Glucosamine dosage for humans

Common Questions and Answers about Glucosamine dosage for humans

glucosamine

Avatar m tn My dog weighed 28-30lbs and the correct dose for her was 500mg Glucosamine per day. The vet said the 'human' Glucosamine was fine to use, so long as the dosage was correct for the dog's weight. So it depends what your dog's weight is, how much you can increase the dose. As far as I can make out, dogs (and humans too) respond differently to Glucosamine. With some there are great results, and with some, not much improvement. You could mention this to your vet perhaps.
Avatar m tn I am not sure of the dosage. I'm sure you could call your Vet and ask for a good brand and dosage.
436837 tn?1293793226 I use ordinary supplements in capsule form, on sale for Humans. They are cheaper. But I get the exact dosage for her weight. She weighs 28lbs and gets 500mg Glucosamine, and 200mg Chondrotin daily. That's the max. dose for her weight.
441382 tn?1452810569 I had the same question a while back, in the Spring. Misty had been showing a bit of possible arthritis in her right hind leg which was broken once. I asked the vet about this because I didn't want to pay premium prices for a "pet brand" Glucosamine, and he said Glucosamine is exactly the same substance, whether it's formulated in a preparation for dogs, or people. And Chondroitin is the same. I believe they are both natural substances obtained from shellfish.
Avatar m tn Right now I am actually giving him tablets for humans. It is important that the dosage is correct for the dog. The popular one for dogs is Cosequin or Cosequin DS. This can be confirmed by your vet and he/she may even have additional information.
Avatar f tn Try avocado soybean unsaponifiables formulated specifically for cats. (They also make them for humans.) I don't have any particular recommendation for a brand, but one is called Dasuquin. Ask your vet about this approach.
558059 tn?1288550944 I'm surprised Glucosamine/Chondrotin didn't seem to work for her. Are you using the right dosage? I give my dog (who weighs 28lbs) 500mg Glucosamine, and 200mg Chondrotin every day without fail. (So you could calculate the correct dosage for your dog's weight, from that.) In her case she had an intermittent limp in her right leg, which was a throwback from a broken leg about 6 years ago. As soon as I started her on the supplement, after about 5 days (!
1388999 tn?1370042814 From what I can tell, one level scoop of powder would probably be the equivalent to slightly more than the cosaquin for dog dosage of 3 tablets for 50-100lb dogs. You may want to try adding MSM, its a natural anti-inflammatory and pain reliever. You can give capsules, powder or there are a variety of treats on the market containing it as well. I take it and so does my 13yr old Pumpkin.
675347 tn?1365460645 Please does anyone know the dosage of Glucosamine Sulphate for dogs? How many milligrams per pound body weight? Also, is it ok to give my dog the regular Glucosamine (which people take) as it is so much cheaper to buy that at the supermarket, than to get it from the vet, or to buy dog treats which contain it! Thanks for any help or suggestions, anyone. Ginger.
2121656 tn?1395674749 s in there. Thanks for the tip about giving her glucosamine and chondroitin for humans, I never knew that and not sure if what the Vet ordered her at time of surgery is for humans. She's so so stubborn. I'm guess I'll have to try somehow to get it down her. Thanks so much for your quick response and I will definitely keep you posted.
Avatar n tn I have heard many different things about glucosamine for dogs . That is is okay for your dogs, and also that it isn't. There can be many benefits to providing supplements for your dog. It can help them remain healthy and with that even happier. No one likes to deal with a grumpy dog. Can you tell me where I could find more information about glucosamine for dogs though?
Avatar n tn s advice about this, and about the correct dosage (I would give her the maximum for her weight.) But ask advice first.
Avatar n tn I was wondering whether he needed the glucosamine/chondroitin combination because he had no digestive issues when he took Myristin -- which is a CMO(cetyl myristoleate) +glucosamine -- but the only thing is that the glucosamine dosage is much lower, the loading amount only provides 600 mg a day. Can I perhaps supplement it with additional glucosamine (no chondroitin)? Maybe the chondroitin is upsetting his stomach.
Avatar m tn When nails are too long it can affect the whole gait, and yes, put strain on joints and ligaments. The best thing to do is not to ever let the nails get too long in future. The strain should ease up in a few days, and in the meantime, don't put him through any particularly strenuous, or athletic movements. Just gentle exercise, like walking. No agility, or leaping around if it can possibly be avoided. Then things SHOULD heal naturally, and get back to balance.
1083310 tn?1260107282 Glucosamine and chondroitin fall into the category of a slow acting disease modifying osteoarthritic drugs and can be taken for arthritis and consult for proper dosage with your orthopedician. You also have hyaluronic acid for viscosupplementation which can be directly injected into the joint. Take care!
Avatar f tn Im having pain in the L4 L5 area in my spine. It hurts to walk. Would glucosamine chondroitin help with the oain ? If so, how much do I take? What is the dosage amount ?
Avatar f tn I asked my vet about this, and he said the veterinary one contains exactly the same substance as the ones for humans. So now I buy human ones for my dog. She weighs 28lbs, and her dosage is 1 capsule per day (which is 500mg Glucosamine, and 200mg Chondroitin. So you could work out the dose for your dog's weight...
