Avatar f tn Hi, I recently went on glipizide after a very bad reaction to victoza. I was losing weight, but now the glipizide is keeping me at the same weight. Has anyone had the experience that is the same? and is there a lower does that anyone has still been able to lose weight with? and yes I'm on a low carb diet and excercise plan. I'm doing better with this than I did before and I lost 33 pounds. It's the glipizide.
Avatar f tn My Primary Care Physcian wants to increase my dosage to 100 mg per day. (double dosage). I also have Sinus Tachycardia which is under control with medications. My concern is that doubling my medication could lower the heart rate too much and cause serious problems. I was told it would have to be doubled since the tablets are 50 mg each. Is there any other solution or medication that comes in a lower dosage for this problem?
Avatar m tn I have taken 50 mgs of toprol XL for 12-13 years. It is a very safe and a good medication in my opinion. The XL means that it has an Extended Life .. in other words one pill is supposed work for at least 24 hours i think... but anyway... I dont know why the doc would say just use it when your rate is fast.. if you took one a day ....your heart rate should stay pretty regular Id think.. but Im not a doctor... I dont really know about taking it occassionally... doesnt make alot of sense to me..
Avatar n tn My psych dr just prescribed wellbutrin xl twice a day for me bacause I felt like it wore off really bad around 4 int he afternoon. So I take it at 7 am and then at 3 pm to ward of that awful LOW feeling later. 150 mg each time. Total 300 mg for the 24 hrs. Hope this works.
647391 tn?1275016633 "Do you take Glipizide once a day? " Yes, usually around 5-6am. I eat breakfast 30-45 minutes later. "If so, what is your blood sugars at the end of day." <120 mg/dl "I think the glipizide helps, but doesn't last the day." Don't rely on medications to do all the work for you. There there to 'help' you. Do you exercise and break sweat for 60 minutes daily? Are you at normal body weight? Are you eating a proper diabetic diet?
Avatar f tn you’ll want to try keeping tight blood sugar control if at all possible. To offer counterpoint to FlGuy’s experience, I had to increase my Lantus insulin dosage to 110 units toward the end of treatment; insulin wasn’t working very well. I was already maxed out on Glipizide, Metformin, and Actos as well. Post treatment, I continue to use the oral drugs, but no longer require *any* insulin… pretty cool stuff.
Avatar n tn I also take 500mg metformin after a meal(breakfast and dinner) and was advised to take 5mg glipizide before meals (breakfast and lunch) but sometimes I measure my bs before and notice it's sometimes 70-90 . A little about me: I don't eat at regular intervals, I don't snack , I have 3 meals a day . Wake up at 530 go to work, eat breakfast at 9 and then my lunch around 12 , dinner between 5-630. No snacks. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Avatar f tn My blood pressure runs around 91/60 and my pulse rate at 50 is this to low is this why I might feel sluggish and tired with no energy. I take medicine for tachycardia 50 mg p/day of toprol xl.
Avatar f tn My blood pressure which has been low (110/70 or less) since a ovarian tumor surgery 4/2007, is now back up to 180/90 or higher and at the time of the angina it was 198/103but as soon as Nitro worked, it was down to 135/75. I am on Toprol xl (for high heart rate of 120 or above), venazepril, diuretic, fenofibrate, simvastatin, aspirin, Lantus, glipizide. I have lost 30 lbs since Nov. Lipids are down to normal limits now and I have been walking for my back and sugar.
Avatar n tn I should cut my Toprol XL dosage by 50%. Do you concur? Would this reduced dosage have any negative impact whatsoever on the mean-time-to-failure of the replacement valve? Thank you very much. CCF is simply the BEST!
4117735 tn?1349962369 Is it OK to double, or tipple, your medication? I take Glipizide 10 mg. The reason asked is that I have been monitoring my glucose and it has been between 200 - 300, and I would like to lower my readings.
Avatar f tn Dear Di: I have taken toprol xl for about 12 years and have not had a problem with it.. The XL stands for extended life.. it is not all released at once in your system..So I would say the reason you cant take it just when you have a problem is that your body does not get the full effect immediately.. You have to take it and build it up as I understand it.. dunno not a dr...but thats the way Ive always understood it.. basically its a very safe medication to take... hope this helps.. .
Avatar f tn To make a long story short, I'm 63 yr. female with 2 previous MI 1996, 2002, with a full metal jacket in RCA, 3 stents in "96 and 2 more in'02. I'm also diabetic, on Lantus and Glipizide. My other meds include Toprol XL, benazepril, Furosimide, aspirin 325mg, Fenofibrate, and Simvastatin. I also take a multivit. and Omega3/6 daily. My problem is that although I have lost 30 lbs, brought my chol.
926651 tn?1244140366 3. The only difference I can identify in my routine is that my cardiologist started me on Toprol XL 25mg daily. Any ideas why this spike could have occured?
Avatar f tn Yes, please go back to the hospital. This level is terribly high. It would seem that he needs to be on insulin already if he can't control his sugars on oral meds. If you have to wait to see a doctor, you need to cut out the carbs until he can be seen. Lower carb diet actually works well to help control blood sugars. Educate yourself and your husband. It is a steep learning curve, but it can be done.
Avatar m tn I was recently diagnosed with congestive heart failure after a brief stay in the hospital (admitted from the ER with chest pains). I was given several tests, including an echocardiogram and a nuclear stress test.
Avatar f tn Since they are in the same family of drugs, you really shouldn't have any side effects. I went off propanol onto Toprol XL, both beta blockers with no issues at all. The problem may be in the dosage or even the fact it's a generic. I find the generic not to be as effective as the brand but perhaps that's just me. I suggest you call the doctor or pharmacist. You are on a very low dose. I take 50mg of Toprol XL twice daily and that does not totally keep the SVT under control.
Avatar m tn We had a discussion about reducing the dosage for various reasons. I have been on that dosage for a couple of years. I have been on Toprol for about 10 years total. Anyway once we discussed the new dosage goal based on the readouts from my tests he decided that it would be ok to go down from 300 mg to 200 mg......but he had me drop to that dosage in just one day. I was vey concerned because i had called my nurse and needed a new prescription.....
Avatar n tn My doctor just prescribed for me Glipizide along with my Glucophage because my sugars have been high for quite a while now. He warned me of the dangers and symptoms of low blood sugar. My question is, and i know its kind of silly, but what about when i'm sleeping? I know i can drink some juice before bed at 10pm, but then thats 10 hours before i eat again. I can drink juice again when i wake up at 7, but thats still 9 or 10 hours before breakfast. Thanks for any help.
