647391 tn?1275016633 I routinely have blood sugars in the 150 range my A!C has been 7.7 and 8.2. I was suppose to have some foot surgery, but it was cancel because of the A1c. It is the 1st time I was told I couldn't have surgery because of the diabetes. My regular doctor signed off on me having surgery. The foot surgeon wouldn't do it. I just didn't think my blood sugar level was of any concern.
Avatar n tn I have recently been prescribed Metformin for type 2 diabetes and have gone from 500 mg to 1,500 mg per day. A1C and glucose is worsening despite higher dose and strict diet, exercise. Does my body have an issue with the drug? I was considering Berberine as a natural supplement instead of Metformin, thoughts?

Avatar f tn We do know ALL carbohydrates raise BG (rice, pasta, potato, wheat, most fruit and sugar will raise BG) 2) exercise.. exercise uses the glucose in the blood and thereby lowers BG. I also tones up muscles, a toned up muscle uses more glucose at rest than a flabby one. so a toned muscle lowers BG. 3)medication Insulin is the medication of choice. Your diabetic that means your body is not controlling your BG as it should, so You have to. Your body uses insulin to control its BG.
Avatar n tn I was on metformin and had no issures, than she switched mr to glipizide 5 mg for a week 1 daily and than after 1 week raise it to 2 daily, so that may be problem in it self.
Avatar n tn _i am worried about all the conditions i am developing i was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 3 years ago, my levels of glucose are always up & down i also take some (anti depressants) (trozadone & prozac) along with my glyburide & glipizide) i just had a blood test done and i was diagnosed with Low T @ 200 is this the reason why my penis gets soft while am doing sex w/o ejaculating or my sudden change on 1 minute sex activity .?
Avatar f tn My husband has type II diabetes and the last few days he has been sweating very bad, his pillow is soaked when he wakes up in the morning. We have started taking his blood sugar levels when this happens and it's always over 250. Can anyone tell me what is going on and how do we reduce the blood sugar count.
Avatar n tn m unsure on the dosage equivalency of Glipizide vs Glyburide. Both are in the same class of diabetes medications but Glipizide is short/rapid acting while Glyburide is slow/long acting. If your husbands fasting blood sugar levels are elevating it may be the reason for the change.
Avatar n tn could it be his glucose level was already low secondary to a developing diabetes type I or can that medicine act that quickly. I think we may have stumbled on to something accidently. I checked his nonfasting glucose level just now and it was 121. Any ideas?
Avatar f tn Hi, I’m a type 2 diabetic. It treated for a few years; you’ll want to try keeping tight blood sugar control if at all possible. To offer counterpoint to FlGuy’s experience, I had to increase my Lantus insulin dosage to 110 units toward the end of treatment; insulin wasn’t working very well. I was already maxed out on Glipizide, Metformin, and Actos as well. Post treatment, I continue to use the oral drugs, but no longer require *any* insulin… pretty cool stuff.
Tbd I am a type 2 diabetic as well and Metformin upsets my stomach as well along with my cholesterol medication that I take in the evening.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes a year prior to HCV. I've used metformin, glipizide and actos (pioglitizone) for eight years now for DM2 management; including during both HCV treatments. I was eventually successful with interferon therapy, for what it's worth. I can't comment on the victoza; I have no personal experience with it. Reducing insulin resistance might be critical to succesful inteferon-based therapy as well.
Avatar n tn I am at present taking metformin 2 tablets a day & 2 1/2 Gliclazide the metformin doesnt agree with me so would rather not increase these I 'm asking please if is it possable that if i take the drug sitagliptin it would mean i could reduce the gliclazide and stop the mrtformin my Diabetes is well controlled on the whole but my nurse as requested i increase the glicazide
Avatar f tn I am a type 2 diabetic and I concerned about fasting (religious) and taking glipizide. I have been on metformin for over 14 years and have had to recently add glucotrol to my regimen. I do not have any low blood sugar symptoms at all and I am scared of the time I have to restrain from eating. Is any one else ever dealt with this?
Avatar m tn Last September I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I started taking Glipizide 5mg in the am along with meds for blood pressure. I also made major life style changes. I exercise an hour a day five days a week now. I eat extremely heathy. I lost 30 lbs. I'm sleeping again. I changed jobs. I'm still very overweight, but all my numbers are now in the normal range or close to it.
2053416 tn?1330411192 My sugars are in the 200 + - range. Is there another generation 1 or 2 diabetes medicine that I can take with the glipizide that will work as good as the actos did and not cost so much? I would like to get off the glumetza. I am really thinking about asking the doctor to put me back on insulin (novolin R). Thank you for your input.
Avatar f tn My husband has adult type 2 diabetes. I took him to the hospital on friday night with an outer and inner ear infection. While there his blood sugar was in the 400s. It was brought down befor we left. I was told to keep a close eye on his levels and to follow up with his primary doctor. The soonest they can see him is the 8th. He just checked and his blood sugar is 452. He took his meds. (metformin and glipizide) What can we do? Should we go to the hospital?
Avatar n tn Some people are able to control Type 2 diabetes with losing and maintaining healthy weight, lowering carb intake and regular exercise. Some are not, and need medication. It is impossible to answer your question because every diabetic is different and it would depend on how high your numbers were to begin with and what you ate and did. Serious consequences (complications) from diabetes don't occur in 24 hours, they occur over time spent at high numbers.
647391 tn?1275016633 So, yes, there is hope but you must be willing to make lifestyle changes to get your health back on the right track. For starters, you need to educate yourself on type 2 diabetes control and management. Understand what foods to eat and what foods to avoid, the basic lifestyle changes one must make to prevent diabetes from progressing. Start at this web site http://www.diabetes.org/ Read it carefully and thoroughly. Also, take the time to read other threads on this forum for useful tips.
Avatar f tn In addition he was also given medication for Diabetes Type II, metformin 850 mg, glipizide 5mg, lisinopril 5 mg, simvastatin 20mg, Asprin 81 mg, Ranitidine 150 mg. Additionally he was also prescribed Naproxen 500mg and Alumina Magnesia 360 ml. I think this is too much medication. Any suggestions? The pain meds are for arthritic hip and knee and rotator cuff surgery.
Avatar n tn I'm a novice when it comes to diabetes so I could use some help. I'm on 2.5mg of Glipizide and have been for about four years. My doctor discourages blood glucose testings -- says that's only necessary if I were on insulin. However, I will occasionally check my blood sugar -- maybe once or twice a month or if I'm not feeling well. I checked it on Sunday and found it was running somewhat high.
Avatar f tn can the medication Glipizide for diabetes interfere with the orasure test results? can anyone seroconvert after 14 weeks?
Avatar n tn I take Metformin 500mg twice daily. When I was first dx'd with type 2, my A1C was like 12 and my levels were running around 400! That was 2 years ago. I've tried to cut way back on my carbs, but I still cheat every now and again. My levels started slowly coming down on the meds. Now it usually runs anywhere from 90-110. I have been having a lot of gallbladder issues, so I take Milk Thistle, Dandelion and some other natural supplements.
Avatar n tn I know I am insulin dependent because I cannot take my pump off except for the rare few minutes or so without my sugar sky rocketing. Now would u still call this Type 2 Diabetes or Type 1? Hearing the words Juvenile Diabetes associated with Type 1 throws me off obviously because I was not diagnosed as a juvenile. But also the words Insulin Dependent are associated with the Type 1. So I DO fit into that category.
