Avatar f tn Can an hbv patient take glucosamine and chondroitine supplement for knee pain and effusion.
1110049 tn?1409402144 In the British news today it says that taking Glucosamine and Chondroitin was no better than a placebo for pain of arthritis. Now I take not for pain relief, but because I thought it helped keep our joints supple and not dried out. Only last week the physiotherapist who was treating me at my local hospital told me to take 1500mg a day. I thought it was something that acted as a building block for cartilage in our joints. I assumed it would help in the long term.
Avatar m tn Hi there! I'm a 28 year old male, and I have a question about NSAIDs for chronic pain. I use ibuprofen daily most of the time for a torn meniscus in my left knee that I had surgery on and I have arthritis too. I also take it for a herniated disc (L-5) and ankle pain. I have acid reflux disease and esophagus problems as well. Is it safe to take all this Ibuprofen with the stomach problems I have, or should I talk to my Dr. about possibly prescribing another medication?
Avatar n tn NSAIDS (Rimadyl, Metacam, Previcox, and others), plus Tramadol, and Amantadine, and Chondroprotective agents (Glucosamine and Chondroitin combinations). Acupuncture is also very effective, as is Stem Cell therapy. She should also be checked for Lyme disease and other tick borne disease that affect joints. All her painful joints should be X-Rayed because some joints may require surgical correction or stabilization. .
Avatar n tn Other medications such as Tramadol work with NSAIDS to help make them even more effective. Nutraceuticals such as glucosamine (which she is already taking) and Omega 3 Fatty acids also help adjunctively. Acupuncture either as a solo treatment or as another adjunct is also valuable for arthritis, as are Chinese Herbal Formula's for arthritis and pain.
Avatar n tn if the pain is in your groin and radiates down to the knee it's probably arthritis. if it's in the side it could be trochanteric bursitis or IT band inflammation, or maybe piriformes syndrome. if it's in the rear and radiates down the back of the leg, it could be sciatic pain or pain from a pinched nerve in the back. have you had xrays? or seen anyone for it? you could try NSAIDs and PT to see if that helps.
Avatar f tn I was on twice a day anti-inflammatory salve (diclofenac) for my knuckles for a year, and then tried chondroitin and glucosamine capsules [based on my finding an excellent double blind study testing them against a placebo].
Avatar f tn I have had joint, knee, and back pain off and on and used NSAIDS. I recently had total collapse of my left foot, (PTTD) and have done some research to find if this is related to AS. In your experience, do you find ankle/foot disorders and wrist disorders common with AS? I am an RN with 32 years at the bedside, now finding myself unable to tolerate walking or standing for any period of time. The rheumatologist I am seeing, has alluded to my SI joints not being involved, so I do not have AS.
1093971 tn?1257833640 What form is the glucosamine in? What is the total daily dose? Are there any other ingredients? What type is the glucosamine? How pure are the ingredients? If you’re considering taking glucosamine with chondroitin you have another ballgame. Since you didn’t ask about the latter I’ll stick to glucosamine by itself. If you search the Internet you’ll see inconclusive evidence of glucosamine having negative effects on blood sugar.
Avatar f tn I just recently started taking glucosamine and Chondroitin to help my knee recover from a dislocated patella. but for some reason my contact lenses have become very dry is that a side effect of the glucosamine??. I have used this type of soft contacts for a long time but never experienced this problem. Thanks.
689367 tn?1227469139 I have also been told that glucosamine (Joint supplements) is not good for your eyes and could elevate pressure. How true is that?
Avatar n tn ginger and glucosamine sulfate will affect coumadin (warfarin) I'm on warfarin and can't take ginger or glucosamine and a host of other supplements.
Avatar n tn Your vet will want to do routine blood work to make sure his liver and kidneys can handle this medication, and again in 2 weeks, if your dog is on this chronically (after that, 1-2X/year). Hopefully you'll notice an immediate improvement with the NSAID - I know my 11 year old dog has a spring in his step after he gets his! Best of luck with your ole' guy - hopefully this will help! Dr.
Avatar f tn What you CAN do is to start giving him a glucosamine and chondroitin supplement. These have been proven to be of great help to arthritic dogs with an occasional dose of enteric coated aspirin to help them over the rough spots. Please let us know what your vet says.
Avatar f tn This type of arthritis is not hereditary but is associated with osteoarthritis. Usually treatment is NSAIDs, cortisone injections and reducing pain inducing activities. For many people, the standard treatment provides relief during flares. If you're not getting relief with the standard protocol and the doc still does not want to do surgery, it will be time to get a second opinion. Hang in there. I know it is tough!
Avatar f tn m on Long term Dis. and switching now would be more stress and I would have to fill out a ton of paper work explaining why, which could back up my payments. I see my GP this week, and going to find a solution, I am also going to tell her how annoyed I am at my shrink assuming it's "all in my head". I could say a bunch of expletives lol..
Avatar f tn If you wish to try it make sure you are not allergic to shell fish (glucosamine) or MSM (from pine tree bark) or Arnica ( arnica montana flower). You can buy MSM and arnica lotions separately and there is a glucosamine product that is made from corn but it is expensive. I am also taking vitamins which seems to be helping too.
1388999 tn?1370042814 that leg a bit in cold damp weather) So I started her straight away on the maximum dosage for her weight of both Glucosamine and Chondroitin (That is 500mg Glucosamine and 200mg Chondroitin for her weight which is 28lbs) I asked the vet could I use Human grade pills. He said yes the substances are exactly the same. The human ones are much cheaper than veterinary ones! So I bought a huge pack of the pills at reduced price for bulk buy.
1232362 tn?1333135406 I looked up the Lysine which seems to be for feline herpes which isn't the issue today. I did find conflicting suggestions"never give your cat aspirin"/ "give your cat tiny amts of aspirin for arthritis pain relief" THAT'S a big dang help. I'll go w/no aspirin. I did find a rec. for 500 mg daily of glucosamine and chondroitin-they said to give w/food to prevent vomiting & diarrhea. Has anyone tried this?
Avatar f tn t work --- and I feel 10000000000 years old - and my muscles burn and ache and it hurts to lay there and it hurts to shift positions and everything throbs and hot fire shoots up and down my tendons --- and OMG - I can't even begin to describe it ---- so --- if it works for me --- it might be worth trying once NSAIDS don't seem to do the trick. Also - be careful - do some research on NSAIDS... OK?
975514 tn?1324997938 I stopped the NSAID for a short time and my body (especially my shoulder and my lower back) swelled up so bad. When I began taking the NSAID again my condition improved. I don't get pain relief per se from NSAIDs, but without them, I would have intense swelling. I have been tested for RA and am negative, at least one year ago I was. I don't really have a lot of trouble sleeping unless my shoulder or back is swollen. I frequently have to ice my shoulder to fall asleep.
Avatar f tn Excellent advice, Tuck. It took me a long time to realize this, and years of my husband trying to drill this little bit of advice into my head, but too many people elevate their doctor to "god" status and think that their word is the final one. That's completely wrong, and it's also the reason that so many people are living in pain today despite regular visits to their doctors.
Avatar n tn You have just explained to me what the cause of my hives may be,I had Dental work done in May I was given Advil (600mg strentgh) after root canal and a tooth removal I broke out in Hives and it has not gone away, I took the Advil and had quite a lot of it, also given Penicillin , so possibly finally I have found what could have caused it, I am not taking these now so why does it not go away, I have had no painkillers or Penicillin since that time.
Avatar m tn 5 pound schnauzer and has been limping a bit after exercise. I have started giving her 500 mg of glucosamine a day and wanted to know if this is the right dosage?
