Common Questions and Answers about Glucosamine and methotrexate

glucosamine

Avatar f tn Like clockwork, I am sick for one to two days after I take my methotrexate and Humira. Every other week, I get severe nausea and upset stomach. I usually have to take something for nausea but that then will be make me extremely sleepy. The nausea starts about 12 hours or so after the shot. Is this normal? Does anyone else experience this? I have been on each of these meds for 4 years now.
1093971 tn?1257833640 What form is the glucosamine in? What is the total daily dose? Are there any other ingredients? What type is the glucosamine? How pure are the ingredients? If you’re considering taking glucosamine with chondroitin you have another ballgame. Since you didn’t ask about the latter I’ll stick to glucosamine by itself. If you search the Internet you’ll see inconclusive evidence of glucosamine having negative effects on blood sugar.

Other treatment is by topical treatment like coal tar, dithranol (anthralin), corticosteroids and PUVA(Psoralen and ultraviolet A phototherapy). I sincerely suggest you to discuss these treatment options with a dermatologist. Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional doubts.Kind regards.

Avatar m tn To cut a long story short, I saw my gastro 2 weeks ago and he has discontinued my methotrexate injections after an allergic reaction 2 weeks ago, so now my only immuno-suppressant is Remicade, which I am having as a day patient in Derriford Hospital , Plymouth, every 8 weeks. After some 40 yrs of Crohn's I feel very fortunate to be alive, and have other drugs to keep my disease in remission, other than steroids.
Avatar f tn If you wish to try it make sure you are not allergic to shell fish (glucosamine) or MSM (from pine tree bark) or Arnica ( arnica montana flower). You can buy MSM and arnica lotions separately and there is a glucosamine product that is made from corn but it is expensive. I am also taking vitamins which seems to be helping too.

Avatar m tn Glucosamine is sometimes very effective for arthritis, especially in older dogs or after injury etc. But at 5 years old, and especially as no arthritis was found, it may not be that Glucosamine will help. I don't know. Has he been checked for Cruciate ligament tear? If this IS cruciate ligament, surgery -as far as I know- is the best option. Muscle atrophy is often caused by inability to use the leg properly often because of injury or pain etc.

This started a couple of days ago. The weather got really cold fast and I just started him back on glucosamine. Does this sound like the arthrits acting up or do I need to worry? How much glucosamine can I give him? I hate when my dog is in pain, I have had him since I was in kindergarden.
1548207 tn?1303454180 The prednisone step doown depends on how long u have been on it typically the longer your on it the slower the step down as well as strenght so a doc is nest to ask but it could be fine since it was such a short time. As for methotrexate I found 2 articles on it and GM and it sounded promising and my breast doctor agreed and sent me to a rheumatologist to monitor the drugs and my docs communicate about my progress and work together.
Avatar n tn I went to human vitamin store and got her some glucosamine supplements. I got the liquid flavored glucosamine and the glucosamine soft flavored chew. I know some cannot swallow pills. My dog eats the chews if I slightly warm them. She will not touch the liquid. I would rather put a pill in some meat or something. It is much easier for her to take. I put her back on a food with glucosamine and she isnt having any problems. I learned my lesson about changing foods.

Avatar m tn s fish oil with enhanced DHA and EPA (15 grams daily), megadose vitamin E, and megadose glucosamine+chondroitin+MSM daily for anti inflammatory effects for my joint and tendon problems. I am looking to treat trauma of the brachial tendon to treat pain during bicep workouts by using a glucosamine cream. Avatar m tn My primary care physician and rheumatologist advised me to stop the methotrexate immediately. Methotrexate injures the liver, and that is why it is dosed once a week instead of daily. This gives your liver time to heal in between doses. Methotrexate was very effective for my RA symptoms and I hated to give it up, but I wasn't willing to destroy my liver in order to get relief from joint pain.
