Avatar n tn I have been taking a multivitamin, vitamin c, fish oil, and glucosamine on a daily basis. I also have been taking an amino acid supplement called MAP, which contains all the amino acids. I lift weights twice a week and do cardio 3 times a week. My doctor said to drop all supplements for 2 weeks, and then get my blood tested again, that the supplements, especially the amino acids, could be causing the problem.
Avatar m tn Is that total cholesterol? If so, take a look at the HDL, LDL and Triglycerides individually, and see what they are. As noted above, total cholesterol is a calculation of all three. And as goolarra said, it's more important raise HDL than to lower LDL. Do you have tests for the active thyroid hormones, Free T3 and Free T4? Those are so much more important than TSH.

Avatar f tn Evidence from several studies has suggested that amounts of DHA and EPA in the form of fish or fish oil supplements lowers triglycerides, slows the buildup of atherosclerotic plaques ("hardening of the arteries"), lowers blood pressure slightly, as well as reduces the risk of death, heart attack, dangerous abnormal heart rhythms, and strokes in people with known heart disease. However, high doses may have harmful effects, such as an increased risk of bleeding.

Avatar m tn Joint pain Glucosamine, a building block of cartilage, can relieve pain and inflammation in joints, says Nicholas DiNubile, M.D., an orthopedic surgeon. In fact, a recent study found glucosamine is more effective than acetaminophen (a.k.a. Tylenol) at relieving symptoms of knee osteoarthritis, often caused in younger men by joint injury.
Avatar n tn I'm a 31 year old male in otherwise perfect health who learned while taking a life insurance blood test that my LDL cholesterol was 171 (triglycerides and HDL are normal). Admittedly, for years (since high school/college), I ate way too much fat (red meat, eggs, etc.). I am 5'11 and 170 lbs, and my resulting BMI (24.9) does not indicate that I am clinically overweight. I mean until now I never ate fruit or the right kind of grains.

Avatar m tn I would blame the large number of drugs that I take, but I have been taking them for a long time and this is new. I am a 50 year old woman, and both my mother and my sister have had several heart attacks and my mother had a stroke. My sister had her first heart attack (of 9) at age 45, so when I started to show symptoms I wanted to treat it aggressively, and fortunately I stumbled onto a wonderful cardiologist who was willing to hear me and investigate.
Avatar n tn I do admit feeling alot better, my saliva doesnt taste as bitter in the mornings, and my liver is not aching anymore (only if i sit for hrs in front of the pc will it become sore, but it may have to do with posture more than anything else) Also on a good note, my knee seems to be responding to the 1500mg of glucosamine. I feel quite distinctly like my knee is getting stronger and better supported. It feels rigid and not loose as before.

Moderate Exercise - Moderately overweight. 175 to 170 on 5'6 large boned frame (hands the size of most basketball players - large hips - large ribcage and shoulders) I've been living on 800 mg Advil 3 - 4x daily for the last 3 months. It works - but isn't quite cutting it.
Avatar n tn I had a sore throat with swollen white tonsils, and all the normal mono symptoms and then some. Severe fatigue, headaches, fever, muscle aches chills. I also had pain in my right side which at the time I thought was pain form an enlarged spleen. Not realizing that the spleen is on the left side. Later I began having the pain on my left side which I then found out was the location of the spleen. I also developed severe back pain at some point which I later realized was my kidneys.
Avatar n tn You need to continue the medication for couple of weeks as advised by your doctor and try to avoid trigger factors like alcohol, smoking and stress. It is better to consult a neurologist and get evaluated. Take care and updated on your thoughts and progress.
