tablets twice a day, provide invaluable relief for my osteoarthritic knuckles (for a year I'd been using anti-inflammatory salve twice a day but was on the lookout for something else as I don't like the concept of long term anti-inflammatory use). I found a research study that seemed extremely promising and was pleasantly surprised to find I enjoyed appreciable pain relief after merely 2-3 days of starting the pills.
Avatar n tn All species have the ability to heal their broken bones with the proper stabelization, and depending on the type of fracture. Most local zoo's and wildlife rehabilitators have veterinarians that treat their animals. Call a zoo or wildlife rehabilitator to see if they can help.
Avatar n tn Other than that, I take a multi-vitamin, extra vit-c, citri-cal calcium, vit-b, omegas, glucosamine and condritin, and an herbal remedy for ovairian cysts called DonQui. I sometimes also take white willow bark for pain, either in capsul form or as a hot tea beverage.
Avatar f tn Thank you for your comment. I do also want to have more children. Have you been told of any possible issues going into a second c/s? Best of luck!
20898027 tn?1590467808 Magnesium can relax muscles if you have cramping problems, and along with calcium it helps build strong bones, but you are talking about something else here. If you don't need surgery, you should probably get yourself sent to physical therapy to see if they can help with it. The best way to take it is with a meal. The citrate form is good because it adds acid, but there are several forms considered well absorbed. The one to most avoid is the oxide form.
Avatar m tn I had awful bone pain when I was on Neupogen. I've always contended for me, the side effects from Neupogen were as bad if not worse than those from antiviral therapy. It stimulates the colonies of white stem cells within the bone marrow causing the level of neutrophils in the blood to rise. It is common to have aching bones and joints for 2-3 days duration starting 1-2 days after the start of the injections.
3763041 tn?1354906251 Thanks ladies! It ***** so bad, and I don't even want to tell my doc cause i'm supposed to be off my feet not running into walls and breaking them lol. Oops!
Avatar n tn Now 10 years later, I have it in both shoulders, and pain when I walk, in my left arch and right ankle. Once my ring finger knuckle hurt for a year. The doc said the X-Ray showed no knuckle between the finger bones. Is this a case of disappearing joints? I've tried glucosamine chondroitin and shark cartilage but I can't see any noticeable improvements. Is there any way to resolve (aside from pain killers and drugs that have unknown or risky side affects)?
694961 tn?1228732588 vitamin c in large doses (buffered kind), msm, hyaluronic acid, and the combo of magnesium and B-1 (thiamin) can help relax muscles in the back, a little known but often effective avenue to try. i had one major success with that in someone with DDD. green-lipped mussel and all that shark cartilage is often the raw materials for glucosamine and is nothing special in my own opinion, but if it works use it.
